Chapter 42

Logan walked toward me until there was barely any space left between us. He bent down to my eye level and glared at me, his intense gaze burning into mine. I clenched my teeth together, trying not to react to his scent. As much as I hated him, he still smelled maddeningly good, and it took everything in me not to throw my arms around him like a fool.

“I will not repeat myself,” he said coldly. “Both of us are heading back to the pack right now. You’ll see the park doctor to patch you up, and then you’ll get ready for the annual Moon Goddess celebration and run.”

“That will not be happening,” I replied stubbornly, shaking my head. “I’m not going back with you. I’m not a member of your pack, and I see no reason why I should participate in your celebrations or your stupid run. Run along to your people and leave me alone. Is that so hard for you to do?”

I knew I was pushing my luck, standing there defiant and exhausted, but I didn’t care. Nothing, absolutely nothing would make me return

“Do you hear me?!” he barked.“Yeah, sure,” I muttered, picking myself up without looking at him. I turned away and started walking, feeling the heat of his glare burning into my back. I knew he didn’t expect me to stay silent. He expected me to argue. To fight. But I was too tired and uninterested for that. Before I could take another step, he grabbed me roughly by the arm and began dragging me back toward the pack.“If you’re going to reject me,” I said bitterly as soon as we stepped onto pack grounds, “at least tell me why.”He tossed a pair of shorts and a singlet at me, clearly not interested in answering. I caught the clothes, put them on but stood my ground. Maybe it was foolish. Maybe I was setting myself up to get hurt again. But I needed to know. I deserved to know.I already had my guesses. I was a rogue, an outsider, weak, but still, I wanted to hear it from him. Maybe it will make sense to me this time. “If you think I’m going to explain myself to you,” Logan said coldl

It was nighttime the next day, and most of my injuries had already healed. But the ones on my chest still looked red and painful. For a moment, I wished I hadn’t argued with Logan. If I had let him take me to the pack doctor, maybe he would’ve treated my wounds and I wouldn’t have scars. But because I was stubborn, I might have to live with these scars forever. My wolf was acting strange too.She didn’t speak to me at all. I tried talking to her several times, but she just shut me out. I could still feel her, though. She was restless, moving around like something was wrong. I didn’t know what it was, but I could tell something was definitely off. Later that night, Logan sent his Beta to get me from the cell. He led me to a part of the pack grounds I had never seen before. It was a big open space surrounded by trees. The moonlight was bright, and many pack members were already there, naked and waiting. I realized they were all there for the full moon run.“Take off your clothes.” Loga

After several painful minutes, the shift was complete. I was finally in my wolf form but something felt different.I looked down at my paws and froze. They weren’t the pure white color I was used to seeing. One was black, the other white. Confusion filled me.I stood up slowly, feeling taller and stronger than before. My senses were sharper too. I could smell food cooking in the pack kitchen even though it was far away and on low heat. I could see the waterfall from where I stood. I could hear the heavy breathing of every wolf around me.None of this had ever happened before.“Shift back to your human form!” Logan’s Alpha voice rang out, loud and clear. One by one, everyone shifted back except me.My wolf was in full control now, and she refused to shift. She looked around, searching for Logan, but we were surrounded by people.I heard their voices.“What a freak.”“I’ve never seen a wolf like that.”“How is she half white and black?”“Is that even possible?”“She must be cursed.”“Wh

Our bodies rolled across the ground as we snapped and growled at each other. Valerie’s wolf was ruthless, her teeth tearing into my flesh with violent rage. She wasn’t just fighting with me, she was trying to kill me also. But my wolf didn’t hold back either. She fought back fiercely, and this time, she was winning. This wasn’t my first fight with Valerie, but for once, I was glad my wolf could finally get back at her. She wasn’t the weak wolf I thought I had. Not anymore. My claws pinned Valerie down, and I sank my teeth into her neck, drawing blood fast. She howled in pain, struggling to break free, but my wolf held her down with strength that surprised me. Power poured out from her like a force I had never felt before. This isn’t the same wolf I’ve always known… She was stronger. Wilder. Something else entirely and at that moment, loved it.Valerie’s howls became weaker and slower. I could tell she was losing strength fast from the bite. But my wolf still wouldn’t let go.She w

