2: When he orders you, you listen

Damian's pov

"What kind of king does not have a mate?!" My mother banged my desk, forcing me to look up at her and away from my table.

I slid my hand through my hair, "mum, I'm busy."

I watched as she paced around, two of her personal guards waiting by my door. She was in a long overflowing robe that swept the floor as she walked.

"Damian, they're talking... They're all talking." She drew her eyebrows together in, "you turned thirty, still no mate."

Above all things, I tried to keep my calm. "It does not matter, mum."

"Damian, they're all plotting to overthrow you, and give it to that..." She scrunched her face in disgust, "that brother of yours." Throwing her hands over her head, she cried, "this is a disaster, you know how his mother is, first thing she'll do is throw us out of the pack house once her filthy son becomes king."

"No one can overthrow the alpha king." I tried to retain my calmness.

"Oh I hear them, all the whispers," she leaned in to say in a low voice, "I hear, his mate is carrying their first pup, believe me, if it is what I think it is, the moment that child is out, your days are over."

"You act like you don't know what happened to libianca." I reminded her.

"Ten years is enough time to grief Damian, get over that girl. If your wolf can't find a mate, mark one of the goddamn girls, fuck her till she gives you a heir."

"Mind your language woman," I resumed focusing on the paper work load before me.

"Fuck language, I suffered so much when I was your father's queen when he was alive, I'm not about to lose my position or title and be back to that rags life, you have a week Damian, a week before I choose a maiden for you," she turned to leave, mumbling as she did, "hundreds of them throwing their hands at him and he wont pick one."

She stopped at the entrance, "Damian I mean it, one week, and that's it, I'll strip myself in the center of the packhouse and cry till I bleed."

That did it for me.

I got to my feet and swiped everything on my desk to the floor.

"Then fucking do it now."

She flinched in fear and her guards hurried to stand beside her as I approached her. "You act like it's my fault the goddess didn't find me a new mate. You know how guilty I feel with libianca, and you know how she died, how can you..."

I stopped, holding my fists beside me when I saw the terrified look on her face. Everyone else was scared of me, I didn't want to add my mother to that list.

"Just leave mum," I raised one brow, "now."

She glared at me, her lips quivering and I knew she had a lot to say but she balled her fists and turned to leave. Her guards bowed their heads and escorted her.

Once she was gone, I stared at all the glass mini sculpture of wolves I'd gotten as gifts from the pack. I threw my fist at them, shattering it all, not caring for my bleeding knuckles.

I left my office and my guards waiting by the door shared glances before hurrying to keep up with me as I stormed off to my half brother's room.

Two of the guards waiting by his door part ways as I bursted in.

Arthur was laying in bed naked, one maiden kissing him agressively, another sucking his cock.

"With the door open?" I frowned, "you have no fucking respect for your mate."

"Brother," Arthur chuckled, "you look so worked up, care to join us?"

"I don't have time for your nonsense, I won't warn you twice, I don't know what you or your mother think you are, but whatever you're telling my mother, I need you to stop."

Arthur smirked, holding one hand up, signalling the girls to stop. One of them handed him his robe which he put on as he walked up to me.

Arthur and I shared our father's features, and could almost be mistaken for twins except he had his mother's red hair while mine was jet black. Like me, he was six feet four, his skin was tanned too, and he had well defined muscles.

He put one hand on my shoulder, "you shouldn't let them get to you, unless, you have something to fear."

I gripped him by his neck, holding him in a chokehold, "this is only a warning Arthur, you know what I'm capable of."

Arthur raised his hands in defeat, he could not deny my alpha aura even if he wanted to. I was a hundred times stronger and would wipe him out in a minute.

I let go and turned to leave.

"You might be the king now, but not for long, nothing is permanent brother, especially the strength of a mateless king."

My wolf, Bay, was ready to take over but if I let him, Arthur would be dead in seconds.

I looked over my shoulder at him to see a smirk on his face.

I walked out of his room, full of rage. Halfway through the hall, I bumped into my gamma, running at full speed towards me, accompanied by her ladies.

“Alpha!” She panicked, scanning my body and then looking at the door behind me.

I ignored her and continued walking.

“You didn’t kill him, did you? I came running as soon as I heard you were going to see your brother.”

“Word travels fast.”

“Where are you going now?” She was walking fast trying to keep up.

“To clear my mind.”

She snapped her finger at her women, “quick get the kings guards and the beta so we can…”

“I do not need an entourage Lucy.” I yelled at her.

She stopped in front of me and held my hand, “Damian…” she sighed, “you’ll have all the privacy to yourself, it will be like we are not there, I promise. “

I looked at her then at her grip and slowly pulled out of it.

She motioned her women to do just as told.

Lucy and I had grown up together and we had our history of friendship. So I respected her.

In no time, I was out of the pack house, ignoring the scampering on my way out, the silence and fear from my subjects.

**

I could hear them whispering behind me before the beta, Locks, approached a few minutes into our stroll.

“You can all turn around and leave, you came here on your own.” I reminded them.

Locks leaned in to whisper, “it’s getting too cold don’t you think alpha?”

I was going to raise my voice at him when I felt it out of nowhere. A pull towards the woods. I stared in the direction with squinted eyes. The chills ran down my spine and I could tell it was not from the cold.

“Alpha!” I held Lucy’s panic call as I raced through the woods, ignoring all the branches in the way. My entourage sped after me trying to catch up.

I stopped in front of the figure and my heart sunk. I knew it but I wanted to deny it. ‘Mate…’ Bay growled, almost taking over. ‘We found her…’

I snapped back to reality hearing the voices of my beta and gamma.

“What is that?!” Lucy put her hands over her mouth, frowning in disgust.

Locks poked a stick on her sides. “Its a rogue.” He confirmed what I knew.

“Get up.” I frowned, knowing she was alive.

She struggled to her feet and I realized she was partly naked. She mumbled something but I couldn’t make it out as she fell forward onto my chest, startling my guards and entourage. They immediately leaned forward to attack but I halted them with one hand up. “Stay away…”

They stopped and stared in confusion.

Securing her against my chest with one arm wrapped around her, I took my jacket off and put it around her.

‘What are you doing?!’ Lucy suddenly opened the mind link.

“To the pack house.” I ordered, ignoring her. I lifted my mate in my arms bridal style, leading the way back, unable to focus on anything other than her.
