CHAPTER Sixty Nine:THE QUESTION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Lisa sat frozen on the couch, staring at Ken like he had just spoken a language she had never heard before.

Her mouth parted slightly, her brows drawn in disbelief as she whispered, “You said what?”

Ken swallowed hard and rubbed his palms together, his entire body tense. “Lisa… we have to get married. You and I.”

For a moment, Lisa felt her ears ring. She blinked rapidly, hoping she misheard him, but Ken’s eyes stayed fixed on hers worried, desperate, and shaking.

“Ken, you shouldn’t have mentioned my name.” Her voice rose a little, partly from shock and partly from frustration. “Why would you do that?”

Ken dragged in a shaky breath. “Lisa, I didn’t have any other option. Please… believe me.”

Lisa pushed herself off the couch slightly, her chest tight. “You had an option! You had several options. You didn’t have to drag me into this mess.”

“No,” Ken said, shaking his head stubbornly. “I didn’t. You are my only choice. And he beli

Chapter 75: Lines We Pretend Not to SeeLisa sat curled on one end of the couch, one leg crossed over the other, her phone balanced lightly in her hand as her thumb scrolled absentmindedly. The television was on, but she wasn’t really watching it. The sound filled the room more than the images did, a background noise meant to chase away silence rather than entertain her.She was halfway through a post when the front door opened.Ken walked in a few seconds later, his suit jacket slung casually over his shoulder, his tie already loosened. He looked tired but satisfied, the kind of tired that came with good news.“Hey,” he said, dropping his bag near the door.Lisa looked up and smiled. “Welcome back.”She shifted, placing the phone on her lap. Ken returned her smile as he walked toward the couch and sat down beside her.“Guess what,” he said, his tone already giving him away. She raised an eyebrow. “What?”“My dad has finally agreed to step down at the end of the month,” he said. “I’ll

Chapter seventy four: Conversations Over WineLater that evening, after Ken and Lisa had gone through the motions of celebrating their so-called marriage, Ken felt restless. The laughter earlier had felt forced, the smiles rehearsed. Once Lisa retired to her room, the house grew quiet, and the silence pressed heavily on his chest. He knew exactly what he needed: fresh air, familiar company, and a place where he didn’t have to pretend.Without thinking too much about it, he grabbed his car keys and headed out to meet Kunle at their favorite spot. The lounge was exactly how Ken remembered its dim lights, soft music humming in the background, and the familiar scent of grilled fish hanging in the air. This place had witnessed countless conversations between them, from wild dreams when they were younger to confessions they never shared with anyone else.Kunle was already there. He sat comfortably, relaxed like a man with nothing weighing down his mind. A full plate of grilled fish sat befo

Chapter Seventy Three: Pretend To FreedomLisa lay comfortably on one side of the couch in Ken’s sitting room, her legs tucked under her as the movie played softly on the large screen. She wasn’t really paying attention to it; her mind drifted in and out, catching only fragments of dialogue and scenes. The room was quiet, calm in a way that still felt strange to her. Married, yet not really married. Living together, yet pretending. Everything felt unreal. The door opened, and Ken walked in holding a bottle of wine and two glasses. He shut the door behind him with his foot, exhaled loudly as if releasing a long-held breath, and dropped into the couch beside her.Lisa turned to him slowly, one eyebrow raised.“What are we celebrating?” she asked, a small smile tugging at her lips.Ken leaned back, stretching his neck slightly. “We’re celebrating freedom,” he said. “Now that we’re married, we can do whatever we want.”Lisa chuckled softly. “Okay,” she said. “I guess we can drink to that.

Chapter Seventy Two:Heart to Heart MomentsFaith sat comfortably on Lisa’s couch, one hand resting on her small baby bump while the other lazily flipped through her phone. Lisa came out from the kitchen with two glasses of juice and dropped one gently in front of her friend before settling beside her.Faith sighed deeply, the kind of sigh that carried weight and tiredness. “Lisa, I’ve finally decided,” she said, rubbing her forehead. “I’m done checking Kunle’s phone. I’m done stressing myself. I think it’s the best thing for me and the baby.”Lisa took a slow sip from her juice, eyes softening as she listened. “I can imagine how hard that decision must have been for you,” she said softly.Faith nodded, staring at the glass for a moment. “You know I love my husband,” she murmured, her voice shaking slightly. “I don’t want anything to affect my child. Coming from a broken home really dealt with me, Lisa. I never want my child to grow up with that trauma.”Lisa’s expression softened even

CHAPTER Seventy one: A HOUSE BUILT ON PRETENCELisa stood in front of the mirror, her reflection staring back at her with the same confusion swirling inside her chest. Her brows were squeezed together, and she kept pressing her lips in and out, clearly battling with her thoughts. The weight of everything happening felt like a stone on her shoulders. She didn’t even hear Ken at first until he came behind her and gently held her by the arm.“Are you okay?” he asked softly.Lisa turned sharply, hissed, and stepped back as if his touch burned her.“How do you think your father will feel,” she asked, her voice laced with frustration, “if he finds out we are lying about this whole marriage thing?”Ken lifted both hands as if to calm her down. “He won’t find out. Believe me. Unless…” he paused and raised one brow, “you’re planning to tell him?”Lisa scoffed. “Why will I do that?”“Exactly,” Ken said quickly. “So he won’t find out. He believes us already, and that’s what matters.”Lisa placed

CHAPTER Seventy: NEWS THAT SHOOK THE NIGHTFaith and Lisa were in Lisa’s sitting room, both curled comfortably on the couch, laughing like two people who hadn’t shared joy in a long time. The evening felt soft and warm, the kind of moment that wrapped itself around the heart.Lisa lifted her cup of juice, her eyes shining as she looked at Faith.“Babe, I’m just… I’m honestly so happy for you,” she said, almost singing the words. “See how you’re glowing. My girl is glittering and shining like a Christmas light. Thank you for giving Kunle another chance to rewrite his wrongs. You don’t know how happy I am that my goddaughter is coming into a complete and peaceful home.”Faith chuckled shyly, covering her mouth with her palm. “Thank you, my love… for being more than a friend. You’re not just Lisa to me. You’re my soul sister. I’m so grateful for your love and your stubborn support.”Lisa pushed her shoulder playfully. “But that’s what sisters do now. We hold each other up and cover each
