05. Brewing A Storm!

The climb was just a single climb but it felt like she had climbed forever. Her face was covered in sweat and she had begun zipping down the zip of her heavy gown.

Her eyes blinked numerous number of times as sweat drops re shaped her eyelids. At that moment, she began to plead with her creator for her to get to her room quickly so she could get out of the heavy gown and step into a cold bath.

“How long more do I have to walk before getting to my room?” She found herself asking.

“Not too long.” The one who walked beside her replied and she groaned aloud. That was a word to tell her that there was more than a long way to go for her before she could reach her room. When she looked at the servants that were assigned to her, she shook her head.

“No wonder they are so tiny.” She muttered to herself and kept following them. The maids looked trustworthy but then she still needed to be alert. She couldn’t trust them easily even if she was in desperate need of allies in that house.

Yes! On a mission such as hers, required that she made enough trust worthy allies in that family, so the plan could go smoothly. The two in front of her, were the ones she was going to be seeing more often. She needed to bond with them and make them her allies, but as usual, she couldn’t think of trusting them immediately because she was very much skeptical of her surroundings.

“I see why Master Ramon chose to marry you. You are very charming and you look a lot like our first Mistress.” One of the maids said and the other nodded in agreement.

“She’s so right. You look so much like her that we had to realize that you are actually her sister.”

“You see, Miss Violet. Master Ramon, after the death of his wife, your sister, he decided not to remarry. It was a painful shock to the whole family that she died and a whole mystery.”

“So is that why your master’s family came but a week later to inform us of her demise?” Violet asked them ad they looked at each other before nodding.

“No one was willing to go to your hometown. They just weren’t prepared for whatever was going to happen. They were mixed with feelings of fear and sadness that summed up to total confusion. Well, Ma’am Ella opted to go but the Master refused.”

“Master Ramon thought he could find out the truth behind her death but he found none.”

“So he locked himself up, calling himself a bad husband and family head.”

“Yes! He believed that his incompetence led to her death and his incompetence helped in not finding the culprits.”

“He really had a thing for her, my late sister.”

“I believe you meant ‘love’ Ma’am Violet.” The maid air-quoted the love and Violet hissed rolling off her eyes.

She never believed in love, not for a single second. However, she loved Connor, a sharp contrast of her ideologies on love. But then, it could still be that she just liked him.

“He did love her very much. Even though they just got married when they barely knew themselves, he loved her very much and took care of her.” Violet just stared at them unbelieving of a single word that came out of their mouths. Even if she was to believe it, she saw no need in them telling her about her husband’s first marriage to her sister.

Yes, another reason why she had to marry Ramon Fridling is because he was married to her sister before. Her elder sister got married into the family five years ago and then it happened years later, about three years ago that her sister died. The thoughts of her sister’s death filled her heart with so much sadness.

She didn’t get to see her sister only to welcome the death body of her sister one cold morning. Pain was the only thing you could tell from her face that very day. Her heart was heavy after that very fateful day. No one in the family could smile, but her in laws too were shaken by the death. She had left a child behind; a child not up to five years old. She didn’t even get to enjoy her marriage as she was supposed to, yet she died. She is in the grave, unable to watch her child grow.

Ramon Fridling was the only thing in her mind, Violet was hell bent on killing him, it was another mission of hers, to kill Ramon Fridling because he was the reason why Scarlet died. If Scarlet didn’t marry him, she was going to be alive today, but she isn’t.

“I must say, it took him a lot to remarry, especially you since you are the first wife’s sister. But I know it is for the good of Clara. The poor girl needs a new mommy and one who will just be like her mom to her. He did well and I know very soon, you both will love each other.” The maid said again and as she mentioned the love part, Violet began to cough violently.

She wanted to say ‘IN YOUR DREAMS’ but couldn’t muster the courage to do so. Besides, the ladies in front of her were much more older than her, even though they were such beauties and her maids, she didn’t want to be disrespectful to them.

Meanwhile, Aiyana and Marys, the maids Ramon got for Violet looked at each other with questioning eyes. They were mature women whose services were required at intervals. From the rumours they heard about Violet, they expected her to be very harsh towards them. In fact, they were prepared for the outcome of her getting to pour insults on them. They were more than ready to hear her shower them with insults. From the rumours, Violet was a rude lady who didn’t respect her servants, but treat them as trash.

The Violet with them was quite different from the rumours. She was a little polite even though she was still somehow rude, but she didn’t express it the way the rumours claimed she would. Rather she treated them like her elders, respecting them and just letting them to talk about her sister without interfering.

‘Maybe, she is brewing a storm for us.’ Aiyana thought and just kept walking till they reached a certain door.

“This will be your room.” Aiyana told Violet who gasped for a infinitieth time in that evening.
