Unreciprocated Love

At four in the morning, Anna awoke to a silent hospital room, empty of any presence.

Instinctively, she clutched her stomach. It was flat, and her heart felt as if it was being sliced apart.

The baby was gone.

Tears streamed down her cheeks, soaking into the pillow as she wept quietly in the dark.

She didn't know how long she cried, but eventually she wiped her tears, propped herself up with one hand on the bed, the other on her stomach, and slowly sat up.

The rain continued outside, masking the sound of her movements but not the sudden conversation that drifted in from outside.

A woman's voice came through: "Anna's baby is gone, and she's hurt. The doctor said she might not be able to have children again. I... I didn't mean for this to happen..."

The familiar voice sent a shock through serena's heart.

It was her?!

"Don't worry about her."

The man's deep, cold voice pierced Anna's heart with pain.

It was her husband, Gerald.

Anna bit her trembling lip, wanting to rush out and confront them, to demand why they were so cruel!

She had received a call from that woman, which led her to drive out in the storm, resulting in the accident. The baby was lost, and she might never have another chance, yet her husband said not to worry about her!

"Are you going to stay with her?" the woman outside asked cautiously.

The man was silent for a moment.

Anna's heart was in her throat, clinging to a silver of hope that he would say what she longed to hear...

"No, just arrange for a nurse to watch her."

His cold response was like a bucket of ice water poured over Anna.

Then came the sound of footsteps walking away without a hint of hesitation.

Anna bit her lip until it bled, the salty taste mingling with bitterness.

Tears flowed uncontrollably as her chest heaved. Suddenly, in the quiet darkness, she burst into laughter.

"Hahaha!"

It was all so ironic, so tragic!

Seven years of marriage, Gerald had never shown her a moment of love. All his tenderness belonged to another woman.

Finally pregnant, Anna thought their relationship might improve. But she never expected that the little life she cherished so much meant to Gerald. He was truly ruthless, both to her and the unborn child!

A wave of stabbing pain hit her heart, mixed with exhaustion and abdominal pain. Her vision went dark, and Anna fainted.

"Anna, Anna? wake up.. "

Anna opened her eyes, squinting against the harsh light. Once her eyes adjusted, she saw the room was filled with people. Doctors, nurses,her mother in-law, and Gerald.

Gerald was still wearing the same white shirt blue shirt from the day before. He looked tired, but his gaze was deep and cold as he looked at her.

"Anna, you're finally awake!Doctor, come quickly!"

Mrs. Davis, Alice, stood by the bed, her eyes red with tears.

The doctor hurried over to examine Anna. After a thorough check, he said, "The she needs rest. There are no other symptoms for. we will do a full examination in few days."

Mrs. Davis wioed her tears and nodded in relief as the doctors left the room.

With no outsiders present, Anna looked at Gerard. Remembering the words she heard last night, her already numb heart ached again.

"Mom..."

She shifted her gaze from Gerald to her mother in-law, the one person in the horn family who treated her the best since Grandpa Davis passed away.

"I'm here, Anna. what do you need? just tell me, and i will make sure you have it, "Mrs. Davis said, her voice choked with emotion.

Anna forced a smile. Mrs. Horn had always treated her like her own daughter, even better than she treated Gerald.

She wished things could be better between her and Gerald, but...

Anna clenched her fists.

"Mom, I want a divorce."
