His gaze and smile turned toward me, making me blink and swallow. Then his lips hit mine before I could even process his face coming closer. I froze for a second, completely caught off-guard. His lips were soft and he tasted like caramel. His favorite sweetener.

I leaned into the kiss without thinking much of it. It felt so familiar… and easy. Like I’d been in that moment a hundred times before. His tongue slipped into my mouth and an embarrassing low moan came out of me. The baby whined in my arms.

“Can you not be disgusting?” Marcus muttered near us, making Trojan break off the kiss and kiss my forehead instead.

Moon Goddess, how did I get here? How did this become my life?

“You go get the dress,” Trojan murmured and gently took the baby from me. “I’ll take care of these two and make sure the preparations go smoothly.”

“Thank fuck.” Marcus rolled his eyes.

I just stood there like a deer caught in the headlights, all while trying to figure out how to tell my supposed baby daddy that I didn’t want to go anywhere with his son. Or anywhere near him for that matter.

Marcus glanced at me with a sweet smile. “Let’s go get ready, mommy. You have twenty minutes before we have to leave.”

He hooked his arm to mine and led me up the stairs. Then the psycho waited in my bedroom as I got ready. The good news was, I had breast pads. The bad news was, my breasts hurt like a motherfucker by the time I was done dressing. And they felt fuller than earlier. Further cementing that those little strangers were mine.

I bet everyone at the academy had a field day with that. I couldn’t imagine the insults I probably got from them for this development. Slut. Daddyfucker. Whore. Marcus wouldn’t pull any punches. Did I even go to the academy anymore?

---

Marcus’s designer friend, Kieran, had the dress ready by the time we arrived.

“What the hell is that?” I asked, staring at the orange monstrosity Marcus called a dress.

A dress that he ordered for me. It looked like a half-peeled orange, and the way it was so big, I was certain that it would make me look like Winnie-the-Pooh. If not worse.

It was hanging on its own rack next to a bunch of other dresses. Probably because it needed the space.

“I thought it was better than the one you originally ordered,” Marcus muttered, pretending to be looking through the other rags in the store.

I doubted that. I’d never had much fashion sense or fashion experience, but I was sure as hell that I’d never choose anything like it. Not even in a dream while in a coma. I wondered what I actually chose.

“Just take what you’re given and make do.” Marcus turned to me and folded his arms in front of him. “We are already feeding you for free.”

I bit my lower lip, waiting for the words to pierce my chest like they always did. I’d heard them so many times before, coming from him and his friends. Even from the person the Moon Goddess had supposedly chosen specifically for me.

But the tidal wave never came.

The words still stung, but they didn't crush me like they normally would have. There was no sudden burn behind my eyes. No tightness in my throat. No desperate need to pretend I wasn't hurt while wondering what I'd done to deserve it.

I just stood there watching that smug look he always gave whenever he was waiting for me to flush in shame or even cry.

Instead, I turned to Kieran. “Can I get something else?”

He blinked in surprise, his eyes traveling between Marcus and me. As if trying to figure out which one of us to listen to. One thing was clear to me, though. I wasn’t going to let Marcus walk all over me on this. It felt like I wasn’t that girl anymore.

I remembered how I used to shrink whenever he spoke to me. How I’d swallow my tears and tell myself that I was used to it. How I'd lie awake afterward replaying every word until I found a reason to blame myself.

That missing year didn’t seem so scary anymore. And if I was going to find out what happened to me, I had to stand my ground, starting by making sure that Marcus treated me with some level of respect. I was his daddy’s woman after all.

“We are taking what we ordered.” His arms were still folded when he walked closer. “You wouldn’t want to waste my dad’s five thousand dollars, would you?”

I looked at the dress, then at him. “No.”

His smug smile returned. “Good.”

“I said I don't want to waste his money.”

His smile faltered.

I pointed at the orange disaster. “That thing looks like it was designed specifically to waste it.”

Kieran made a strange choking sound beside us.

Marcus's jaw tightened. “Watch your mouth.”

“Why?” I asked. “Are you going to cry?”

