The gunshots continued, echoing, breaking through the silence of the night that had previously been almost soundless. People took shelter behind their house windows, caught between fear and curiosity.

When I looked back, Jack was taking cover behind the car with Harry. Both looked breathless, their faces covered in sweat and dust. Jack glanced at me, his eyes conveying the same anxiety I felt.

“Hanna, run to that car.” David nodded toward Jack’s red car with his chin.

“What if I get shot?”

“I’ll protect you. You just need to run.”

I took a deep breath, trying to calm the trembling in my legs. My heart was pounding hard, as if it could explode at any moment. David moved in front of me, his body slightly bent, his pistol raised toward the building across the street.

“Now!” he shouted.

Without thinking, I dashed forward. Every step felt like cutting through heavy air. The sound of gunfire grew louder, as if accompanying each pounding step I took on the asphalt. In the corner of my eye,

  • Unravelling The Billionaire's Mask   The Package #3

I woke up from my sleep. Sunlight hadn’t fully broken through the curtains, just a streak of orange light slowly crept across the bedroom wall, as if reluctant to wake me too soon. My breath was still heavy, as if part of me was left behind in an unfinished dream. For a few seconds, I just lay there, staring at the pale ceiling, listening to the ticking of the clock that felt too loud. I sat up slowly, the blanket slipping off my shoulder, my bare feet touching the cold floor.Last night, David was still here, sitting on the bed with me, and now and then, his fingers holding mine felt like the only real thing in the midst of all this chaos. But when I woke up, he was gone. The space beside me on the bed was empty, only a faint crease in the mattress hinted that he had ever been there.Where did he go?With thoughts of David filling my mind, I decided to step out of the room, looking for any sign he might’ve left behind. When I opened the door, I saw David slumped on the couch. His bod

  • Unravelling The Billionaire's Mask   Surrender

I sat silently on the hospital bed with white sheets, in a room that was bright but also cold. My hair was wet from the rain, sticking messily to my temples and neck. My clothes were crumpled and damp, the thin jacket hanging open, revealing faint water stains on my shirt.I stared straight at the pale wall, as if trying to separate myself from the commotion around me. Outside the half-open door, shadows of police officers moved back and forth. Muffled conversations drifted in. I knew they would stay until I told the truth.Harry entered, then stood beside me. “How are you feeling?”I didn’t look at him. My voice came out low and dull. “I am fine.”My hands were still trembling. I tried to calm them by clutching the cold edge of the blanket, but my fingers kept shaking, as if they had their own memory, of the gunshot, and... of David.“I don’t want to pressure you, but-,”“Where is Jack?” I cut him off.“He’s safe,” he said flatly. His eyes were fixed on me, deeply curious. Then he pu

Jack’s car stopped right in front of my apartment building. The engine hummed softly, the wipers squeaked gently as they cleared the windshield battered by heavy rain. Beyond the glass, the street looked blurry. City lights reflected in puddles, creating shimmering shadows on the sidewalk.“Don’t tell anyone about the photo you found.”Jack clicked his tongue, looking confused and frustrated. “I don’t know what you’re looking for. I don’t even know what you’re planning. You suddenly slept with a criminal, and I only just found out you know that detective like you’ve been friends for a thousand years.”“Jack, I know you’re confused. But this is not the time to answer all those questions. I just want you not to tell anyone what happened. I&r

Jack pressed the light switch, but the lamp didn’t turn on. Meanwhile, I fumbled in my bag for the flashlight in the suffocating darkness. The only thing I could sense as we entered was the damp smell of the old building.I switched on the flashlight. A small circular beam pierced the thick darkness, revealing dust dancing in the air. I stepped forward carefully, my shoes creaking on the wooden floor that hadn’t been touched for years.“Hanna, what about me?” Jack touched my shoulder.“I only have one flashlight.”I walked on, ignoring Jack. Behind me, I heard the click of his phone. He had turned on his phone’s flashlight. The dim light flickered, not as strong as mine, but enough to cast shifting shadows on the walls.

“That is crazy,” Jack said right after David left the room.“GUN, Hanna, Gun!” he said while mimicking someone shooting with his hands, his eyes wide open, a mix of amazement and anxiety.Without waiting for an answer, Jack grabbed his phone and hurriedly started typing a message.“What are you doing?”“Sending a message to Mr. Bobby!”“For what?”“I’m going to publish an article about him, and be a source as well.” Jack replied without looking away from his phone screen.“Don’t be crazy,” Hanna approached, trying to snatch his phone.“Why? I saw him myself carrying a pistol and aiming it right at me.”“No, no way, Jack. You can’t do that.”Jack didn’t try to take his phone back from me. He just stared sharply, as if reading my mind."I won’t write about what I saw today. Including writing that you slept with him.” His tone was soft but piercing, making me feel guilty. “Give me back my phone.”I sighed. “Jack, I beg you, don’t ruin my plan.”Jack fell silent, as if weighing his options
