Chapter 4 - Sam

last update Last Updated: 2021-07-30 02:16:57

The day was going fine but the development of the new game was going slower than anticipated. I had to sit in with many developers trying to explain why we were behind schedule. Keven was the lead developer on that game. He was also Marissa’s mate.

Keven was always a little distant, a little different from other wolves in our pack. But overall, Keven was a good guy, working hard on the software development team.

“Listen, we just have a little more bugs than anticipated,” he told me. “The new dev, he’s having problems but he’s learning. Just give us a little more time and we’ll get the game ready.” He assured me. “Fine Keven, I trust you.”

He gave me a smile and said, “Thanks, you won’t regret it.”

And then he left my office.

The day was coming to an end, when suddenly, I felt fear in my heart! Something was wrong with Sarah, our bond as mates was strong enough that I could feel it. I ran to her desk, to find her standing and screaming.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

She looked at me but couldn’t say a word. She just pointed her desk and then I saw it. There was a bloody package on her desk and a note saying, “You’re next.”

I had to fight my wolf who wanted to come out. But instead, I took Sarah in my arms to protect her and calm her up. At the feeling of her touch, my wolf instantly calmed itself too, knowing that my mate was in my arms, unarmed.

I could feel Sarah relax too.

Who could have sent this to her? Someone was threatening my mate and I didn’t like it. A growl came out of my chest and Sarah seemed to search as to where it was coming from.

“What is it?” I asked.

“I thought I heard a sound.”

“Probably just a noise in the conference room.” I said, “maybe from one of the games.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right.”

That was close! I wasn’t ready for her to find out about what I was yet.

I called Zach, one of my most trusted members of the pack, and one of the strongest too.

“What’s happening man?” Zach asked as he got here.

I let Sarah go pick up her stuff, keeping an eye on her but going just far enough so I could talk to Zach alone. I pointed the package and his eyes widened as he saw it.

“Find out who sent that to Sarah,” I told him. “But don’t kill him; I want him alive so I can kill him myself.”

Zach took a good smell of the package and the note.

But then he turned to me and said, “I’m sorry, the smell is so putrid, it completely erased the scent of whoever left this.”

That was not the answer I wanted to hear, but I was expecting this. “But anyway,” he continued, “I’ll take a picture of the note and see if I can find who wrote it.”

“Alright, do your best,” I answered as he took a picture of the note.

We didn’t touch the package or the note because, of course, we needed to call the cops. We wolves were by far superior to catch criminals because of our advanced sense of smell, and I had a feeling that the culprit was a wolf too. But we needed to show all employees (especially to the human who didn’t know about our species) that we were taking things seriously. Anyway, the more people searching for the culprit, the better it would be.

We went to the police station to fill in a report. I stayed with Sarah at all time, sitting on a chair nearby. By the time all the details were completed, it was nighttime.

With the threats Sarah received, there was no way I was going to let her go back home. I wasn’t comfortable letting her be all alone. So, when we came out of the police station, I asked her if she would stay at my apartment for the night.

She gave me a weird look and then I realized what she was thinking about. “No, no! I didn’t mean it that way!” I said as she relaxed a little.

“I mean, with those threats, I thought maybe you would like to stay at my place tonight, just so that you’re not alone.”

I added, “I’ll stay on my side of the bed. And we can have something to eat too, we were supposed to have a date anyway.”

She hesitated a little but then she agreed. I was relieved she agreed because I didn’t know what I would have done if she said no.

We went directly to my apartment. She had some spare clothes with her since she trains a few times a week, so we didn’t need to stop by her place.

I lived on the south shore of Montréal, near a forest. I was happy, knowing that my mate would be safe by my side at least for the night. And I intended to keep her safe for as long as I breathe.

We arrived shortly. I prepared spaghetti. It wasn’t the romantic dinner that I was hoping for, but considering everything that’s happened, it was good enough.

