Chapter 3

As Charlotte opened the door on her new home, she felt that familiarity again, ignoring it she ushered the removal men in, directing them with the boxes and furniture she had no idea where she would be putting it. Hours went by until she was finally able to have a good look around, with a cup of tea in hand, that ever-present familiarity and sadness creeping in. As she looked around her, she started to notice little things, nothing major but, things like the small holes in the walls were paintings and pictures used to be or the scent of a fragrance that was lingering in the house something she knew but couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.

As she wandered further around the house, she felt a lot more comfortable and excited that she had somewhere to call her own. The sense of belonging somewhere, something she hadn't felt since awakening from the coma that she'd been in for a few years according to the doctors. Charlotte hadn't remembered anything when she had awoken and starting from scratch was her best thought. No one had come to see her and no one seemed to know who she was, so she left the clinical walls, the doctors and nurses and began again.

Charlotte decided to leave the unpacking and sorting for another day and as it was only 2 pm she figured heading into the town for a look around was a great idea. Walking around the town was great, from quaint little shops selling about everything she could think of, boutiques selling beautiful high-end clothes to pubs that were more homely than anything else. She decided on going to a cafe, it was a lovely little place with white and little pink flowers on the walls, a glass case with all different kinds of cakes and treats. Dainty chairs and tables were all different kinds of people sat with their loved ones, friends or by themselves.

The lady behind the counter looked pretty, in her own sort of way. She was wearing a floaty summer dress with a beautiful floral design, her short blonde hair cut just below her jawline, she was talking to another customer while charlotte chose what she wanted and admired the place some more, she didn't even realise the guy in front of her or the shop keeper had stopped talking and were staring at her, she gave a glance around and so was the rest of the shop. Charlotte went red she hadn't noticed the women behind the counter had started to talk to her so she ignored the stares and hurried forward to the counter.

"Sorry, I was miles away admiring the place it’s beautiful," Charlotte said trying to justify why she had ignored the women. "Thank you, I do try to keep it nice and light in here. Can I get you anything?" The shop keeper said with certain awe in her voice. "Yes please, just a vanilla latte. Thank you"Charlotte said picking up on how quiet the room suddenly was. Linda or so it said on the badge she was wearing, stood eyeing the room from behind her counter and suddenly the room went back to its chatter.

Charlotte was not only confused but decided she wanted to get out of there, asking Linda for the drink to go she all but ran out of the cafe. Charlotte wasn't a celebrity or knew of any reason she should be getting stared at like that and it was overwhelming. She decided that was enough for one day and started her way back to her car to head home. The whole way back to her car she kept getting the same quiet stares, people stopping mid-way through sentences and hushed conversations that were clearly about her. With that, she ran back to her car not sure what to make of the townspeople and what all those stares were for.