“You are a disgrace.” Logan spat, his voice loud and cold. “A misfit to all wolves. “This,” he gestured toward me in disgust, “is a sign for me to start the rejection process fully.”My wolf froze.“You’ll feel the bond fade little by little.” he continued, disgust dripping from every word. “You’ll live in agony, in torment, every single day. And I hope it drives you insane. I hope it kills you. You are a mistake of a mate, and you’ll always be.”Then he turned away.He walked to Valerie, gently helping her up and pulling her close to his side. She looked weak and pale, her body covered in cuts, and her neck healing slowly.“Valerie will be my mate,” he shouted, locking eyes with my wolf again. “She will be the Luna of this pack. By the next full moon, we’ll be fully mated.”My wolf whimpered and paced inside my mind. She was spiraling, overwhelmed with emotions that I couldn’t control. I tried to reach out to her, to calm her down but she wouldn’t let me in.She dropped her head and

I didn’t waste a second. My legs moved before my mind could catch up, and I bolted. I didn’t know what my wolf saw or what might have triggered her sudden urgencybut I didn’t question it. I just ran. This had become a vicious cycle, all too familiar. How many times would I keep running from the same person? When would it finally end? When do I get to stop escaping and start living? I was tired, tired of running, tired of being hunted, tired of having nowhere to call home. I just wanted peace. A place of my own. A moment to breathe. Then, bam.A body slammed into mine, and I skidded across the ground. But I caught myself before falling flat, thanks to my wolf. She was getting stronger again and faster. More alert too. “Thank you.” I whispered in my mind and kept going.I turned back briefly, and my breath caught in my throat. Logan.“Where the hell do you think you’re going?” he growled, muscles flexing, eyes wild.I blinked at him, genuinely confused. “Are you okay? Do you have amn

“Shift!” Logan barked, his voice full of command and my wolf obeyed instantly.“Why did you do that?” I snapped at her, angry that she gave in so easily. But she only whimpered in response.I rolled my eyes at her weakness, but I couldn’t blame her. She was still trying to heal and still learning how to live with being rejected.“Let go of me!” I snapped at Logan. He had stopped choking me, but his hand was still wrapped around my neck, holding me up like I weighed nothing. It was uncomfortable, painful even, and I needed him to let me down.“You do nothing without my permission,” he growled, his eyes burning with fury. “You are mine! I own you, and you will obey every order I give you!”“I’m not yours!” I screamed back, my voice filled with rage. “Stop being delusional, you fucking freak! We’re not mates anymore! You rejected me or you can’t remember? It’s over. Your mate is back at your pack, so go run to her and leave me the hell alone!”Spit flew from my mouth as I shouted, every

I was conscious, but I couldn’t move. No matter how hard I tried, my body wouldn’t respond. Even my wolf was silent, still and unresponsive.I felt everything, though. I knew when we reached the pack grounds. I knew when Logan carried me into his quarters, then into his room. I felt the cold bite of heavy chains as he tied me to his bedpost. Typical Logan. This was exactly what he did the last time before I escaped.I also heard the door slam shut as he left. For a while, I just laid there, completely still. I didn’t think about anything. My mind was blank and numb. I didn’t know how long I stayed like that before I eventually drifted off to sleep.I jolted awake to the sound of voices. Loud, angry , and close.I blinked and looked around, confused at first. The voices were coming from across the room. Logan and Valerie were arguing. I closed my eyes again, shaking my head before shifting into a more comfortable position. The fuzziness in my head was gone. I didn’t feel dizzy anymore

