CELESTE

Dominic picked me up at five.

We didn't talk much in the car. What was there to say? We were either about to prove he was wrong, or we were about to have our entire lives rearranged.

Rosewood Resort sat at the edge of the city, all glass and warm light and the kind of quiet money that didn't need to announce itself. According to Dominic's words, Julian had rented the entire East wing and so it wasn't open to other people.

But Dominic had already arranged everything. Two employees met us at the back entrance and for a folded stack of bills, led us through a service corridor and out into the resort's private garden in the East wing.

The sky had been rumbling for the past hour. Dark clouds rolling in fast. I could smell the rain coming.

"We have to be quick," Dominic said quietly.

We moved along the tree line and I told myself for the hundredth time that we were going to find nothing. An empty garden. A misunderstanding. Something I could take home and hold up like proof that I hadn't been a fool.

Then I saw him.

Julian.

My husband stood between two palm trees in the resort garden, dressed casually in a way I had never seen him dress for a business trip. Linen shirt, sleeves rolled up, a drink in one hand.

And Sera tucked under his other arm like she belonged there.

They were laughing.

Laughing like the world was a beautiful private joke that only the two of them understood.

I stopped walking. I couldn't feel my legs.

No. My mind was screaming it. No, no, no.

Dominic stopped beside me. But I felt him look at me, just once, quickly, the way you look at someone when you think they can't see you. Like he was checking if I was still standing.

I was. Barely.

My hands were shaking when I pulled out my phone and called Julian's number.

Across the garden, Julian glanced at his screen. He said something to Sera. I saw her roll her eyes. Then he answered.

"Baby." His voice was warm. Happy. Completely normal. "I was just thinking about you. I miss you so much already."

My throat had closed, but I forced the words out. "Where are you right now?"

"At my desk." He lied so easily and effortlessly. "Swamped with work but I can't stop thinking about you. Did you sleep okay? You were so deep asleep when I left, you looked so beautiful. Do you miss me?"

"I do," I said.

"I miss you more." He laughed softly. "I'll call you before bed, okay? Don't stay up too late."

Then the call ended.

Across the garden, Julian slipped his phone back into his pocket and turned back to Sera. She reached up and pulled his face down to hers and he kissed her.

He kissed her the way he used to kiss me.

The sky broke open. Rain came down hard and fast, soaking through my clothes in seconds. I just stood there and let it.

I stood in the rain and watched them in each other's arms while tears ran down my face and mixed with the rainwater, and I couldn't even tell the difference anymore.

Then Sera laughed at something he said and turned, leaning back against a tree.

And Julian didn't hesitate.

His hands found her like they knew exactly where to go. Like they had done this a hundred times before.

Because they had.

My breath left my body.

He lifted her thigh like she weighed nothing. Like I had never existed.

What happened next broke something in me that I already knew would never heal.

I watched my husband take my best friend in the rain and I couldn't look away.

I couldn't move. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't do anything except stand there completely hollow and feel my entire world burn down around me.

Suddenly, Dominic's hand closed around my arm.

"Come on," he said quietly. "You've seen enough."

I let him pull me away from the rain, away from Julian and Sera and the ruins of everything I thought was mine.

He was right. I had seen enough.

Enough to know that every flower he ever sent me meant nothing. Every phone call, every whispered I love you, every morning kiss and every promise of forever meant absolutely nothing.

Two years of my life.

Gone.

I didn't scream or fall to my knees, the way they do in movies, I just walked through the rain beside a man I barely knew, soaking wet, completely hollow, with one question running over and over through my mind like a broken record.

What was wrong with me?

What did I do wrong?

It happens like that I’m blaming both of them as the saying goes it takes two to tango, I understand her pain I’ve never caught him but I know my husband has cheated on me

I feel so sorry for Celeste. I hate men like this; who cheat on their wives. It's so annoying...

  • Two Can Play   Chapter 024

CELESTE There was a pause. Then Seraphine glared at Julian, before she turned to me and ground out, through gritted teeth, "I am sorry. But no matter what, you should answer our questions." I wiped my face with the back of my hand and sniffled. "Fine," I told them. "I will tell you every single thing that happened to me." I reached into my pocket, pulled out my new phone, and handed it to Julian. He stared at it in surprise. "Whose phone is this?" "Mine," I replied. I took a deep breath and launched into the story I had prepared. "I was at home when a courier delivered a parcel to me. It was an invitation to a party. I would not have gone, but the name of the recipient was Helix Research Laboratory. How could I ignore that?" Julian nodded slowly. "I saw it was a party for high profile people in society. To reveal the chairman of Veil Holdings and all that. I did not even know that Dominic Ford was the chairman or that he was going to be there. I ordered a dress.

