Chapter 23 - Sam
I heard Sarah say, “You’re wrong. Humans are not weak. We have our place in the pack with the others. What we lack in physical strength, we compensate in our hearts.”
I didn’t want her to speak and get attention on her. But it was too late. Georges was coming her way. He spoke with hatred in the eyes, “You fool…” nothing more was said, and I knew he was coming for her. I stepped in his way just in time to stop him. His punch was so strong I fell to the floor. My leg was hurting from the fight with Keven.
“You annoying bastard.”
Georges told me and then changed into his wolf form as I followed him and changed too. With the demon’s power absorbed, he was much bigger and stronger than me, even if he didn’t have Alpha blood. That fight was going to be challenging.

A silent filled the room as Georges and Sam turned to their wolf form, preparing to battle. Everybody stopped fighting

************ Sarah’s POV ************A lot had happened since that day. After the battle we went back to Sam’s parents’ house. We were injured but we were fine. All boxes are unpacked. Finally, I’ll be able to settle down. Not too soon either as I start my new job tomorrow. I’m so excited! I’ll be working for a big video game company in downtown Montréal, joining the marketing team. This is a dream come true! I’ve always enjoyed video games ever since I was a kid. When it finally did finish, I was eager to go home. I picked up my notes and got up, but a hand fell on my shoulder as I was about to start walking. I felt tingles coming from that touch. When I turned around, I saw Sam with the biggest smile on his face. “Hey! Sarah, it is, right?” He asked with a deep voice. “Yes, it is, and you’re Sam?” I asked him in reply, as if I didn’t remember his name. I mean the guy is gorgeous! I had a hard time concentrating the whole meeting, my eyes just kept coming back to him all the time. I was trying not to drool on the desk. He laughed a little before answering, “Yeah that’s right. So… I couldn’t help noticing you looking at me earlier.” Oh crap! I thought to myself. And here I managed to make myself look like a fool on my first day. So much for a first impression. I tried to make it as if it wasn’t true, even though it must have been so obvious.

What a day! Finding my mate was never something that worried me. A lot of my family found their mates early on. Some of my friends were teasing me as I was getting older. The day was going fine but the development of the new game was going slower than anticipated. I had to sit in with many developers trying to explain why we were behind schedule. Keven was the lead developer on that game. He was also Marissa’s mate. Keven was always a little distant, a little different from other wolves in our pack. But overall, Keven was a good guy, working hard on the software development team. “Listen, we just have a little more bugs than anticipated,” he told me. “The new dev, he’s having problems but he’s learning. Sunbeams were coming between the curtains. I woke up and realized I was curled up in Sam’s arms. I smiled at that though. I could feel his warmth breath on my neck. This last sentence made me smile, how sweet. He was right, I would be safer with him rather than alone. But I’m not five years old, I can take care of myself, right? I mean it’s not like I really knew how to fight. But there’s nothing at my apartment threatening me. Even if I felt frightened, I wanted to get home tonight. I will see him tomorrow anyways, I thought to myself. I wrote to him, “Well I want to get stuff at my apartment, and get my head together on everything that’s happening, so I think I’ll get home instead for tonight.
