The low noise from the TV soon sang him to sleep. It was deep into the night when he opened his eyes again. The room was dark and the TV had gone off, and the storm outside had long calmed down. Jason raised his head and froze the next second when he realized he was sleeping on someone's lap. He was not alone. "Is sleeping beauty awake?" The man in the dark asked, his large frame filling up the couch. Jason looked up at a strong jawline and trembled. This stranger hand his arm around him. Adrenaline rushed through his veins, allowing him to struggle wildly in the stranger’s grip. But it made no difference. Jason had always prided himself to be a strong enough man. At 6 feet, despite his lean muscles, he intimidated a lot of men. But his strength could not escape the stranger's steel grip. He thought to scream. But the next second, the Stranger had a hand over his mouth. “If you promise not to scream, I will let you go. Can you do that?” he asked, and jason nodded quickly. “I will put a bullet in your little head if you make a fuss or run; You won’t do that right?” he asked again, and son froze at the realization that the man was armed. He nodded. “Now be good and go turn on the lights,” he said, letting go of Jason. Jason carefully got off him and walked backwards to the switch on the wall. He quickly turned the light on, illuminating the entire sitting room. As the lights snapped on, the view of a large man came into his sight. Jason could guess he was over 6 feet. His dress shirt clung to his large frame. He had tussled back hair that sat just below his shoulder. He leaned back on the couch fixing Jason a cold stare. Jason's eyes quickly found a gun resting on the side table beside him and he froze. "Who are you?" Jason asked. his eyes darted around the room looking to find where the man had entered from but could not find anything out of place. It was as though the man appeared out of thin air. “Sit,” he motioned to the couch beside him, and he hesitated under his icy stare. Jason knew better than to argue. He took a sit. "What do you want?" Jason asked. "Do I look so different from the past?" The man asked and Jason frowned. Was he implying that they knew each other? "You are Henry Steele's son, right?" The man asked and Jason frowned at the mention of his father. "I have nothing to do with him!" Jason quickly declared. "You are still his son. I heard you also became a lawyer. That is good. We both have an appointment in one hour," The stranger said. "I said I don't have anything to do with him. Why would I go anywhere with you? What did you want?" Jason asked. "A lawyer. A Lawyer named Steele. Your father may have disappeared, but his deals are still valid," the stranger said. It was clear this man knew him, but no matter how much he searched his memory, Jason came up empty. Jason did not think he would even be acquainted with someone like him, so why was he here? Did he know him because of his father? At the thought of his father, Jason frowned. "If my father had some business with you, it means you are his client. Being his son does not mean his clients automatically get transferred to me. That is not how the law works," Jason said with a frown. What ever this man wanted, he was determined to not do it. "That is how it works where we are going," the stranger said. "And where is that?" "You will know when you get there. As long as your name is Steele, you are qualified to represent me." "To do what?" Jason pressed. "Get my hands on some inheritance," the man answered. Hearing this, Jason sighed in relief slightly. As long as it was legal representation and not something illegal he was being forced to do, it was bareable. "I don't practice inheritance law. Corporate law is all I do," Jason said, trying his best to get out of the situation. "That will come in handy after we get that inheritance, so it is fine," the stranger said nonchalantly. No matter what Jason said, he had already made up his mind. "I..." Jason started to say, but a pair of cold eyes settled on him and he froze. "You go into your room and dress up. You need to look right," the stranger said, getting on his feet. It was clear he was done talking. Jason swallowed and got up too. He glanced at the door to his room and walked over only to notice the man was following him. "I will just be a minute," Jason said. "I have not time to deal with your funny business, Jason. You do not leave my sight," The stranger said and Jason opened the door and walked in. "I need to take a bath," Jason said. "Don't worry, princess. You smell amazing," the stranger said and Jason held back his anger. This man looked down on him. His tone and words all ticked Jason off. Jason walked over to his wardrobe as the man took a seat on his bed and took out his clothes. After a few seconds, he paused and looked back at him. With a gun on one hand the man's gaze locked unto Jason's form. Jason had changed beside other men several times without care. But having someone watch and a stranger at that, made him uncomfortable. "You want to watch?" He asked. "Is Little Jason shy?" The stranger asked, the tease in his tone only angered Jason more. He gritted his teeth and started to strip. The day of the Reynolds charity ball had arrived. Outside the Riverside Estate, Marcus Night stood in a nondescript van watching multiple screens displaying camera feeds from inside the event. Beside him sat Eric August, Henri Kingston, and Evan Steele, all focused intently on the video feeds."How many of your people are inside?" Eric asked, watching servers and caterers moving through the grand halls of the estate."Eighteen," Marcus replied. "Disguised as waiters, security personnel, and kitchen staff. They're positioned throughout the event."On the screens, guests were arriving in expensive cars. Men and women in formal attire, dripping with jewelry and power, made their way through the entrance. The cameras captured it all."This is incredible," Henri said, watching the video feeds switch between different angles. "The amount of wealth and power in that building right now is staggering.""That's why we need to be careful," Marcus cautioned. "These people aren't just rich. They'r
