Chapter 3: Agreement

I was in that position when I suddenly realized something.

Am I really just going to accept this? Am I really going to stay as a ghost forever?

No.

Definitely NO! I need to do something.

With all the strength left in me, I stood up. I walked in the direction where the girl had turned. I even ran. I’m sure she hasn’t gone far. After just one turn, a large building appeared before me.

"GWYNETH UNIVERSITY"

I walked through the large gates of the school. Students wearing the same uniform as the girl I saw earlier were roaming around. So this must be her school. I’d surely have a hard time looking for her here. Considering I was still at the entrance and could barely see any other buildings because of the towering structures scattered across the campus, I knew it wouldn’t be easy.

Without wasting any more time, I quickly scanned the entire school. Where could she be?

I wandered around the campus, going in and out of rooms, peeking inside. If I didn’t find her, I’d move on to the next building. I had already visited several buildings, but there were no signs of her.

Where on earth could you be, babygirl? I’m tired already!

I sat down on a bench in a secluded corner of the campus and rubbed my sore knees. I never thought souls like me could get exhausted too. I thought spirits could just float around. Why am I walking? I should study this for next time so I won’t have to endure this again.

I was lost in my thoughts when a loud thud broke the silence. I turned to my right and saw a group of girls gathered together. I approached them, only to find out that babygirl was surrounded by them. She was hunched over, kneeling on the floor. Such a waste of flawless skin. A chubby girl grabbed babygirl’s bag and opened it. The girls threw everything from the bag onto babygirl. Wow, what a piece of shit this girl is.

“Serves you right, bitch!” – said the skinny girl with a grin. She probably thinks she’s cute, looking like she was born from a broomstick.

The leader crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at babygirl. The leader looked like a clown with her thick makeup. I think she mistook her face for a coloring book.

“What now, Freiya? Is this where you draw the line?” – the leader mocked.

Babygirl looked up. Our eyes met. Her eyes widened in shock. I just raised an eyebrow and gave her a glare. She’s so brave in front of me, but she’s about to get crushed by these three.

“Oh? You’re speechless now?” – the chubby girl taunted.

This is getting interesting. I raised an eyebrow at babygirl, urging her to fight back, but she just looked at me. Tsss, this girl probably wants to get beaten up.

The leader grabbed a bottle. A bottle of alcohol. She signaled the other two to hold babygirl down. Babygirl struggled, but it was useless. The leader held her mouth shut and was about to force the alcohol bottle into babygirl’s mouth. If that happened, babygirl would be in serious trouble. Before the bottle could touch Freiya’s lips, as they call her, I immediately pushed it away, spilling it onto one of the girls holding Freiya. Everyone was shocked by what happened. The leader of the group stood up, her eyes wide as she looked at the chubby girl.

“Uhh... Sorry... I-I…” – the chubby girl stuttered.

“Wait, it’s not my fault you’re too big and got spilled on, right? You have eyes to avoid it, but you didn’t. Are you stupid?” – the leader quickly fired back.

I had to hold back my laughter. How naive of this girl to talk like that to someone twice her size.

I saw how the chubby girl clenched her fists. She was about to launch herself at the leader, but the school bell rang. They all exchanged glances before quickly walking away. But before the leader left, she said something to babygirl.

“You’re dead when I get you later.” – she spat, her eyes filled with rage. Babygirl just shot her a sharp look in return.

I turned to babygirl when it was just the two of us. I watched as she stood up, brushing herself off. She rearranged her things and carefully packed them back into her bag. She didn’t even bother to look at me and was about to leave when I called her out.

“Hey! That’s it? No ‘thank you’?” – I said sarcastically.

She lazily glanced at me.

“Look, I didn’t ask for your help. I could have handled them, so you shouldn’t have gotten involved in a fight that wasn’t yours.” – she said, turning her back on me. The corner of my lips lifted.

“Really? Could you really handle them, Freiya? From what I saw earlier, I doubt it. You were so confident in front of me. Does that confidence helped you when you're in trouble? No. We both know you're just a coward.”

She quickly turned to look at me after I said those words. I smiled. Bull’s-eye!

“What did you say?” – she snarled, her fists clenched in anger.

Oh! I think I hit a nerve. I lazily examined my nails before looking at her with a grin on my face.

“What? Where?” – I said innocently, teasing her.

“I am NOT a coward!” – she hissed, gritting her teeth.

I just shook my head.

“If you’re not a coward, then why can’t you defend yourself? If you were brave enough, you’d have beaten them already. There are many of them, but they’re not smart. So, what’s stopping you?” – I said with a grin.

She stared at me, her fiery eyes nearly burning through me. Sadly, I’m not in my physical form. But of course, I didn’t break my gaze, challenging her.

