~ Aria's POV ~

"Lucian was right, Aria. You shouldn't try to meddle in the conflict between the vampires and werewolves," Callista said.

She was sitting in her dressing chair, combing her dyed pink hair as she stared at her reflection in the mirror.

"You’re all students here… so why do you just watch your classmates fight like it’s normal? Doesn’t anyone care enough to stop it?"

Callista chuckled softly, like she found my concern amusing. "We’re talking about vampires and werewolves, Aria. They’ve been enemies since forever. Always at each other’s throats. Everyone knows that. That’s why we don’t interfere—we just watch."

"I just don't get it, Callista. If they're sworn enemies, why are they in this school?"

"The Moon Goddess works in strange ways. No one knows why she suddenly opened the academy to all supernaturals. But I’m not complaining," she said with a smirk. "I’ve always wanted to be here."

"Where can I meet this Moon Goddess? She’s got some serious explaining to do. Why does

~ Aria's POV ~Lucian stood up, his eyes narrowing into sharp daggers aimed straight at Raven. If looks could kill, Raven would’ve dropped dead on the spot."You don't need to remind me about that," he snarled, his voice like a low growl in the room."Then leave," Raven replied coldly, pointing toward the door with pure disdain."You don't get to order me around, Raven. Maybe you've forgotten you're just a baby to me," Lucian sneered, deliberately provoking him. Raven, always the one to take words personally, lunged forward and grabbed Lucian’s collar."You better shut your mouth, stupid incubus," he growled. Lucian smirked, cool as ever, and pushed Raven's hand off his collar like it meant nothing."Hate it or love it, I'm still a hundred years older than you," he said with an annoying grin, and Raven flared his nose in irritation. What was it about Lucian being older that got under his skin? Not everyone was going to be the same age. They were both supernatural creatures who had out

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 33

~ Aria's POV ~His fingers brushed through my face like I was the most important person to him. My eyes were closed, but I could easily tell it was him. His spicy amber scent filled my senses, gently waking me from unconsciousness.Lucian was stroking my face with his soft fingertips, and a smile crept onto my lips. I was happy because his being here meant he wasn’t mad at me anymore.I didn't want to open my eyes. I wanted to keep them closed so he could continue brushing his fingers on my face, making me feel like I was the only girl in the world."If you're awake, just open your eyes," he whispered.I flicked one eye open, and he chuckled. My Lucian was back. The Lucian who always smiled at me had returned. It felt like I was floating on cloud nine. Even my soul celebrated his return.I sat up on the bed, and his enchanting blue eyes locked on mine. They were filled with that familiar warmth I had always adored."Are you feeling okay now?" he asked, and I nodded."Are you sure?" he

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 32

~ Aria's POV ~"Really? You want me to join your team?" I asked, my eyes widening in surprise. A warm feeling stirred in my chest at her kindness. I really wanted to join the game to know how fun it was, which is why I was over the moon that she offered me a chance to join her group."Yes, you can. You look lonely, and I really feel bad for you," she smiled. "The other witches are waiting. You should join us," she said, pulling me into the circle of other witches.Callista, who was busy trying to talk to the witches—whom I assumed were popular and powerful due to the way they carried themselves—was shocked to see me."What are you doing here, Aria?" she whispered."Was that why you abandoned me to be with your kind?" I returned with a frown. She claimed we were friends, yet she ditched me to cozy up with her fellow witches."I'm really sorry about that, Aria," she said, her voice low and filled with guilt. "I just thought... maybe you weren’t interested since you’re not one of us.""W

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 31

~ Aria's POV ~My heart thudded violently in my chest as Thorne continued leaning closer to my lips. I closed my eyes to feel his thin, soft pink lips brushing against mine. His lips were inches away from mine, and just when he was about to melt them into mine, a voice cut through the air like a whip."What are you doing?" he asked, staring angrily at Thorne.Thorne pulled away from me, and I wished he hadn't. I wanted to know how it’d feel to kiss Thorne, but Lucian just had to ruin the moment. Without many words, Thorne walked away, and I was left with just Lucian."Hi," I waved at him, hoping we could go back to the way we once were, but Lucian stared at me coldly and walked away. Seriously? Is he just going to walk away after interrupting my kiss with Thorne? I thought I was really going to have my very first kiss, but I guess I’ll save it for another day—and maybe this time around, the kiss won’t be from Thorne. Maybe it’ll come from either Lucian or Raven. They’re the only guys

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 30

~ Aria's POV ~Lying on my bed, I couldn't stop thinking about Lucian's words. They echoed relentlessly in my mind, refusing to let me go. What did he do to save me?I sighed tirelessly as I couldn't make any meaning out of his words. I really saw the pain in his eyes when he lashed out at me.Was I too harsh on him?I wouldn't have done that if he had just listened to me, and now I feel like I’m the villain in his story."Aria Nightshade, you're needed in my office," Miss Hellcat spoke loudly out of nowhere, snapping me out of my thoughts. What does she want now? Then it hit me—Raven had warned me she’d be pissed about us spending the night outside the Academy. She can fuss about that, yet she can turn a blind eye to the escalating violence between the werewolves and vampires. If I were a science student, I'd have just used her for a failed experiment, because she can never be useful at a time when you need her the most."You've only five minutes to get here, Aria Nightshade," she sa

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 29

~ Aria's POV ~I turned to look at him, and his dark brown eyes were already on me. Why would he even be curious about me? I thought I was just someone he hated. If he hates you like you assume, he wouldn't bother where you'd spend the night, fool! my subconscious mind snapped at me."You're curious about me?" I repeated like I didn't hear him correctly."Why do you like asking so many questions?" he asked, as if talking to someone was really exhausting. No wonder he likes being on his own.I gave him a small, challenging smile. "I’ll tell you a bit about myself… but only if you stop calling me little rat."He turned his head and looked at me fully. We were both lying on the bed, facing each other. For the first time, I could stare directly into his hypnotic eyes without him standing over me like a shadow."Seriously?" he asked, his brows knitting together."Yes, seriously. I don't like you calling me little rat. Do I look like a rat?" I frowned, and he chuckled.Raven chuckled for
