"Awww, I'm so happy for you" my best friend of nine years replied on the other side of the phone, sounding equally happy for me "so when are you expected there?" She asked."Well, I haven't received the date yet, i just sent in my acceptance letter" I replied with the same enthusiasm."This calls for a celebration, and I don't want to hear that crap about not wanting to go out" if it isn't clear yet, i just got accepted to study my masters in NYU, and happy is an understatement for what I feel right now."Fine, only because I don't know when I'll be leaving and want to make the most of the little time I have left with you guys" I replied, sounding upset. But I was low key happy that I got to spend time with my girls before I go."Hah! Just like that? Wow, that was quite easy, i honestly thought I'll have to come and drag you out of that house myself" she said sounding surprised. Well I was surprised too, I'm not really an outdoorsy person."Abeg(please), just text me the time and address" I told her, rolling my eyes. We said our goodbyes and hung up.I immediately called my parents to deliver the good news. My dad sounded so proud of me and I couldn't trade the feeling I got at that moment for anything. They promised to relay the news to my siblings and I in turn promised to go and spend some time with them soon.I got a text, which was from Jane, with an address and she said to meet by 7:00 pm and was quite surprised when I saw that it was 4pm already. But still went ahead to read a novel on w*****d anyway.I was so lost in a world of romance and thriller that I missed the sound of my door opening."Ahah, i knew it" said my best friend while clapping her hands at me. I sometimes regret giving her a key to my house.I jolted up immediately and almost fell off the couch, when I stood. I looked at her and saw that she was dressed immaculately in a beautiful dress that clung to her body like a second skin and showed off her curvy figure. Her make up was done to perfection, as usual."Uhm, Jane? What is it?" I asked getting scared. While she continued glaring at me."What's the time?" She asked.A quick glance at the clock hanging on the wall showed that it was 6:45pm, and my eyes widened in realization."Mhm" she lifted her brows"I'm sorry, i didn't forget, i swear. It won't take me up to 15minutes to get dressed, i promise" I said quickly, which caused her to narrow her eyes at me.I quickly went to pull out a top to pair with a trouser, but she wasn't having that either. She drew me aside and rummaged through my closet and came out with a sleeveless, short gown which I'll usually pair with a leggings, when she didn't go back to get a leggings I widened my eyes and started to shake my head, but changed my mind when I saw the look on her face. I took it and was a bit relieved when she pulled out a jean jacket.I put on the dress quietly and put on my make up which didn't take me up to 10 minutes, probably because I ditched the contour. I pulled half of my twist into a bun, and left two strands at the front to give me a cute look. She nodded her head at me, in approval and told me to hurry up, which I did and within a few minutes we were out and on our way, thank God she came with her car because I sure as hell didn't feel like driving. When we arrived at the club my other friends, Grace and Abigail who were already waiting for us, got up to congratulate me with hugs and tried to get me drunk for the rest of the night, which I didn't let happen, I don't like how I get when I'm drunk, it's not pretty, at All.~~~I spent the following day at home with my parents and siblings who were all so estatic to see me, and were acting like I moved out of the house ages ago, when realistically I just moved out barely two weeks ago. My parents are quite protective of us and didn't let me move out till I finished my NYSC (National Youth Service Corps). The house was filled with a festive aura, trust my mum to throw a party at the shortest notice. At the end of the day I slept over after severe pleading or 'torture' rather from my siblings. And even though they might be the craziest set of people, I love them and I, wouldn't have them any other way.The Email came in the next morning, while I was still with my parents, that I was leaving on the thirtieth of September, that's roughly two weeks, a week and three days to be specific.A week later had me at the airport feeling jittery at the fact that I'm going somewhere far without my parents, I've gotten a bit too dependent on them and will need to get used to not being able to see them whenever I want to.It was more annoying that I was leaving a few days before my birthday, but I'll manage. I guess.I was scared, but after a few encouraging words from my Parents, siblings and best friend I was