Ariel glared at the duo standing before her in repulsion, she found it hard to believe she ever had anything to do with them. Blood trickled down her eyebrows to her cheeks like raindrops. Her hands were fastened tightly with chains. Her ears stung at intervals, amidst their mocking laughter, all she could hear were the harsh waves of the water, rocking the ship gently.

There was no escape from this, they were thirsty for blood. She knew she was going to die. In her next life, she vowed she was going to be smart.

“I asked you to keep yourself hidden but you don't listen. That's why this is happening to you.” Bianca smirked in disdain, expecting a response from Ariel who could barely see. Her eyes were covered in blood. Her mouth had been inflicted with painful blisters. The thugs on black suits swung their batons on intervals, ready to take action if she dared to try anything out of the ordinary.

Ariel could feel tears forcing it's way out of her throat. Bianca's betrayal cut too deep. Bianca was her best friend, and she was also "Athena" the best opera singer in the country. At least that's what everyone thought. But that was not the case. Bianca— did not have a good voice. She and Ariel had met themselves back in highschool. Ariel was a naive orphan from a foster care home, and she could sing so well. But she was too shy to sing in front of crowds. Bianca on the other hand admired the glam, luxury and splendor that came with being popular, so she teamed up with Ariel. Ariel would sing behind the scene while she'd lip sync and get the credit. Bianca promised her royalties, but compared to the volume of fortune being the famous “Athena” would bring, she only offered Ariel peanuts. Ariel was barred from singing in clubs, parties or any public gatherings. But she didn't mind, she was doing it for her best friend. Bianca had always been there for her since they were teenagers, and she'd do anything to make her happy .

But now things had gone South.

They were on the verge of getting caught. One of them had to sacrifice themselves to wiggle them out of a third wave scandal. But it definitely wasn't Bianca. She'd have to eliminate Ariel if she wished to save herself. After all, she had gotten all she needed from her.

Damien stepped forward and snaked his right arm fondly around Bianca's waist, looking at the messy Ariel in disgust. Ariel was drained, her heart hurt like someone pierced a thousand knives through it. She thought he loved her, she had recorded three hundred love songs for him in the last five years, including covers of songs by famous opera singers. Songs even Bianca was yet to set her eyes on. Damien gave them all to Bianca, Ariel was shattered to discover they were dating all along. They both used her. Bianca was masquerading as a star, and Damien got to keep thirty percent of her royalties for life — as a reward for helping Bianca steal her songs. While she Ariel had remained a measly delivery girl all these years.

“Ariel…Ariel…Ariel.” Damien exclaimed in fake empathy. He let out a heavy sigh. “Poor creature, you're so naive. It's a pity you have to go this way, you saw something you should have never seen.”

Ariel hung her head in helplessness, this was how she was going to die. In the hands of her best friend and her boyfriend. The two people she had loved the most, the only family she had. If only she didn't witness the murder, maybe she'd have lived. Her tears were mixed with blood, she could barely keep her eyes open or think straight for a straight minute.

“How could you do this to me? What did I ever do wrong?.” She cried.

The pain she felt was indescribable, it felt like she was walking on several hot knives. Exactly how the little mermaid felt whenever she took a step with her new legs.

She cried.

Her clothes were torn, her skin was covered in bruises, her hair was damp with blood. Her lips were filled with bruises and blisters.

Sitting on the peak of a skyscraper that overlooked the sea, Axel watched the scene playing out before him in amusement. It was entertaining, a kind of entertainment that excites him. Humans were very fickle creatures, the most shallow people he had ever come across. All they did was make foolish decisions, and kill each other over trifle material possessions. He had no regard or respect for them. Whenever a bad decision was made, all he did was obediently seal their fate with no questions or even a slightest attempt to change their minds. Hundred generations had already come and gone, yet nothing seemed to change among the human race.

Taking his mind off the thugs hitting a girl with a bat, he savoured the fresh air that smelt like warmth. The skies were crisp and clear, it's blue and white colors intertwining together. He sighed, at least the sky god wasn't slacking off.

“Throw her overboard.” Bianca commanded the men who acknowledged her command in obedience, and rushed towards Ariel to do her bidding. Hoisting her up, they threw her overboard, and threw the block right after.

Axel watched the man and woman hug themselves and share a passionate kiss. Soon, they were laughing and smiling in relief like they had gotten rid of their biggest threat. He watched the man place his hand on her bum as they laughed and rejoiced. They were all over each other like newly wed love birds. After a while, their boat was out of sight. Axel looked at the spot the girl had fallen, she was probably at the depth of the sea by now, or she had become shark food. It never crossed his mind to save her, she was fated to die, and her fate had been sealed. He held up a black journal that flipped open on it’s own. This peculiar journal had no pages. Whispering gold lights filtered out of the black book, as tiny threads intertwined themselves. He looked at the fate thread of the girl in the water, once it was tied she'd be gone. His job here would be done, he had another fate to seal. But just then, something strange happened.