His palm connected with my cheek so hard that my ears rang. He might’ve been an omega, but that slap was all man.I just stood there, staring at the floor while the sting spread across my face. I could hear my own heartbeat pounding. Then I looked back at him. He was breathing hard, his face twisted with anger.I raised my hand and slapped him as hard as I could. In the past I never would’ve dared no, but it felt good to finally stand up for myself. Even though he’d probably make my life more difficult.Kieran's eyes were as wide as an owl. He looked between us like he'd suddenly found himself trapped in the middle of a pack war.“Oh, shit,” he muttered, taking a step back.Marcus slowly turned his face toward me. His hand went to his cheek as his eyes widened in disbelief. “You hit me?”“You hit me first,” I muttered. His jaw clenched and I thought he was going to hit me again, probably harder this time.Kieran moved between us. “Okay. No. Absolutely not.” He raised both hand

I stayed in the bathroom for another few minutes because, honestly, I wasn't ready to go downstairs and face whatever Marcus meant. How was I twenty, with children, a missing year, and a relationship with Alpha Trojan that I couldn't remember starting? The worst part was that Trojan hadn't acted like we were a couple when he came into my bedroom. He sat on the edge of my bed and asked if I was feeling alright. He didn’t kiss me, hug me, or even touch me in a way that suggested we were anything more than a former guardian and ward. If Marcus was telling the truth, that meant I wasn’t in a coma. And he said there was never a fire, but I clearly remembered a fire. Was I losing it? Did I lose my memories? Or did I die and get reborn in the future? Okay, it was definitely not the latter. That would be nuts. I slowly walked toward the bedroom door.“Okay, Billie,” I whispered to myself. “You can do this.”I walked down the hallway and followed the sound of the crying downstairs. When

I stared at him in the mirror, my heart caught in my throat. I opened my mouth to answer but just ended up closing it. Everything from year sixteen hung between us, or hung in me. He probably didn’t even care. He already did a lot to nineteen-year-old me. And judging from what he just called, he hadn’t changed much in the year I lost.He started calling me fatty at seventeen, a year after my dad died. He never did it in Alpha Trojan’s presence, of course. He was too smart for that. At this point I still didn’t understand what made him change. Even when I probably burned alive in that science building, I didn’t know why my best friend started hating me. “I don’t feel so good.” I forced a tight smile before scrunching up my face. “My tummy hurts and I feel lightheaded”.I didn’t understand why there was a party that I supposedly had to fetch a dress for when I clearly just woke up from a coma.“It’s probably all that sugar you keep chugging down.” Marcus made a disgusted face.I d

My eyes opened to a pounding on the door. The familiar ceiling of my bedroom came into view. I looked around a bit, wondering why I wasn’t in a hospital. Did they manage to save me?I remembered waking up coughing as smoke filled the old science building. I remembered the heat from the door when I tried to escape, the panic in my chest as I screamed for someone to let me out, and the voices outside as they finally realized I was trapped inside. Then came the hissing beneath me.The gas line.I remembered the explosion.I started inspecting myself for injuries, completely ignoring the knocking on the door. I was perfectly fine. I had no burns and I didn’t feel any pain. But that could’ve just been because my wolf healed fast. Or maybe I was asleep longer than I thought?“Billie,” Alpha Trojan muttered from outside the door, his deep voice sounding curious.“Yes?” I managed. My voice sounded throaty and nothing like my usually-on-edge self.A second later, the door opened and he

Professor Whitmore gave me a disgusted look, scrunching up his nose. “What happened to you?”I opened my mouth to speak but he cut me off.“Go clean that shit off,” he muttered, stepping away from the door.I rushed out, laughter following me until I was in the hallway. And that’s when the tears came. I kept walking with my head down, wiping my cheeks with my sticky hands. I could hear people whispering as they passed me, and I knew some of them already saw the video or pictures from the classroom. It wouldn't take long before the whole academy knew what had happened.I wasn't going to the bathroom. I didn't want to stand in front of a mirror and look at myself, and I definitely didn't want to risk running into Marcus or any of his friends.I had another place in mind.My favorite hiding spot was at the far end of the school grounds, inside the old science building. It was technically off-limits, although students rarely went there anymore. The school had closed that section y