set to go.My dad told me he'll be having a business transaction in New York and will ensure he drops by to see me before he leaves and even joked about sending a bodyguard with me -knowing my dad he's probably serious so I shook my head at him and told him I'll be fine, while My mums advice basically entailed "you're going there to study, so don't allow any man to deceive you and don't forget to always pray" I kept nodding my head along to whatever she said and cried when they all hugged me goodbye. But I wasn't too worried because I knew her prayers will keep me safe, they always have. I'll be fine.NOTE; NYSC IS A MANDATORY ONE YEAR SERVICE PROGRAM EVERY GRADUATE IN NIGERIA HAS TO UNDERGO, BEFORE BEING ELIGIBLE TO GET A JOB.thanks for reading. Please, vote/comment.Thoughts on this???Listen to dusk till dawn - zayn malik ft sia while reading the middle part of this chapter. "Uhm. I. I" I stammered trying to put my thoughts together enough to form a sentence. "What exactly are you talking about?" I asked instead. "Oh you mean I didn't need to know that you're the daughter of Adewale Smith, one of the richest men in Africa?" He asked the question I already knew he was going to ask. "How.. How'd you. Know?" I licked my lips nervously and avoided his eyes. "Well apparently one of the photographers who recognized you is refusing to sell his photos.. Because 'he'll make more money from It' if they get released" he caught my eye and clenched his jaw when I dropped my gaze to the floor. "Mind to tell me what he's talking about?" He asked moving into the room. "I'm sorry.. I just. I didn't think it was important. I just. Oh God." I lifted my head upwards and closed my eyes regretting omitting that little detail to him, its the main reason why I didn't even want my pi
"Turn the car around" Frank quickly told the driver in a rush. While my mind was in a turmoil, I still couldn't decipher what had happened. When we were at a safe distance from the restaurant he relaxed a little. "They must have followed the car when you came to pick me up." He was probably referring to his driver, while pulling out his phone from his pocket, dialing a number. All the while I was numb and quiet even after he finished speaking with a 'Hyacinth', - who I'm guessing has something to do with his publicity or something - and asked if I'm okay. I couldn't answer him. My mind was reeling with different thoughts such as, did they see my face? Do they know who I am? Will there be pictures? Oh God I hope not. I just said yes to him yesterday. I'm not ready for this."Hey, look at me" I finally refocused my attention on him when he shook me a little. "I'm fine" I blurted out. "I just. I. I" I was opening and closing my mouth without forming a proper sentence so I stuck with
"Thank you" I told the driver when he dropped me at the building I'm supposed to be having my meeting in. I looked up at the building in front of me and said a quick prayer to God. I went in and the bubbly receptionist directed me to the 5th floor where my interview will be held and I released a sigh of relief when I got into the elevator and saw that it was empty. Thank God its not a long ride. When I arrived at the 5th floor I saw a few people waiting around on lounge chairs, and I'm guessing they're also here for the interview. I gave my name to the lady behind the desk and she asked to sit and wait until my name is called to go in. When I heard my name I quickly went in and saw a brunette sitting down with his eyes down on papers. "So miss Cassandra," he said raising his head, and then he paused after that and stared at me from head to toe with obvious want in his eyes. I cleared my throat and shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other, regretting my choice of wearing a
I shifted nervously from one foot to the other as I waited for him pickup the phone. "I'm here" I told him immediately he picked the call. Holding my coat tight around my body. I tried not to look as nervous as I felt, but it was proving hard. "Yea. I can see you." I looked around when he said that but only saw a few cars lounging around, I didn't know which one will be his I'm guessing he'll be into sports cars though. I'm not sure. "Well I can't" I said exasperatedly still looking around the airport. He just chuckled and told me his driver was coming to get me since the place was crowded and he didn't want to risk being recognized and wasting time here. "Okay" I said calmly and not up to five seconds later I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and saw a white guy dressed in a navy blue suit. "That's my driver, come with him" I looked at the guy and he nodded his head at me as if he could hear my conversation. He gestured his hand for me to go. "Evening ma'am, if you'll
