Mia was patiently waiting for everyone in the hall to be distracted enough so that no one would notice her absence. She didn't want to be there, but she did it for her grandfather. She didn't like the attention she received, and all the protocol was something she wasn't willing to endure.

When her grandfather ran into an old friend, Mia took the opportunity to escape through the bathroom window, although her cumbersome dress made her escape attempt anything but easy. She kept getting stuck in the window frame until, finally, after several attempts, she was able to free herself. However, she lost her balance and fell onto someone.

Her face turned as white as a sheet. In her mind, there was only the image of one of her grandfather's guards preventing her from leaving, her grandmother's scolding words, and her grandfather's disappointed eyes upon learning that she had failed to keep her promise.

"Wouldn't it be better to use the door?" a sweet but manly voice was heard just below her.

"Wouldn't it be better if you didn't meddle in other people's affairs?" Mia replied sarcastically. "Go away and stop being nosy."

"I would, but someone had the decency to use me as a mattress," said the handsome man. "If only you would get up, I could go and stop meddling in your affairs."

Mia quickly got up, her cheeks were flushed. She was sure she didn't look her best at the moment. Her hair must have been messed up from the fall, and it was true that she had fallen onto that man. But the girl's pride was too great, and that made her walk furiously to leave through the garden door of her grandfather's mansion.

The scene was extremely funny for Nicolás: his gala suit was a mess, but he couldn't help smiling as he watched that girl in her beautiful red dress trying to walk through the garden with her hair tangled and her brow furrowed. He found it so endearing and, at the same time, it increased his desire to be able to leave the place in the same way that she wasn't doing at that moment.

Finally, he watched her silhouette disappear into the darkness of the night, hoping that perhaps she would come back and make that night less boring. He accompanied his father to one of his parties, with the promise that he would leave him alone, but he knew that in the end, it would only be a strategy to introduce him to another potential wife.

Since taking over the company a year ago, his father had been desperate for him to get married and have an heir who would improve the company's position among potential partners. The Lennox business group had started as a small construction company that had quickly risen to the top. However, as new money, their credibility with established companies with years of experience was very low. The best solution, according to his father, was to marry someone who would improve his status, but Nicolas refused every time. No one was remotely interesting to him.

It was a complete surprise for Nicolas to find that little indomitable wildcat among the crowd at the party. It was like finding a diamond in the rough among tons of coal. That made him relax and forget that his father was waiting for him somewhere at the party. It wasn't until he felt a tap on his shoulder that he returned to reality.

"God, Nicolas," his father spoke, startling his son. "What happened to your suit?"

Nicolas realized that his suit was torn and there were lipstick marks on his white shirt. The girl had literally fallen from the sky.

"I fell just as I was coming in."

"And does the red stain on your clothes mean you tripped over a woman's lips?" His father's ironic question made Nicolas lower his head. "Anyway, go change right now. Don't let anyone else see you like this."

"As you wish, father."

Nicolas's tone of voice made it seem like he was not happy to leave the party, but it was just a trick to stop hearing his father's reproaches. The girl who fell from the sky was like an angel with the character of a demon, but either way, she had saved him from a boring night