For lycanthrope, it was a tradition for the male to feed its mate her first meal, to show her that we will take care of her. I couldn’t explain all of that to her, but I wanted to do it. I took her fork and prepared a bite for her.

She looked at me with doubtful eyes as she said, “I can eat by myself you know.”

“Yeah but I really want to do this … please?” I said trying to get those cute puppy eyes.

She laughed, “Okay but only tonight, let’s not make a habit of this okay?”

I smiled my biggest smile and replied, “Okay!”

I then started to feed her, one bite at a time, until there was nothing more in the plate. She was having quite some fun too judging from her giggles.

It was already late since we spent so much time at the police department earlier. She decided to take a quick shower. I was waiting for her to get out, sitting on the couch.

I could hear the shower running. How I wish I could peek, but it wouldn’t be very gentleman of me, so I just stayed there, waiting for her. She came out a few minutes after, wearing a pair of short shorts and a t-shirt. Her hair was loosely tight in a bun with a few loose strands. She took my breath away.

“What?” She asked as I looked at her.

“Do you know how beautiful you are?”

She had a surprised look on her face.

“You’re kidding me, right?”

I looked her in the eyes for a few seconds.

“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.”

She put a hand over her mouth and I just waited for what I’ve said to sink-in. Then I grabbed her hand and pulled her up to the bed.

“Sam,” she whispered as we reached the bed, “We were supposed to sleep only remember?”

I had to bite my lip, but she was right. I did say we would just sleep, even though I wished it were otherwise.

“Yeah babe, you’re right I did say that.”

She giggled as I called her “babe.” The word slipped me, but she didn’t seem to mind one bit.

“But, if you are good, I’ll give you a goodnight kiss.” She added with a sexy devilish smile on her face.

“Hum… I guess I’d better be good then.” I answered with a wink.

Satisfied with my answer, she lay in bed on one side, waiting for me to join her. I laid by her side. She got closer and gave me a peck on my lips. I didn’t give her time to retreat as I grabbed the back of her head with my hand and kissed her back. She parted her lips as my tongue made way into her mouth.

The taste of her was just driving me crazy. This was it for me, no other woman would ever kiss me. I only wanted to taste her, and her only, for the rest of my life.

I only hoped that she felt the same. I would take whatever time it would take for her to think the same thing about me. She broke the kiss and looked at me with her beautiful hazel eyes.

“Good night Sam.”

“Good night babe.”

She turned her back and went to sleep. I waited for her breathing to slow, for her to fall asleep. Only then did I get closer and put my arm around her waist. As I did that, she got closer to me and her lips curved in a slight smile while sleeping.

The feeling of her body against mine made me feel whole, like I finally found what I was missing.

Our two bodies fitted together like they were made for each other. I knew now that I would never want to fall asleep other than with her in my arms. After a few minutes in this bliss, I finally fell asleep.

  • The prophecy   Epilogue

************ Sarah’s POV ************A lot had happened since that day. After the battle we went back to Sam’s parents’ house. We were injured but we were fine. They sent some members of the pack to clean up the mess and then seal the sepulcher, hoping no one would have the idea to go there again. With the respect gained from the fight, and the courage and strength that he showed, it was decided Sam would become the Alpha. His father stepped down as the Alpha and began teaching his son, showing him what it means to be a good Alpha. I had no doubts he would do great. As for myself, Sam’s mom has been teaching me what it means to be a Luna.At work, we had to think of a reason for Marissa and Keven not to show up at work anymore. We’ve told the other employees that they had decided to go live abroad and couldn’t work for us anymore. Of course, employees that were members of the pack knew the truth, b

