Lyra woke slowly, her body still humming from the memory of Kaelith’s kisses the night before. The massive bed in her suite felt too large, too luxurious, and far too empty. She lay there for a long moment, staring at the ceiling where faint magical constellations shifted and glowed, before forcing herself to rise.

She chose a simple gown of soft grey silk that morning, one that covered more than most court attire but still clung subtly to her curves. As she stepped into the main chamber of the Obsidian Tower, she found Kaelith waiting.

He was not alone.

Beside him stood a tall, powerfully built realm male who immediately drew Lyra’s attention. Commander Soren Vaelis was strikingly handsome, even with the long, jagged scar that ran from his left temple down across his jaw. His dark silver-veined skin spoke of strong bloodlines, while his ice-blue eyes were sharp and watchful. High cheekbones and a firm, masculine jaw gave him a rugged, warrior-like appeal that would turn heads in any realm. He wore dark, rune-etched armor that accentuated his broad shoulders and muscular frame, with two curved blades strapped across his back.

He was undeniably attractive — confident, grounded, and dangerous in his own right.

But he was not Kaelith.

Where Soren possessed a grounded, battle-hardened handsomeness, Kaelith’s beauty was otherworldly and devastating, like a fallen star given form. The High Lord’s molten gold eyes and ancient presence made every other male in the realm feel… lesser.

“Lyra,” Kaelith said, his voice low and possessive as he turned toward her. His gaze raked over her body with open hunger. “This is Commander Soren Vaelis. From this moment forward, he will serve as your personal bodyguard. He answers to no one but me.”

Soren bowed deeply, his movements precise and disciplined. “It is an honor, Lady Lyra. While I draw breath, no harm will come to you.”

Lyra studied him carefully. “I don’t need a constant shadow.”

“You do,” Kaelith replied firmly, stepping closer. He cupped her face with one large hand, his thumb brushing her cheek in a gesture that sent warmth racing through her veins. “The Eclipse Order is growing bolder by the day. Lady Isolde plots in every shadow. I will not risk losing you.” His voice dropped to an intimate murmur. “And I cannot be at your side every moment… though the thought torments me.”

Soren’s expression remained stoic, but Lyra caught the briefest flicker of something — discomfort, perhaps — in his ice-blue eyes.

Kaelith continued, “Soren will escort you to your first formal etiquette lesson this morning. Lady Elowen Veyra has agreed to instruct you personally. She is one of the few in court I still trust.”

The journey to Lady Elowen’s pavilion took them across several floating crystal bridges. Soren walked half a step behind Lyra, silent but alert. The wind carried the faint songs of glowing flowers and the distant hum of magic.

“You don’t have to stare at me like I might vanish,” Lyra said after several minutes of heavy silence.

Soren’s deep voice replied evenly, “My duty is your safety, Lady Lyra. The High Lord’s orders were… emphatic.”

Lyra glanced back at him. “How long have you served him?”

“Over two centuries.” A faint, rueful smile touched his scarred face. “Long enough to know when he has finally found something worth protecting.”

The words hung between them. Lyra felt heat rise in her cheeks.

They arrived at a beautiful open pavilion on one of the outer floating islands. Lady Elowen Veyra awaited them — an older realm woman of graceful poise, with silver hair streaked in faint gold and sharp yet kind amethyst eyes. She moved with the elegance of someone who had spent centuries mastering court politics.

“Welcome, Lady Lyra,” Elowen said warmly, though her gaze held careful assessment. “The High Lord has entrusted me with preparing you for life at court. We have much work to do.”

The lesson lasted for hours.

Elowen taught her everything: how to hold a goblet with perfect poise, which titles to use with which ranks, how to read the subtle shifts in conversation that could mean alliance or betrayal. She corrected Lyra’s posture repeatedly, tapping her shoulder with a delicate fan.

“You carry yourself like a scholar, not a consort,” Elowen chided gently. “Chin high. Shoulders relaxed but regal. Every movement should suggest quiet power.”

During a break over fragrant nectar tea surrounded by singing flowers, Elowen’s tone grew more personal.

“Be cautious with your heart, child,” she murmured. “Kaelith has never shown interest in anyone before you. Not in four hundred years. Such sudden, all-consuming obsession can be as dangerous as it is intoxicating.”

Lyra’s mind drifted unwillingly to the heated kisses she had shared with Kaelith. Back on Earth, her only sexual experience had been a clumsy, two-minute encounter with a fellow student during her second year of university. It had been awkward, painful, and deeply unsatisfying. She had felt nothing but disappointment and embarrassment afterward. That night, she had promised herself she would never again give her body to anyone until she felt truly ready, safe, and in complete control.

Kaelith tested that promise every single day. His touch awakened desires she had long buried. The magnetic pull between them made her question everything.

Soren remained stationed at the pavilion entrance the entire time, silent and watchful. When the lesson finally ended, he escorted her back across the floating bridges without a word.

As they reached the entrance to the Obsidian Tower, Soren finally spoke.