  • Two Can Play   Chapter 023

CELESTE I walked through the front door and the smell hit me before anything else. Sex. Sweat. The kind of thick, used air that comes from bodies that have been tangled together. I knew that smell. I had come home to it many times before, back when I was still stupid enough to trust Julian. I looked at Seraphine sitting on my sofa, and I looked at Julian standing near the kitchen doorway with that fake concern on his face, and I knew exactly what they had been doing while I was gone. The thought should have burned. It didn't. It just sat there in my chest, cold and still, like a stone I had swallowed a long time ago and finally stopped choking on. Hearing Julian talk about fidelity, I resisted the urge to slap him. Just entering the house, taking one look at Sera with her smeared lipstick and the smell of sex all over this room, I knew they had just finished. Probably right on my couch. Maybe against the wall. Maybe in my bed. It didn't matter anymore. Nothing they did could

  • Two Can Play   Chapter 022

JULIAN "Celeste!" She was now singing. I paced the bedroom with the black dress in my hand and called her name until my throat was raw and she just kept singing behind that bathroom door like I was background noise. Like I was furniture. Like I was nothing. "Celeste!" The shower cut off. I stopped pacing. I stood in the center of the room and I waited. I told myself to stay calm and I was not calm. I was the opposite of calm. I was a man holding a dress that smelled like another man and waiting for his wife to come out of the bathroom she had disappeared into the moment she walked through the door. The door opened. She came out in a towel, her hair damp, her skin warm from the water, looking like a woman who had just had the most relaxing evening of her life. She looked at me the way you look at someone who has interrupted something pleasant. "Why are you screaming my name like I'm deaf?" I held up the dress. "How could you do this to me?" My voice came out lower than I in

  • Two Can Play   Chapter 021

JULIAN I could not believe my eyes.Standing on that stage, under those lights, was my wife. My Celeste. Dressed like she was going to a whore's ball instead of a charity gala. That red dress barely covered her breasts. The slit went all the way up to her thigh. Every man in that room was looking at her. I saw their eyes. I saw the way they devoured her with their gazes. And she was smiling. She was lapping it up.I tried to get to her. I pushed through the crowd, but those bodyguards blocked my path like I was nobody. Like I was just another face in the crowd. I was her husband. I had every right to be on that stage with her.But she was gone before I could reach her. Disappeared like smoke.I searched everywhere. I called her phone. Straight to voicemail. I sent messages. Where are you? Are you okay? Please call me. Nothing. I paid the hotel staff to look for her. I checked the security footage myself. The cameras showed her walking on stage. After that, nothing. Like she had vanis

  • Two Can Play   Chapter 020

CELESTE Dominic stared at me, a mischievous smirk spreading across his lips. "Oohhhh. I'm curious." I turned my head toward Julian's house. Through the curtain of the living room window, I saw a shadow. A figure standing there, looking out. I could not make out who it was clearly, just the silhouette of someone watching the car. A male. I had a strong feeling it was Julian. I stared for a while. Then I turned away, focusing my attention on Dominic, who had not stopped looking at me. The heat in his gaze made my thighs clench together beneath the hem of my short dress. I leaned forward and unzipped his jeans. The sound of the zipper was loud in the quiet car. I reached inside his boxers and wrapped my hand around the base of his cock. He was already half-hard, but he swelled instantly in my grip, thickening, lengthening, his skin hot against my palm. "Fuck," he breathed, his head falling back against the headrest. I stroked him once, slowly, from base to tip, feeling eve

  • Two Can Play   Chapter 019

CELESTE I sat on the edge of the bed and stared at my phone. Julian had sent text messages. "Where are you, baby. I'm worried." "Please call me when you get this." "I miss you so much. You are the love of my life." "Please just let me know you are safe." I read them one by one and felt nothing except a mild, distant irritation, the way you feel about a noise that has been going on too long. I rolled my eyes and put the phone face down on the bed. Then I picked it back up and scrolled to my mother's name. She answered on the second ring. "Celeste." Her voice was warm and immediate, the voice she had used my entire life, the one that made me feel twelve years old in the best possible way. "My daughter. A millionaire. I always knew you had big dreams and I always knew you would fulfill them." I laughed. "Mom." "Don't Mom me. I am allowed to be proud. Your father is so proud too." A pause. "Where are you? I feel like I haven't seen your face in so long." "I know. I'm sorry.
