Chapter 5: Supernaturals

Mariette P.O.V

I walked into the house, still completely pissed off by what just happened in the forest. I had so many questions running through my head that still remained completely unanswered to me. I didn't know what to think of the entire situation. I only knew two things that were certain to me - The three of them weren't humans, and nor were they vampires. If they were vampires, I would have picked up on it immediately, and they didn't have the same scent that humans had. So, the question still remained to me, what species were they?

I ran up to my room to quickly take a shower before I had to head on out to school. I knew that if I didn't hurry, I would likely miss breakfast and hell have mercy on me if I missed breakfast. The rule in the house was always that if I missed breakfast, I would most definitely not be able to take lunch to school. No breakfast always meant no lunch. Apparently, that was some sort of way for my father to discipline me. I shook my head as the warm steam of the shower brought me back to reality. I got in under the warm jets, allowing the warm water to cascade down my shoulders.

I had no idea whether I should ask my parents about them. Did my parents even know that there were other supernaturals beside us? Were the myths and tales about werewolves, warlocks, and witches, not myths, but reality? I didn't even know if I would likely place their lives in danger if I had asked my parents about them. Surely, there were reasons why we were told that we were the only supernaturals still alive. I quickly finished up in the shower and got dressed for school, just in time to hear my mother call out that breakfast was ready. I quickly got my school bag and ran downstairs. I threw my schoolbag on the couch before heading over to the kitchen.

I knew I would most likely suffer the bombardment of questions by my mother about my destined. I have been dodging her for way too long and I knew that I wouldn't be able to keep this up for any longer. I sat down just in time as my mother placed my plate filled with breakfast down in front of me. I smiled up at her before I picked up my fork and started eating away. There was an awkward silence in the kitchen, telling me that my mother and father most likely had another fight. They always fought and I didn't have any idea why they were still together if the fought all the time.

I sat there, picking at my food, lost in thought as the silence made my mind go wild. Ever since I met them, I have been wondering about the existence of other supernatural species in the world. The idea had been gnawing at me non-stop, and I couldn't shake it off. I looked up at my parents, who were eating their meal in awkward silence, and took a deep breath. It was time to ask the question that had been on my mind for so long.

"Mom, Dad, can I ask you something?" I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I b rought my eyes up as I stared back at my parents. My parents looked up at me, their expressions curious, yet a little worried. "Of course, sweetheard," my mother said, placing her fork down on the plate and putting her hand on mine. I gave her a small smile. "What is it?" my father asked, trying to get down to the point.

I took a deep breath before continuing, mentally preparing myself for what was about to come and what answers I would receive. For a split second, I contemplated on not asking them, I didn't know what the consequences of my question would be. "Are there other supernatural species out there, like us? I know what we have been told all our lives, but I need to know for sure ... are there any supernaturals out there?" I asked, not even noticing that I have been holding my breath. My parents exchanged a knowing look, and my father let out a deep sigh.

"Yes ... there are other supernatural species out there" said, his voice serious, but the look in his eyes screamed that he was worried about the treason behind me asking this question. "But why do you ask?" my father asked me. I looked between him and my mother, fully knowing that I was likely giving away the fact that I met my destineds, and the fact that there were other supernaturals in my life. I knew that it would worry my parents and I didn't want them to feel like I was in some sort of danger. No ... Mariette, rather keep this little piece of information to yourself! I repeated in my head, trying to convince myself. If I believed it, it would sound a bit more convincing when I told my parents.

"I've just been curious," I said, trying to sound nonchalant, tucking a stray strand of hair behind my ear. "I mean, we're not the only ones, right?" I said, trying to mask up my nervousness. My parents exchanged another look, and my mother spoke up this time. "No, we're not the only ones," she said, her voice gentle. It looked like she started to believe what I was telling them. Good, at least I knew now that there are others out there and that I needed to do my homework to try and figure out what they were. "There are others out there, like werewolves, witches, and even demons." my father said before placing his knife and fork down on the plate.

I could tell the entire conversation was starting to make him even more uncomfortable. This was likely not a topic that he wanted to talk about and I could definitely tell. "Now, are your things ready for school? I will take you in today, you dont have to worry about taking the bus. I have some things to settle at the town hall anyway" my father said, dismissing the conversations. I looked over at my mother, trying to figure out why my father was acting the way that he was. There had to be a reason behind all of this. My mother just shook her head and gave me a look that said: "Shut up and do as you are told or else your father would likely freak out".

I just sighed and placed down my fork even though I knew that I was still super hungry. I gave my mom a kiss on the cheek before walking over to the couch to get my school bag. "Oh, honey! When you come home from school, we're going to the mall! You still need to tell me about your destined!" my mother shouted from the kitchen.

Oh, goddess please have mercy on me!!