The video conference screen showed four faces arranged in boxes. Jessie sat in her home office with her phone propped up on the desk. Jason appeared from what looked like a bedroom. Kayla was in a car, driving. Leon appeared to be in some kind of office space."This has gotten completely out of control," Jessie said, her voice filled with frustration. "Between the government raids, the kidnappings, the arrests, and now Marcus holding Ernest Kent captive, I don't know how much worse things can get.""They can always get worse," Leon replied darkly. "That's the one guaranteed thing in this business.""I just want this to end," Kayla said from her car. "I want my life back to normal. I want to go to work without worrying that someone is going to come after me because of what my husband does."Jason nodded in agreement. "We're caught in the middle of something massive, and we have no control over it. We're just waiting for the next disaster to hit."The four friends had known each other f
Henri Kingston sat in his private office, watching his computer screen as it connected to a video conference call. On the screen, a woman in her fifties appeared, sitting at a desk in an official-looking office. She wore professional attire and had the demeanor of someone used to wielding authority. This was Lara Reeds, the secretary of the Ohio Canal Regulatory Body. She was powerful in her own right, controlling one of the most important waterways in the world."Mr. Kingston," Lara said with a polite but guarded smile. "I received your request to speak. I must say, I was surprised to hear from you.""The feeling is mutual, Ms. Reeds," Henri replied smoothly. "I appreciate you taking the time to meet with me on such short notice.""Your people mentioned it was urgent," Lara said. "What exactly can I do for you?"Henri leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled thoughtfully. "I have a situation that requires a very specific solution. A solution only you can provide.""I'm listenin
Old Madam Kent sat in her study, watching the news coverage of the government raids. Two days had passed since the warehouses were seized, and the public scandal showed no signs of dying down. And if that was true, then Marcus Night needed to be reminded that the Kent family was not an easy target.Ernest entered the study, looking exhausted. He had barely slept in two days, dealing with the fallout from the government investigation."Mother, the lawyers want to discuss plea agreements," Ernest said. "They think if we cooperate with the government—""No," Old Madam Kent interrupted sharply. "We will not cooperate. We wi
The news spread like wildfire across the city. Every television channel, every radio station, every newspaper was covering the same story: the Kent family, one of the oldest and most respected business dynasties, had been raided by federal agents. Drugs worth hundreds of millions of dollars had been seized from their warehouses. In coffee shops and office buildings, people gathered around screens to watch the breaking news. Social media exploded with commentary, speculation, and outrage."This is unbelievable," one news anchor said, staring at the camera with barely contained excitement. "The Kent family has been a pillar of this community for generations. Their businesses employ thousands of people. And now we're learning they may have been operating a massive drug trafficking operation."The screen cut to aerial footage of the warehouse raids. Federal agents in tactical gear could be seen carrying boxes of evidence out of buildings. Drug-sniffing dogs moved through the warehouses. A
Agent Miller and Rudder stared at Henry Steele seated waiting for them."You really are alive," Agent Rudder said."Mr Steele, you were a government informant before disappearing. As a lawyer, you should be aware that faking your death as an informant is a crime," Age t Cathy said."Because I am a lawyer, I know a voluntary informant is not bound by those rules, so don't try to scare me. Besides, are you sure you have time to be doing this?" Henry asked as he picked up his tablet form his desk and scrolled through the net."You wanted us to find you. You let us see you alive and well to draw us to search for you, Why?" Agent Miller asked."Well, I couldn't come to you, now could I?" Henry Steele said and handed the agents the tablet. They hesitated before agent Rudder stepped forward and took the tablet. It was news from a ship explosion. The Kent family's ship was found carrying cargo of drugs. The Kent family. He has heard of them. Rudder handed th tablet to Miller."I hear you are
