Chapter 2: Called out

Mariette P.O.V

I was staring at Mrs. Kristen busy explaining some or other equations about trigonometry, but I couldn't stop my mind from drifting to those three I saw this morning. I struggled to place their scents. They weren't vampires, nor were they humans. I felt incredibly confused and most of all, I couldn't understand how three men could look so damn fine! I just sighed as I looked down at my page. I noticed that I unknowingly wrote down his name. I wrote down Aries in my book.

"Mariette, what is x?" Mrs. Kristen asked me, quickly snapping me out of my sinful thoughts. I quickly tried to scan through all of the contents that she had written on the board, trying to figure out where the hell we were in the sum. I knew that there were two other unknown values that we still needed to get. "I, uhhh, well ... x is ..." I started off. All of the other kids in the class turned around and stared at me. I saw some of them snicker and I knew that I was done for and this was most likely the most embarrassing moment in my entire life. Mrs. Kristen just looked on at me with the ruler and chalk in her hand.

I sighed before looking back down at my papers. "I don't know, ma'am" I honestly admitted and I heard all of the other kids in the start to giggle and laugh at me. I hated this part and inwardly I cursed Aries and his two other doubles for making me loose all of my attention in class. I was never like this. I was usually the one who thought straight and rationally. "That's what I thought. Now, if you would like to stay on in my class for the rest of the semester, I would suggest that you pay attention in the class! Eyes front everyone!" Mrs. Kristen scolded everyone. Ugghhhh! Whatever.

I got home and it was pretty late, I didn't want to tell my mother about Aries and his brothers, even though I knew that she would likely start firing question after question the moment she sees me. I quickly peeked inside the kitchen and saw that my dad was busy doing paperwork and my mother was nowhere in sight ... thankfully!

“Mariette?”my father suddenly asked, making me stop dead on in my tracks. I took a few deepbreaths, not actually wanting to make conversation because I knew that the longr I would stay in the kitchen, the easier it would be for my mother to eventually corner me about what she saw in her dreams. Nonetheless, I spun around on my heels and turned back to the kitchen.

“Yes, pappa?” I said, smiling up at him. He put down the papers and took off his glasses. He leaned back in his chair and had the signature look on his face. The look which meant that he wanted to ask me something, but he was unsure of how to go about it all. I smiled at him patiently waiting for him to ask whatever it was that he wanted to ask me. “Your teacher phoned me today …” my father started off. Shit! Now, I knew that I was definitely in trouble. Mrs. Kristen always loved to exagertate everything when she phoned parents.

However, me being one of her star students, meant that she usually never phoned my parents unless it was to talk about my grades and how proud she was that she was my teacher. “About what?” I asked him, trying to look confident and not knowing what she actually phoned him about. “I know about your behavior in class. You know, it is completely unacceptable!” my father scolded. I just sighed and hung my head low in defeat, trying to show him how sorry I was. “I know, pappa. I really am sorry about it. My attention just got snatched away for a few moments by the things that mamma said this morning. It just made everything a little harder and yeah, when she asked me to answer the equation and I couldn’t … she already let me have it in class and I have learned my lesson!” I said to my father, hoping that by admitting to everything, which somehow Get Me Out of trouble with my father

“Mariette … just … just don't let it happen again please I'm begging you if your mother comes to hear of this … I even dread to think of what she would do or say!” my father said to me, giving me a stern look and going back to his paperwork.

I knew that I had narrowly dodged a bullet with my father and I also knew that if I was staying here any longer my mother would surely come into the kitchen. “Pappa, can I please be excused I asked him he just nodded his head and gave me a wave of his hand I quickly ran up the stairs and to my room. I quickly shut the door behind me and walked over to the bathroom needing to run myself a quick bath and just let off some steam.

To not was probably the worst night for me I have ever had since hearing about getting you distant when you get older I never really gave much thought to a distant I  never thought that I would even be feeling this way but I think what accepted me the most was the fact that I didn't know from what species or what kind they were one thing I knew for sure was that they were definitely not vampires nor were they humans I just sighed and turned on my side again I kept on tossing and turning through the night and I got I rolled over on my back and quickly looking over at my alarm clock I already saw that it was 4:00 o'clock in the morning I knew that I would most probably have to get up for school in the next hour or so … so sleeping would definitely be out of the question.

I decided to rather quickly go and get showered before taking off on a morning run around the smaller parts of the forests that were close to our house. I knew my father wouldn't complain too much as he always said that I needed to get out a little bit more. I never really was one to have friends, therefore, I chose to spend my life on my own, stuck in my room and probably reading a book or doing something academical. Maybe that was why I was always first in class with about everything. I quickly got dressed after my shower and put on my running shoes. I tied my hair up in a ponytail and quickly grabbed the jacket as I knew the air was a bit nippy.

I zipped up my jacket and made my way downstairs. I knew that everyone was still in their rooms and I was thankful for that, it meant that I was yet again able to dodge my mother for a bit. I wrote down a quick note for my father, just in case he comes downstairs a bit earlier than what he usually does. I took the magnet and stuck it on the fridge. I walked out and slowly closed the door behind me. I turned around and stared at the forest ahead of me. The mist was thick in the air and I knew that it was going to be a tricky morning on the trail.

I was about ten minutes into my jog when I decided to take a small break and take a sip of water. I saw an opening in between all the trees. The grass looked so lushesly green that I instantly fell in love with it. I admired that small patch of grass and I couldn’t quite get it how on earth have I never seen this piece before. I walked over to it and in true fashion and my style, I fell down flat on my ass, spread my legs out straight and just leaned back on my one arm while I sipped on my water. I allowed the morning sun to shine right onto my face. This was one thing I hated about being a vampire, I couldn’t fully admire the sun just like any other normal human being could.

I heard someone clear their throat behind me and I almost jumped straight out of my skin at the sound. I instantly jumped up and turned around. I looked around, trying to see who made that sound. I looked around but only saw the trees. It wasn’t until I saw something move from the corner of my eyes that I saw them standing there, arms crossed around their chests and a smirk plastered straight across those handsome, knee weakening faces of theirs.