“The High Lord is a good ruler,” he said quietly, his handsome, scarred face serious. “But even good men can become dangerous when they want something this badly after so long. If you ever need protection from anyone — including him — you need only speak the word.”

Lyra blinked in surprise at the quiet warning hidden beneath his loyalty.

Before she could respond, Kaelith appeared at the top of the stairs, watching them with narrowed, intensely possessive eyes.

“Commander,” he said, his voice cool. “You may leave us.”

Soren bowed stiffly and departed.

The moment he was gone, Kaelith descended the stairs in long strides and pulled Lyra into his arms without warning. He kissed her deeply, hungrily, one hand tangling in her hair while the other gripped her hip, pressing her against him.

“I missed you today,” he growled against her mouth. “Every moment you were away from me was torture.”

Lyra shivered, caught between the fire he ignited in her and the heavy secrets weighing on her soul. She kissed him back, unable to fully resist.

For now, it was all she dared to give.

Lyra stood motionless in the center of the bathing chamber, heart thundering so loudly she was certain Kaelith could hear it. Cool air kissed her still-damp, lotion-slick skin, raising goosebumps across every inch of her naked body. One arm was crossed tightly over her breasts, the other hand pressed between her thighs in a futile attempt to hide herself.Kaelith sat on the edge of the large bed like a statue carved from shadow and starlight. His molten gold eyes devoured her with devastating intensity. The silver veins beneath his obsidian skin pulsed wildly, flaring brighter with every second he stared.“I… I didn’t know you were back,” Lyra whispered, voice trembling. “You were supposed to be in a long council meeting.”“I returned early.” His voice was rough, almost broken. “I wanted to surprise you.” A low, tortured groan escaped him as his gaze traced the curve of her hips, the lotion glistening on her skin. “Gods, Lyra… you have no idea what you do to me. Watching you rub that

**Slight Mature Content Ahead**Lyra sank into the glowing spring pool in her private bathing chamber with a deep sigh of relief. The warm, magically infused water soothed her aching muscles and eased some of the constant tension that had settled in her body since arriving in the Veil Realm. She lingered longer than necessary, letting the scented steam curl around her. When she finally stepped out, droplets of shimmering water slid down her bare skin. She hadn’t bothered with a towel yet, assuming Kaelith was still away at a long council meeting. The room was dimly lit by soft floating crystals, casting gentle golden light across the marble floor. She walked to the ornate vanity, completely naked, and picked up a small crystal jar of luxurious moisturizer. Squirting a generous amount into her palm, she began rubbing it into her skin with slow, deliberate strokes — starting at her shoulders, moving down her arms, then across her collarbones and breasts. Her nipples tightened under her

Lyra barely slept. Every time she closed her eyes, she felt Kaelith’s mouth on hers — fierce, hungry, and devastatingly skilled. The memory of his hard body pressing against her, the way his silver veins had flared with light at the contact, haunted her through the long hours of darkness. By the time the three moons began to fade into the soft glow of what passed for morning in the Veil Realm, she was exhausted and restless. Attendants arrived early with breakfast and a new wardrobe. Today’s gown was more modest than the previous night’s but no less beautiful — deep emerald silk that complemented her eyes, with silver embroidery that matched Kaelith’s vein patterns. She suspected that was intentional. When she emerged into the main chamber of the tower, Kaelith was already waiting. He looked as composed as ever, but she noticed the faint shadows under his molten gold eyes. The silver veins along his neck and wrists seemed just a frac

Lyra had barely slipped back into the suite and tossed the dark cloak into a corner when the doors to the chamber opened.Kaelith stepped inside, his presence filling the room like a gathering storm. His molten gold eyes immediately locked onto her. He was still dressed in his court robes, but his long black hair was slightly disheveled, as though he had been running his hands through it.“You were not in bed,” he said, voice dangerously quiet. He crossed the room in slow, measured strides. “Where have you been, Lyra?”Her heart slammed against her ribs. She could still feel the cool night air on her skin from the shadowed grove. The rebel’s words echoed in her mind: We can get you home.“I needed fresh air,” she replied, forcing her voice to remain steady. “The court dinner… everything that happened tonight was overwhelming.”Kaelith stopped mere inches away. He studied her face with unnerving intensity, as though he could read every secret she tried to hide. The silver veins beneath

The grand court hall descended into barely controlled chaos.Guards swarmed the fallen chandelier, shards of glowing crystal scattered across the marble floor like broken stars. The lower noble who had shouted the Eclipse Order’s name was dragged away still screaming defiance, his voice echoing off the walls: “The breeding must end! The humans do not belong to you!”Kaelith’s presence was thunderous. He stood at the center of the dais, one hand still gripping Lyra’s wrist possessively as he issued sharp commands. “Secure the perimeter. Interrogate the prisoner. I want every guest questioned.”His molten gold eyes burned with barely contained rage, but whenever they flicked to Lyra, the fury softened into something far more dangerous — raw, protective hunger.Lyra’s heart pounded. The note hidden in her gown felt like it was searing her skin. Midnight. The shadowed grove. The Eclipse Order had made their move publicly, and now the entire court was on edge.Lady Isolde rose from her sea