Instead of fear, I felt something else. My eyes went to his face, his body. He looked too good, too powerful and I felt my cheeks heat up.What the hell was wrong with me? This man could kill me, infact, it looks like he wants to kill me and I was checking him out? I must be crazy. “Why don’t you fear me?” he asked, voice low and dangerous. “Is that another power of yours? No one talks back to the Lycan King!”I rolled my eyes. “It’s not like I’m not scared of you. I just… I don’t know. I’ve spent most of my life afraid of everything. Hiding and begging. As a rogue, that’s the lifestyle. Maybe I’m broken or maybe I’ve lost my mind. Who knows?”“I heard the mate bond can mess with someone when they’re away from their mate. Maybe that’s what’s happening to me.”I laughed bitterly, sounding a little crazy.“I am to be feared!” he growled. “You have to fear me!”Then, without touching me, he raised me into the air and slammed me against the headboard. Pain shot through my back, and I let

This place was messed up. How the hell did a bathroom suddenly turn into a room?I stood in shock, staring at the door I had just opened. I was sure Simeon told me the bathroom was right through here. He said all I needed to do was open the connecting door and yet… this was the only door in the room.I was confused, then got irritated.I had looked forward to that bath. I desperately needed it, glad I could finally get all the dirt off my body but now this jerk standing in front of me had ruined everything.“I don’t know what you’re doing here or what you’re looking for, but you just interrupted me and I need to take my bath. It is very important to me. So whatever you’ve done to this room, you better fix it. Because I heard this was supposed to be a bathroom.”He didn’t budge. Just stared at me with that unreadable look before speaking, voice gruff and cold. “We need to talk. Now.”I let out a dry laugh. “No, no, no. Absolutely not. We’re not talking. I’m going to bathe, I’m going t

“By the way, Simeon…” I said, clearing my throat. “I won’t be staying here long. I have plans to return to where I was before the Lycan King kidnapped me.”“I’d rather call it saving your life, not kidnapping,” he responded calmly. “And besides, why would you want to return to a pack that treated you horribly and a mate who rejected you? Why not stay here, where you’ll be safe and treated well?”I stopped walking, caught off guard by his words. How did he know that? And why did he speak like someone much older than his age? Before I could even ask, he opened yet another door, this one leading to a long hallway.“And yes, before you ask,” he said, glancing back at me with a knowing look, “everyone already knows what happened. News spreads really fast around here. You really can’t hide things in this place.”“Everyone? What do you mean by everyone?” I asked, narrowing my eyes. “There are people in this place? How come I haven’t seen any?”Simeon let out a small laugh. “There’s more to t

Someone was shaking me.I swatted the person’s arm away, annoyed that my sleep was being disturbed, but they were persistent, continuing to jostle me with light taps.“I just want to sleep,” I mumbled, frowning. “Leave me alone.”“You need to wake up, miss. It’s already getting dark,” a small voice responded, still tapping my arm. That definitely wasn’t the voice of the Lycan King.I opened my eyes slowly and sat up, rubbing the sleep from them. A petite boy stood before me, staring with wide, curious eyes that looked too big for his face but from his soft features, I could tell he was still quite young.Who was he? How did he get in here? “Sleeping on the floor for the rest of the night isn’t the best idea,” he said, offering a gentle smile. “It gets really cold here at night.”I returned the smile weakly, rubbing the back of my neck, suddenly aware of how disheveled I must’ve looked. I had been so exhausted from everything that had happened earlier, I didn’t even realize when I’d d