A few minutes passed, and she was the first to look away. I smirked in victory.

Gotcha!

“Fine! What do you want from me?” – she asked, sounding defeated.

“You know what I need from you, Freiya.” – I said.

“What do I get in return?” – Hmm. Wise, I like that.

“My protection. As long as I’m here, no one will touch you. Never.” – I said in a serious tone.

Freiya approached me and extended her hand.

“Deal!” – she said, offering her hand.

Before I shook it, I added something.

“I’ll need your help too, to find out who I am.” – I said.

She raised an eyebrow.

“What? How can I help you if you don’t even know who you are?” – she asked, confused.

“Exactly. That’s why you’ll help me, right? To figure out who I am. FYI, I know my name. Other than that, everything is blank. So it’s not that hard.” – I explained. She nodded.

“Okay, deal! I’m Freiya Celeste Devoun, accepting your offer.” – She extended her hand toward me. I smiled widely and clasped her hand.

“I’m Zaire Aera, sealing the agreement.” – I said. She immediately released my hand.

“Let’s meet later. I have class now.” – she said, quickly running off.

I watched her until she disappeared from my sight.

So... this is the start.

  • Wandering Soul   Chapter 5: Possession

Chapter 5: PossessionIt was break time, and I stayed inside their classroom. I kept my head down on the desk, simply soaking in the silence of the room.A loud thud broke the silence. I turned to my right. I saw a somewhat older-looking girl, compared to her classmates, slowly stand up. My eyebrows furrowed when I noticed one of Freiya’s classmates sneak behind the girl without her noticing. I stood up and walked over to them.My eyebrows were furrowed as I read what was written on the paper: “I’m so pretty, aren’t I? Are you jealous?” Oh, this is really crossing the line! I looked over at the group of male students, and I could see their grins. The girl tried to protest, but she was cut off by one of the guys. "What’s wrong? Are you going to cry? Are you going to tell your mom? Owwwwwww," he teased, and his friends laughed along. The girl stayed silent, and I could tell she was on the verge of tears. I suddenly felt sympathy for her. An emotion stirred inside me, and I wasn’t sure wh

Chapter 4: Two Types of YouthTHE NEXT DAY, I accompanied Freiya to school. We decided that after her classes, we would start looking for answers. As she walked in, she was almost confronted by the girl she had argued with the day before, but it didn’t happen because their teacher arrived just in time. Freiya immediately sat at her desk while I took an empty seat in the back. From where I was sitting, I could see everything. Some were laughing, some were whispering, some were quietly teasing each other, and there were also those lost in their own world, sitting quietly at their desks. Typical high school students. I probably was just like them before all of this happened. I probably was happy, just like them. But happiness… why does it feel like it's one of the things I’m missing? The teacher cleared her throat to get the attention of the class. "Good day, section Daffodil," she began."Good day, Ma’am," the whole class responded in unison."At this point, I want each of you to explain

  • Wandering Soul   Chapter 2: Soul

The sound of birds and the rustling of leaves woke me up the next morning. A white room greeted me as soon as I opened my eyes. There was an IV drip attached to one of my arms, and I realized I was in the hospital. I didn’t know why I was here or why I felt so light. It felt so light that I couldn't understand why. I decided to get up and look out the window. The area outside the building was clear, and the sunlight was bright. My gaze shifted to the IV in my hand. I knew I shouldn't, but I pulled it out. A little blood came out when the needle was withdrawn. I put the IV aside and looked for something to cover my hospital gown. Just then, I saw a black jacket on the sofa in the room. I grabbed it and put it on. It was the right size to cover the hospital dress.I knew I was supposed to stay here, but one of the places I hate most is the hospital. It only brings back bad memories. I walked to the door and went out. I immediately looked to the right when I heard something fall. The nurs

  • Wandering Soul   Chapter 1: Faded

The flickering lights from the lamp illuminated my four-cornered room as I pulled its switch continuously to disturb myself from unwanted thoughts. Being alone in the middle of the night gives excruciating chills to my system, and I never get used to it.Only the lamp provides light in the room, and turning it on and off only intensifies the terrifying feeling. Something I should have gotten used to long ago. Every time I turn on the light, different kinds of images appear between my memories. Every time I turn it off, I look back into the darkness that I used to dwell in.You know, living in a dark and lonely room is quite scary, but you have to stay inside because that's where you grew up, that's where you find comfort and peace, and at the same time, pain."Aera! I heard you're a top achiever? What rank?" - I still remember when mom opened the topic at the dinner table back when daddy was still here.My fourteen-year-old face lit up, and I happily mentioned my rank at school."Yes,
