Prisoner

Big blue eyes twinkling with tears looked up at him. They were the most beautiful and vulnerable eyes he’d ever seen. Just by looking into them, they revealed the feeling of the person. Just like when she collided with him and he saw a cloud of shock and fear in them. They were replaced then by a mixture of terror and horror when he has killed these rivalry gangsters. Now, the girl laid unconscious on his bed and she seemed so vulnerable and innocent that he felt a feeling of protectiveness rising inside him and this unfamiliar feeling completely disturbed him.

Devlin glanced at her again.

She was a very beautiful young woman probably in her early twenties or maybe even eighteen or close. She had a pale, milky innocence, thin and somewhat frail looking body, yet possessing a steely attraction. Her hair was braided with very few bangs covering her forehead. Her eyelashes were long and it was difficult to say whether they were real or fake. However her face was bare of any trace of makeup yet her skin was still glowing! She had a small, straight nose followed by thin, naturally pink lips.

Her neck was long and elegant. Her tiny body was fully covered with a red blouse and dark trousers which were slightly torn, and her feet were clad in white sneakers. There was so sight of jewelry, neither a watch nor a ring. She was too simple to be real. All her existence was leaking innocence and beauty.

She looked so pretty and vulnerable. Was it because it was so long since he had been in the company of a woman or maybe he had been in the world of harshness for too long?

Without much desire, Devlin at last dragged his eyes away and concentrated on Jordan, his close friend who was restlessly pacing the room. The latter stopped and asked,

''Seriously, how can you be so careless?! For heaven's sake, I’m asking you again for the tenth time why did you bring this girl here?'' He croaked hoarsely, tension filled his voice.

Devlin shrugged and replied coolly,

''And I'm telling you for the tenth time, I didn't have any choice. Did I? She was lost and didn't know where her house is. Also, she fainted on me - and I felt quite guilty about that. Just look at her, do you think I could leave her there while she was still unconscious?'' He gestured towards the sleepy lady, beside them.

Jordan glanced at her and his expression softened.

''When she wakes up, what do you intend to do about her?'' Facing his friend, Jordan demanded suspiciously.

''What do you mean?'' Devlin frowned.

''You know perfectly what I mean. This girl can be a danger to you, Devlin. She now knows too much about you. She has even seen your face when you know damn well that your identity is a mystery. Worst, she has now witnessed all your murders and she could definitely report you to the police. Crazily, now you have even brought her to your place, something unknown to everyone except me!''

Jordan looked at him intensely and there was a deep frown on Devlin’s forehead. He was seriously right. He was so hypnotized by the nature of this woman that he unconsciously forgot his nature! God, where the hell he got himself stuck in! Devlin cursed in his head. He grabbed a handful of his hair and shut his eyes. Thoughts were scattering here and there in his mind as he thought deeply. Most probably, today he had done the most stupidest mistake in his life. And definitely a very risky one! He had to think the most possible and rapid solution, even if it will cause him a lot of nuisances.

“what are you thinking?'' Jordan demanded to know after a few tensed minutes.

Already made up his mind, Devlin blew a breath and met his friend’s gaze.

''I don't have any choice. I will keep her here until I'm done with the criminals,'' his reply came out softly but firmly.

He knew it was a cruel decision but he had no other choice. Things would get haywire if he got involved with the police so he better kept her here until he decided otherwise.

Jordan looked at him speechlessly, didn't dare say any word as he knew too well, when his friend made up his mind, no one could ever challenged that.

''You know that for eight years I have been planning this and now that I am near my goal, this stranger will not stand in my way!'' Devlin snapped angrily, causing the lady to stir on the bed.

He turned to Jordan and ordered, more quietly this time, ''Remove all means of communication from the phone we found in her pocket and put a phone tracker in it. If ever she escapes, when and where she goes, it's your responsibility to inform me.''

Jordan nodded, took the phone which was on the table then left the room, leaving his friend alone to face the woman who was slowly drifting out of sleep and who was about to get the shock of her life, knowing that she was trapped here with a gangster.

Slowly opening her eyes, Sarah noticed a different ceiling. Usually, her room in Maria's house was a purple one but how come this one was white? Where was she?

Then, it struck her like a lightning. All the memories came back one after the other, the library, the abandoned house, the monster who had cruelly murdered three people!

With a gulp, she closed her eyes again, hoping the nightmare would go away. But it never did. When Sarah opened her eyes again, she still saw the same ceiling. Sideway, she saw a movement and abruptly sat up on the bed. Immediately she winced when she knocked against these dangerous grey eyes looking at her, intensely, just like the ones in the nightmare. Her heart began to race as she stared at the man, sitting casually on the armchair with his arms crossed over his chest, unconsciously highlighting her beasty muscles. And what a man he was! Her experience was limited when it came to men but it didn't take a scientist to know this creature was sexy as hell. Compared to the monster she had met in the terrible dream, this one was now dressed in a white evening shirt unbuttoned enough to show his tanned chest, and a pair of dark slacks. His dusty hair was now clean, carefully combed and pushed back. His eyes as she first saw were icy grey and soul piercing! His nose was straight and his lips were thin, slightly curved in a smirk. Sarah wanted to take more time to admire this beautiful creature but her heart was urging her otherwise.

She swallowed the lump in her throat when he finally broke the silence.

''Well? Finally you are up,” he snapped impatiently.

Sarah couldn’t help but glanced through her lashes at the stranger. What does he mean? Was he watching her while she was sleeping? For how long was she here? What was she doing here? Did he kidnap her? Did he want to ransom her? Did he want to kill her?! The thoughts ran like mice in Sarah’s brain, while she was slowly and unconsciously backing away on the bed, creating a long distance between the man and herself, this man whose intense and disturbing gaze was still on her, not once blinking!

''Careful Miss, one last move and you will find yourself on the floor,” he warned, his gaze still fixed on Sarah.

It was then that the latter realised that she has already reached the other side of the bed. Grinding her teeth, she slapped herself mentally. Don't be a coward Sarah! Fire him all the questions! Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm herself.

''What- am I doing here? Where am I? Why am I here?” She asked without stopping even though she noticed the mockery and amusement in this devil’s eyes!

''For now, you are my guest. You are in my house and you are here, because we don’t know yet where you live, Am I right?''

With a dry throat, she nodded and explained shakily, “ye-yes I don’t know the address of the house because I don’t live here. I’m a tourist here.”

Devlin didn’t blink but instead his eyes narrowed icily. She had a different accent, he realised.

But he had no proof whether this girl was speaking the truth or not. But no matter what, she was not going to leave this house anytime soon.

''Will-will you ki-kill me?'' Sarah couldn't stop herself from asking when the silence has settled again.

''No,” he replied uncommunicatively. The arrogant swine was enjoying this!

Suddenly, he stood to his full length making Sarah gasped. He was definitely the tallest man she’d ever seen. He had to be six feet or more! Suddenly she felt so small and fragile in front of the man and then,

''You will stay here until I decide when to let you go,'' he put it bluntly, a dangerous glitter in his eyes.

A simple phrase rapped out yet an explosion to all her hope and peaceful mind.
