Fated mate

Fated Mate, Chapter 1

POV of Freya

"Pup members, I, Lobo Foster of the Nightfall Pack, now announce the addition of my destined mate, Lupa, to our pack. In the future, I hope that everyone will treat Lupa and Luna Freya equally.

After a brief period of silence, the room burst into ecstatic cheers.

Salutations to Alpha Lobo! The Nightfall Pack will endure.

"Congratulations!"

A sense of numbness came over me as I watched the two figures snuggle up in the middle of the hallway and listened to the entire pack offer them their sincere congratulations. I couldn't even find the words to object because my thoughts were so empty.

On our third wedding anniversary, my partner Lobo told the pack he had found his destiny mate.

That was fine, except that his destined partner was another woman. To make matters worse, rather than being stunned by this information, they readily accepted it and immediately approved it.

My inner wolf, Chloe, snarled as I felt helplessly overwhelmed by anger and shame.

"Freya... what the fuck is going on?!" She demanded, plainly prepared to rip this she-wolf's throat out in her rage as the feathers on her neck sprang on end.

I desperately tried to calm Chloe down and manage my rage as I tried to stop Chloe from forcing a shift out of her excessive rage. "Chloe, calm down," I murmured.

I couldn't afford to lose control in front of so many people, especially not on such a significant occasion as Luna of the Nightfall Pack and the daughter of the Alpha of the Ironclad Pack...

"Fuck self-restraint." What's wrong with you, Freya? I couldn't care less what people think; I want to destroy them! The two of them! The smug little bastards, look at them!" Chloe was furious and virtually foaming at the mouth, refusing to stop.

"How could he harm us like this? We've been married for three years, and during that time, I've expertly handled his pack's business while never forgetting my responsibility as Luna.

It took everything I had to keep up a phony act of calmness. I was furious at this shocking information.

"Freya, don't simply sit here like a coward! Ask him what the fuck he thinks he is playing at, please! Right now!" In my brain, Chloe yelled ferociously.

I forced my freezing hands to raise my skirt as gracefully as possible while my body didn't want to cooperate as I moved towards Lobo's side. I struggled mightily to hold back the tears of rage and betrayal on the verge of falling.

I was constantly reminded of my responsibility as their Luna by the several eyes following me as I made my way over, and it helped me maintain my composure as I strolled ahead with a false sense of assurance. Even though I'm sure Chloe's rage shone brilliantly from my eyes for those who looked closely enough, I could control her as I went.

To keep the assembled pack members from overhearing our conversation, I knelt to speak to him and held a tight smile while I did so.

What the hell do you think you're doing, Lobo? What do you want to do to me on our wedding anniversary? Could this not have been put off?

"Freya, I apologize. Although I adore you, Lupa is my destined partner. I can't ignore her. Lobo said haltingly as he raised his head to face me and bore a guilty expression.

He clung onto her hard with no intention of letting go, however, because he lacked the decency to do so.

He was nothing more than a repulsive, dishonest hypocrite. The woman sitting next to him was smiling smugly up at me as I stood there, showing no signs of regret in her eyes. I was at a loss for words to describe her.

This would always be the most significant thing standing in our way. I first fell in love with Lobo when I was just 16 years old, and we made a lifelong commitment to one another. When we turned 18 and transformed into wolves, we fervently thought that the Moon Goddess would make us each other's fated mates, but, much to our disappointment, that didn't happen.

Lobo had already passionately told me then, "Freya, I love you. Even if we are not meant to be together, you are the only person my pack members will ever accept as Luna since they will never accept anyone else! I make a solemn vow that no one else will ever exist.

The same man who had previously firmly chosen me and given me the world appeared before me, this time cradling another girl in his arms. I stood before them, quivering with barely contained wrath, the unshed tears clouding my vision as the memories of the last few years kept rushing through my head. I clung tenaciously to my skirt as I made a valiant effort to divert my attention away from the agony of my broken heart and willed myself not to give in to the sadness and let these rebellious tears fall from my eyes.

I wouldn't give the satisfaction to either of them.

"Freya, my darling, you understand what it means for an Alpha to find a destined mate. I can't leave Lupa alone because she is a helpless young woman whose pack recently experienced a calamity. She has nowhere else to go if I reject her. Lobo begged imploringly.

Even though he could tell that I hadn't talked in a while, he insisted on reaching out and clutching onto my hand as usual while shamelessly gazing lovingly and sympathetically at Lupa.