What was happening?I turned my head slowly toward the Lycan King.He was staring at me, his eyes pitch black. Was he doing this? Was he controlling me again? And then, pain. Sharp, excruciating pain. That’s what I felt. It felt like something was tearing my wolf away from my body, like we were being forcefully separated. My wolf and I howled together, screaming in unison, both terrified. The pain lasted about a minute—one long, torturous minute of shaking, screaming, and burning from the inside out.And then I collapsed. When I opened my eyes, I wasn’t inside my wolf. I was staring at her.She was standing in front of me, her eyes filled with pain and confusion, mirroring mine. Was I… dead? How could she be here, separate from me when I hadn’t even shifted? She stepped closer and rubbed her face gently against my body, purring softly.I reached out and ran my hands through her fur. She was beautiful.Seeing her like this from this perspective took my breath away. I’d never seen any

I took a step back, shaking my head. What the Lycan King just said didn’t make any sense. Was he trying to mess with me? How could our wolves have the same fur color? That’s only supposed to happen with mates and even then, it’s not always identical. I’ve never heard of mates having the same fur color. All this time, I thought the black that suddenly appeared on half of my wolf’s body came from Logan. His wolf is black, after all, so it made sense. But now the Lycan King is saying something completely different, something that just doesn’t add up.“So you’re saying you shifted once and were a white wolf, and then you shifted again and suddenly turned black and white? Are you trying to mess with me? Let me make it clear to you. I’m not in the mood for your games.” he asked, his voice rising with anger.“I should be the one asking questions right now,” I hissed back. “Because it seems like you know more about me than I do. How do you even know what my wolf looks like?”“Because that’s

Suddenly, the air around me changed. A force lifted me off the ground and threw me out of the room. The door slammed behind me, and I landed hard on my butt.Did he really just kick me out like that?I stood up fast and went to the door, grabbing the handle but the moment I touched it, a sharp jolt of electricity shot through my arm. I cried out, fell to the floor, and shook from the shock.“You fucker!” I shouted once I could talk again. “Just because you have powers doesn’t mean you can use them however you want! Screw you!”The door burst open, and he came out looking furious. He grabbed my shirt and pulled me up, shaking me.“I could kill you right now,” he said through gritted teeth. “So you better keep that mouth of yours shut. You don’t know what I’m capable of so don’t test me.”I knew I should be scared but all I could do was stare at him.He was… beautiful. Too beautiful. His eyes were sharp, his face perfect, and when he pulled me closer, I forgot how to breathe. Our faces

The Lycan King picked up his pace, and within seconds, it felt like we were gliding through the air. Floating fast and smooth. I should have asked questions or just said something but I couldn’t. My body felt weak and my mind was heavy. I should have been relieved and happy that he took me away from that hellhole. But all I felt was… emptiness, sadness and embarrassment. Why did I have to act like that? Why did I scream and beg right in front of him after putting up such a strong front? I had told him I’d never go with him, and now here I was… in his arms, heading to God-knows-where without a single fight.“You can let go of my shirt before you rip it to shreds,” he said, voice low and rumbling from his chest.I flinched.“Sorry,” I muttered, loosening my clenched fist. I hadn’t realized I was gripping his clothes that hard. The fabric beneath my hand was already torn.“You can put me down,” I said quietly, trying to shift away. “I can walk.”“I’m not sure either of us wants that,”

The Lycan King lifted me effortlessly back into his arms, staring down at me as if waiting for some kind of apology or a thank you. I gave him neither. I crossed my arms tightly over my chest and turned my face away. I had a thousand things to say but I’d rather stay silent.“Exactly what I thought,” he muttered after a pause. He turned to leave, carrying me like a ragdoll, when a familiar voice filled the air.“Stop right there!” Logan yelled. “You know the rules,” he barked, stepping forward. “You can’t just take a pack member without the Alpha’s permission. And also, she’s not just anyone, she’s my true mate. You can’t separate us. She belongs to me, and I won’t let you walk away with her!”His voice shook, but whether it was from fear or anger, I couldn’t tell and it wasn’t like I did care.Instead, I laughed.A bitter, broken, pained laugh that echoed through the field and made heads turn. Everyone stared like I’d finally lost my mind.“Shut up, you lying bastard!” I snapped, n