  • The prophecy   Chapter 23 - Sam

I heard Sarah say, “You’re wrong. Humans are not weak. We have our place in the pack with the others. What we lack in physical strength, we compensate in our hearts.” I didn’t want her to speak and get attention on her. But it was too late. Georges was coming her way. He spoke with hatred in the eyes, “You fool…” nothing more was said, and I knew he was coming for her. I stepped in his way just in time to stop him. His punch was so strong I fell to the floor. My leg was hurting from the fight with Keven. “You annoying bastard.” Georges told me and then changed into his wolf form as I followed him and changed too. With the demon’s power absorbed, he was much bigger and stronger than me, even if he didn’t have Alpha blood. That fight was going to be challenging. ************ Sarah’s POV ************ A silent filled the room as Georges and Sam turned to their wolf form, preparing to battle. Everybody stopped fighting

It took us a little longer than expected to find the entrance. There were a few guards, but we dealt with them. A good portion of the pack was there. We were a good team of wolves and humans, all together to find Sarah. There was this long corridor and at the end seemed to be a big room. I could hear sounds coming from it. That’s when she spoke to me, that’s when I heard her saying she was going to die. I couldn’t hold my wolf anymore. I turned into my wolf form and ran as fast as I could. Zach knew what it meant. He led the pack towards the room, behind me. As I arrived in the room, I saw Sarah on an altar at the center, Keven was about to stab her with a dagger in the chest. I let Zach and the pack deal with the wolves that were all around the room. I jumped between Keven and Sarah with a threatening growl. There was no way I was letting him harm my mate. “It’s okay babe, I’m here.” I told Sarah through her mind. She opened he

I took my phone out and tried to call Sarah but got no answer. Then I tried to concentrate and to her through her mind, but it didn’t work. That wasn’t normal, that wasn’t good. Our bond was strong, it was easy to talk to her through my mind. If that wasn’t working, then there was a problem. “Zach, we need to go, something’s wrong with Sarah. We need to find her, now.” Zach stood up and said, “Don’t worry man, we’ll find your mate. I have a hunch I know just where to search for her.” I looked at him. I knew exactly what he had in mind, the ruins of the ancient pack. Keven was seen with other wolves searching for the sepulcher of Eurynomos. Of course, that’s where he would have taken her. I didn’t know why he would bring her there, but whatever the reason, I only knew it wasn’t a good thing. My wolf wanted to come out so bad. But I knew we needed to go by car, it would be way faster than to run as a wolf. I kept him under

  • The prophecy   Chapter 20 - Sarah

Itwas Monday morning already. I felt like the sun rose too early, I could have stayed in bed for a few more hours. But after an extra-long weekend, I needed to get ready for work. I kissed Sam and hugged him tight, breathed his scent of a man that I love so much. I went to get dressed. It was supposed to be a beautiful sunny day today, so I decided to put on my lovely white summer dress with red flowers on it. I loved this dress so much! It was mostly white on top, with no sleeves. Then on the way down, it became flowy with flowers. I thought it was quite elegant and fun at the same time. I got my hair up in a bun and looked around to see Sam staring at me. “Wow! You are too pretty to go to work,” he said in a husky voice as he got close to me. I blushed at his comment and laughed. “Thanks, but you know we need to go, right?” He nodded even though I knew he wished we could take more days off instead of going to work

  • The prophecy   Chapter 19 - Sam

I was happy with his answer, but still feeling a little annoyed. My wolf hadn’t calmed down yet. All my instincts were telling me to give her a proper lesson as to how to talk to my mate. But then again, I had to remind myself that Sarah was not a wolf. She was not used to our laws and I didn’t want to do that in front of her unless really necessary. I decided to thrust that Georges would take care of his daughter. “Let that be my final warning.” I told him still projecting my Alpha authority on them. As future Alpha, I shouldn’t have to demonstrate my dominance unless someone would challenge my dad and then me for the lead of the pack. I was stronger than the rest of the wolves and the strength of the Alpha was running in my blood since I was the Alpha’s son. Sarah took my hand and all of my anger disappeared. “Come honey,” she told me softly, “Let’s go see your mother before it’s time for us to go back home.” She was ri