"Of course, I understand what it means to be a fated partner! Lobo, you best remember who your Luna is. I'll warn you now. I shook off his hand and brazenly looked into Lobo's eyes as I growled in a low voice so that only the three of us could hear it.

"Freya, my love, I can't help it; you know how the connection is, all the times we hoped it was genuine between us so that we might feel that magnetic pull... My wolf has been acting crazy ever since I first set eyes on Lupa, and he only feels content when she's by his side. You and I understand that having a real Mate will only increase my power as an Alpha. Please accept my apology; I honestly can't send Freya away. Lupay is a good girl; she can assist you with pack issues, Lobo argued as he finally released the girl from his grasp and attempted to embrace me.

I turned to face Lupa, who had large eyes and a small frame. She appeared every bit the poor girl Lobo wanted me to think she was, staring at me shyly and clinging tenaciously to Lobo's clothing.

Lupa appeared shocked when I snorted bitterly at them both but swiftly grabbed a glass of red wine from the neighboring table and delicately handed it to me.

Respected Luna, I beg your permission to stay here. I swear I won't sabotage your banquet! It certainly wasn't my aim to cause such a conflict between you two, but Lobo has saved me out of the goodness of his heart. Lupa's attractive face was worried as she implored me with her large, wet eyes.

"Do you want to know what I think?" I said, casting a demeaning glance her way.

Lupa was startled and unsure what to do next as she clutched the wine glass. Before replying, Lobo moved closer to hide her behind him.

"Freya, you need to calm down."

"You're the one who needs to calm down!" You're not happy with your chosen mate, so you bring another woman into our home, I yelled angrily. Lobo, whether it's fate or not, you made a vow.

Lupa, who was beginning to fear as a result of my disagreement with Lobo, suddenly knelt in front of me, holding her glass of red wine aloft and sobbing as she addressed me,

I beg you, Luna, I won't meddle with anything as long as I have a place to stay! I can handle your everyday needs, cook, and do the laundry! I'll remain as long as you let me.

"Oh, this poor girl looks so pitiful." Then, another hoarse voice emerged from somewhere among the gathered pack members.

She has a purpose for being here because she is Alpha Lobo's destined mate, at least. Luna Freya shouldn't be so severe with her.

Some of the murmurs that reached my ears gave me the impression that knives were piercing my heart. Lobo was gazing at Lupa with tenderness and love in his eyes when I turned to stare at him. When I closed my eyes, bewilderment immediately overcame me. This blossoming six-year love affair, which had started in high school, now seemed like nothing more than a joke.

"Fuck these arseholes!" Chloe struggled to maintain control as she fought the need to run outside and rip the pair in front of us to pieces.

But I couldn't let her do it.

The moment is not yet suitable for fury. I still serve as this Pack's Luna, at least for now. She was made to calm down by my collected response.

"I'm not in the least bit in agreement with you. It would help if you addressed this right away openly. Chloe responded sourly and slid to the back of my thoughts.

"We shall appropriately settle the score with them following the banquet. Chloe, I won't act in such a way in front of so many people.

I inhaled deeply, grabbed Lupa's wine glass, and downed it in one gulp. I reached out, grabbed her by the arm, pulled her upright, and forced her to stand. I shoved her in the direction of Lobo with a mocking grimace.

"Lobo, my respect and love for you end now. You've already made your decision; I'll now make mine. We will adequately resolve matters after the banquet. I declared icily.

Lobo appeared to want to say more when he opened his mouth, but I stopped paying attention. Instead, I took the seat usually reserved for Luna and patiently awaited Chloe's return when she had taken a break.

I urged Chloe, "Chloe, it's time," as I got closer to the forest's edge. We had spent endless hours running and exploring in the shady depths of the tall trees, and it was our ideal place to unwind when things got too hectic.

But something odd was taking place. No matter how often I called for her, she never showed up. For the first time since we met at age 18, I had no answer from her.

I was about to utilize the pack's mind link to speak with the Pack's private physician about this because I felt very uneasy when my body erupted in excruciating pain as my heart appeared to rupture. I then collapsed to the ground.

What in the world was going on with me?

"Respected Luna, did you enjoy the wine earlier?" Overhead, I could hear a taunting voice.

I stLupad on the ground, trying desperately to lift my head, but all I could see was the lonely form of a small woman. My body wouldn't budge.

"Fuck, Lupa!"