Joan was quiet all through the ride, she had been on the run when Dean's car pulled over. The ride to god knows where, was quiet. She sniffed and sobbed, wiping her tears with the back of her hands. “Why were you there?” “Do you mind telling me what's going on?” He responded, sipping from the whiskey bottle on the table.“Its family business.”“Your pride is not important at this point.” Silent, her eyes darted around the minimalist decor in the house, searching for what to focus on “I guess your family would be happy to know where you are, don't you think?”“Are you usually this annoying?” She was forced to ask. “Maybe.” He shrugged. “I don't know what's up, but if you keep it to yourself, I don't think you're going to make it alive next time.” She stared quietly in suspicion. “You just happened to be there at the right time.“Yeah, I had a client around the area.” He replied, massaging his temple. Getting Joan to talk was not going to be as easy as he thought, she

Ariel's eyes darted around, scanning the restaurant in search of him. She hoped he'd show up. She had texted him the address last night. Seconds turned into minutes and minutes rolled into hours. She glanced at the door in expectation, hoping he'd walk in any moment, but there was no sign of him. She decided to be a bit more patient. The previous incident traumatized Khan; he was doing great, the killings had ceased, and the psycho was probably behind bars. Joan reached out after a week and told her she had gone on a vacation. Ariel was relieved. Sighing, she glanced at the oblique aesthetic clock on the wall. He was already an hour late. Disappointment began to creep in; he was not coming. The realization left a sinking feeling in her stomach; it was like her heart had been ripped in two. Tears stung her eyes, but she blinked them back with difficulty. Expecting Axel to like her back was hopeless; he didn't even have the decency to show up or decline her treat. That was h

“Our new model will be wearing the”Blair Wang” ruffle dress. She'd take on a minor role in our new series, to serve as an eye candy.” Rebecca, the glam team leader informed Kyle who was going through a jagged line chart on his tab. “Perfect.” “Our ratings for “Cheer up” soared by three more percent. They say it inspired more young girls to pick up cheerleading. . We can make another blockbuster like cheer up, with carefully selected actors. Our marketing strategy is to include ten top actors the people love on their screens in our new movie.” Relieved, Kyle smiled. He was enjoying the pitch, and he felt blessed to have Rebecca. Her brain works around the clock, brainstorming on ideas that'd make their ratings soar. Running Blue Rail entertainment had been his father's lifelong dream, he was happy it was working. Rebecca strolled to the limited edition dress on the hanger and ran her fingers on the ruffles on the flairs of the dress. “Where is Mis

Rain was sobbing behind the counter when Ariel barged in like she was running from a wild beast. “Where is he?.” She asked the distraught aunty Rain, fearing the worst had happened. “I can't find him, he is missing.” Rain cried in response, blowing her nose with a towel. “When did this happen?.”“This afternoon.""He went out to play with the other kids but he never came back. I'm panicking, what if something bad happens to him? He's just a baby.” She sobbed. Ariel's heart sank to her stomach. She desperately hoped he was still alive. This was all her fault, that psychopath had probably gotten his claws on Khan. Desperate, she ran out the door in search of Axel, he could not have gone far, he was still around, and he could help. She wondered why he had not saved Khan, it was piece of cake for him. But if Khan dies, it'd be too late. Nothing could bring him back. Ariel had a hunch the serial killer had kidnapped Khan. But Axel was the only one who'd know what

Ariel was walking out of the cozy cafe with her iced cappuccino, when an expensive Ford mustang screeched to a halt in front of her. Startled, she stopped and fixed her gaze on its doors in confusion to see who’d emerge from it. A polite gentleman dressed in a black smartly tailored suit steps down and opens the back door. “Miss, sir Jaques wants to see you, he asked me to pick you up.” He beckons on her to get in.“I'm busy.” She lied.“That's fine, he expects you to decline. But I'll lose my job if you don't come.” Ariel was stunned, was he seriously trying to blackmail her?“I need your help, miss, my boss means every word.” Ariel was silent. Whatever approach he applied was working. A part of her wished to meet Jaques. The mysterious young man that had piqued her curiosity in the board room.“Please.” The man pleaded desperately, hoping she'd comply.Ariel looked at her hoodie and jeans, she was underdressed. “I need to get changed.” “That has already been taken car

  • The god who hates me   Chapter Twenty Four

Bianca moved through the stench in the dark alley with her left hand placed over her nose. The old man's base smelt like death, she could hardly bear the stench. He was propped up against the wall when she saw him. He shoved a smoke against his lips and flicked the lighter on. He swipes a glance at her, and walks towards an abandoned container in the alley, scratching his festering wound as he walks. Unlike the foggy darkness outside, the interior was bright. But Lucius kept some places dark. There were different murder weapons on the table, knives, axes and an empty gun. Lucius had emptied the bullets, the gun was not an active participant in his job, shooting someone would draw attention. Bianca looked at him sternly. “What do you want?.” “I don't like when you look at me like that.” “Like what?.”“With disgust.” He puffed a gust of smoke and cocked the empty gun. “Because I am disgusted.”“You never look at your mother like that.” “She's nothing like you.” Sh
