Prologue

My name is Stella Basile im twenty one. I once lived a normal life. A normal life for a witch that is. My family were part of a large coven in Maine. I loved it there, we all did. When I was sixteen, everything changed. My family calls it the event. I know cheesy right? It was definitley a life-changing event. One that dispersed everyone and our coven was no more. I mostly do not remember what happened and no one will talk about it.

My father is the leader of our old coven and our new one. He is said to be one of the most powerful warlocks in existence. He started our coven over one hundred years ago, when he and my mother moved from Romania. I am the youngest of seven. My oldest brother Michael is in his eighties he looks super young though. 

Anyways we moved to the suburbs of Chicago where my parents started a new coven. Everything was completely normal in my life the summer after college graduation. I graduated early by the way. I had a job and was applying to grad school. Everything seemed to be so normal, until...

Chapter 1
Stella POVI wake up and my heart is beating out of my chest. Something does not feel right. I look at my phone, 3:00 am. Nope really not, right. Something is drawing me outside. I walk out of my apartment door, down the stairs, and out the front door. I can't stop myself. I keep walking then running down the sidewalk. Something is calling to me.Then I see him, a boy probably sixteen or seventeen dead in the alley. He is badly beaten with blood all over his face. The it happened. I just could not stop myself. Stella's POVWhen we arrive to my apartment, I decide to grab some pats. I let Thomas clan up some. He looks over at me with his dark eyes. "I have never seen a witch be able to do that," he says. "Do what?" I ask scrunching my face in confusion. "Normally witches have to use spells to make their magic work, but you didn't," he answers. I sigh, "Yeah i am different than most witches. Stella's POVThe girl goes to walk toward Thomas. A hand shoots out to stop her. It is another teenage boy with brownish red hair and muddy brown eyes. An ugly sneer that is probably permanently plastered to his face. "You aren't gong anywhere Hannah," he tells her. A look of pure evil in his eyes. "You are my girlfriend," he adds. Thomas growls "Mine" he hisses. "Jarred he is my mate," she yells with a look of pure fear on her face. "I don't care if he's the king of the fucking world, you are mine," Jarred shouts at her.Thomas growls about to lunge but Kai throws his hand out to stop him. We leave the apartment and walk to my favorite 24-hour diner. "Pats has the best pancakes," I tell the boys as we sit in my favorite booth. Joe our waiter walks up. "Who do we have here?" she asks cheerfully. "Hey Joe this is my cousin Sean and his friends. They are visiting for a couple of days," I say with a smile. Sean's face twists into a sneer. "Oh great sounds like a blast," she says with a sile. "Do you know what you want?" "The usual," I tell her. The usual is a stack of classic pancakes with whipped cream, berries and syrup. I also get a large strawberry milkshake to go along with it. The boys order a ton of food. Instantly regretting offering to pay. Devin's POV "Where the hell have you been?" I yell as my brother gets out of the car. "Devin I can explan," he replies. I stop him. I guess I can give you a break," I say. Even though I am mad at Thomas finding your mate is near impossible so I understand why he couldn't leave. Stella's POV I got home around 6 from work. I was supposed to go for drinks with Tiffany tonight. Tiff had become one fo my best friends since moving to the city. Stella's POV I wake up with the sun shinning through the curtians. Oh, it's 10am. I hop out of bed and head to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. I put my hair into high pony becaukse I know it's going to be hot out there, 95 degrees according to my phone. Shorts and a tank top it will be. My stomach starts to tell me I need food and I also need to let Tiffany know that I haven't been stuffed in someone's trunk. I head downstairs and spot Thomas on the couch watching TV. "Damn! You scared me." I said. "Sorry my brother gave me a key." He replies with a cheesy grin. "I could have killed you; you know?" I narrow my eyes at him. "Yeah that's true I have seen you fight," he laughs. "Food?" I ask. "Duh I'm alway hungry." He smiles as he flips through the channels. I cook us up some toast with eggs and bacon. As we sit down to eat, I ask Thomas. "So why did you tell your brother about me?" His eyes widen trying to think of what to say.

Stella's POV After my lunch with the boys I have Thomas take me to get some wine. We talk about Hannah and how she has enrolled in school. She has a lot of catching up to do. By the time we pull up to the cottage it's about 3:30. I head to the couch and pull out my laptop thinking I might as well get my grad school applications out of the way. I work on the applications for a few hours and decide to give it a rest my stomach starts to rumble again. I head to the fridge to see what I can whip up.
