~ Aria’s POV ~

I blinked three times, stunned by his words. Why would he even think I’m his mate? Then Callista’s voice echoed in my mind—clear and unwavering—reminding me that Thorne hadn’t found his mate yet.

“You think I’m your mate?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, as my mind drifted to Lyra, Thorne’s pack-picked mate.

He sighed and shut his eyes closed, briefly “Forget I said that,” he said, standing up from the chair like he was ready to leave.

“Are you leaving?” I muttered, feeling sad about it. He had just arrived, and he was already leaving.

Thorne didn’t respond, but then he got a call from Lyra. I saw her name flash on the screen before he swiped green.

“What’s up?” he asked casually, and I frowned. Why is he even entertaining her? If it had been Raven, he wouldn’t have bothered picking up Seraphina’s call. Is he nice to Lyra because she’s his Pack-pick? Is that sacred bond really that important?

I didn’t hear what Lyra said, but Thorne nodded, slipping his hand i

~ Aria's POV ~Just like Thorne had said, Kael came to get me as soon as he left."Is everything okay with Thorne?" I asked, with worry etched in my voice. When he left earlier, he didn't seem happy."Why would you think everything is not okay with him?" Kael returned."Because he wasn't really in a good mood when he left earlier. Will his father do something to him?" I asked."How should I know?" he shrugged dismissively."You’re going to be his second-in-command after he becomes Alpha, right? You’re his Beta. Don’t tell me you have no idea what’s going on," I said, my voice growing firmer."I don't. And even if I did, I wouldn't possibly tell you about it.""Why? Because I'm not a werewolf like the rest of you?""You should've thought about that before hanging out with Thorne.""What do you mean? What did Lyra say to Thorne's father? What is he going to do to Thorne?" I asked so many questions at once."I'd like it if you remained quiet, silver-white hair.""It's Aria!" I snapped, n

~ Aria's POV ~"That's your mom, right? Why aren’t you answering?" Thorne’s voice was calm, but there was a flicker of concern in his eyes as he glanced between me and the glowing screen of my phone."Well… I’m going to answer it later," I muttered, quickly silencing the call."You sure about that?" he asked, one brow arched."Yeah... I'm sure." I forced a smile, though it didn't quite reach my eyes. I turned to stare out the window, pretending to admire the passing scenery.I didn't answer the phone because I didn't know what to say to her. I didn't know if I should just scream at my screen or scold her for not trying to reach out after she assured me she wouldn't take me to my destruction. She just happened to call at a time when I no longer cared if she called me or not. She called again, and Thorne's eyes fell on me."You should answer that," he said."I don't want to," I murmured, powering off the phone and slipping it into the back pocket of my jeans."Why aren't you answering t

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 60

~ Aria's POV ~Thorne’s hands slipped around my waist, pulling me so close, it felt like he wanted to tattoo my body into his skin. His lips moved hungrily against mine, deepening the kiss with every second, as if he couldn't get enough of me.My fingers clutched the hem of his black T-shirt, holding on like it was the only thing grounding me. I let myself melt into the delicious sweetness of his mouth. This was my first kiss… and I was drowning in the warmth of it. His lips tasted like vanilla — warm, soft, and addictive.I wanted more. I craved more of his sinful lips on mine, but sadly, Thorne pulled back to catch his breath. Our lips were wet, swollen from the intensity of what had just happened. I could still hear the rapid pounding of our hearts — fast, loud, and in sync.My gaze lifted to his gray eyes, and suddenly I felt shy, pressing my lips together and looking away. I couldn’t believe I just had my first kiss… with Thorne."Was that... your first kiss?" he asked. Was it ob

~ Aria's POV ~Miss Hellcat's eyes were fixed on me as I stood in front of her, my hands folded around my chest, waiting for her to say something."Are you going to say something?" I snapped, my voice laced with irritation, "or are you just going to keep staring at me like I’m some freak show?""Why did you do that to your fellow students? Do you know you could've killed them?" she asked."Kill them?" I scoffed, my voice rising. "So it’s wrong when I defend myself, but it’s fine when they try to kill me? If I hadn’t done what I did, I’d be dead by now.""You know it’s against the rules of this school to use their weaknesses against them, right?" she said, knitting her brows."I don't care about the rules here, Miss Hellcat. As long as they want to keep hurting me, then I'm going to keep fighting back in any way I can. I won't let them bully me again," I replied firmly.I was expecting her to lash out at me and support the monsters like she always does, but instead of doing that, she s

~ Aria's POV ~The morning sun filtered through the curtains and kissed my skin, coaxing a soft smile to my lips. My eyes fluttered open slowly, adjusting to the light. I sat up on the bed, stretching all over with a smiling face. For the first time since I arrived in this school, I had slept peacefully, without being scared. After what I did to them last night, they won't even think about coming close to me. If they tried to act stubborn, I was ready for them. I wouldn't hesitate to fight back.Still grinning like a child with her favorite candy, I hopped out of bed, dancing to the beat of no music—or should I say, dancing to the music creating itself in my head.Last night was the best night of my life because I had done what those monsters least expected from me.As I hummed the tune in my head, I opened my wardrobe to look for something to wear, only to be met with emptiness. Then it occurred to me that I had literally packed my clothes into my luggage when I made up my mind to le

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 57

~ Aria's POV ~Jeremiah's eyes scanned through the list of items I had written, and when he was done reading it, he gave me a suspicious look."Are you hunting supernatural beings now? Why would you need silver, crucifixes, salt, irons, amulets, and runes?" he asked, narrowing his eyes."Just tell me where I can find them… and lend me some money too. I promise I’ll start working here immediately to pay you back," I said, nodding earnestly."What are you up to, Aria? You're... acting weird. Velmora is filled with supernatural beings, and these items you just mentioned are like their weakening point. So what do you need them for?" he pressed on, trying to get a glimpse of what I was up to.But I wasn’t ready to tell him the truth. I had written those items down because they were what the monsters in the Academy feared. And now that Jeremiah had said the same, I was fully convinced they’d work. If I didn’t have the power to fight back, then I’d use what they feared most.I won't be afrai
