Maria's POV

I didn't know why I ran away, I was too overwhelmed with everything going on and soon enough, I was beginning to feel that my chest was tightening. Nathan had wanted to follow me but I could hear the low growl of Elvira keeping everyone in place.

A few minutes later, I heard the leaves behind me rustling a little. I turned to find Elijah behind me. Drawing in a deep breath, I pulled myself together before he even got to me.

"I'm sorry about Nathan. He told me that he would behave himself before we got there" Elijah said before he sat down beside me on the edge of a rock beside the clinic.

"It's fine. I just hated being the centre of the conversation. It really makes me too self-conscious and I wasn't prepared to be at the time" I answered curtly without bothering to look at him, even though I could feel his eyes on my body.
