Rose's POV
As soon as I walked into my room, I locked the door and started pacing up and down. That was awkward. Eugene might be handsome, but he is cold-hearted. I could see it in the way he looked at me when I walked towards him. I didn't even do anything to deserve the way he just looked at me! Luckily, I searched the web for information about him before I greeted him. I found that he dislikes all girls because of personal reasons, and I went on some girl called Cassidy Opera's I*******m, where she posted a photo of him reading a book, so I assumed he liked to read. I think he might be thankful that I don't want anything to do with him because I sure am.
I look at the time on my wall clock. It's almost 4 o'clock. The make-up artist and hairstylist Mama arranged will be arriving soon.
I press the intercom and ask two of my maids to come to my room and prepare me a rose petal bath. They usually do it for me, and they massage my face as well during the bath. Oh, how I love it. They make my bathroom feel like a spa.
~
It didn't take long after my bath before the make-up artist and hairstylist were there as well as my fashion agent with the dress mama designed for me for tonight.
The dress was stunning, but I still don't understand why she went all out with this dress. It was as if we were going to a ball or some fancy event.
The hairstylist started to work with my hair first, and I couldn't help but be surprised by the results. I looked very elegant with the new hairstyle that I could barely even recognize myself in the mirror.
Next was for the make-up artist to work her magic with me. It took her a while, but not as long as the hairstylist took to make me look the way I looked.
The results were so beautiful. I felt like a real princess in my new dress. The make-up artist and hairstylist knew what they were doing. I looked stunning!
I heard a knock on the door, and Mama came into my room. The hairstylist and make-up artist greeted her on their way out of my room. Mama walked around in my room, and I could hear her sit down on my couch in the corner of my room. I was still in my dressing room, staring at myself in awe. Mama cleared her throat a little before she started to speak.
"I'm just checking in if everything is fine. It's almost time to go. The limo will be here shortly."
"Je vous remercie, mama. I'm finished," I say and pop my head out of the dressing room, "Do you want to see?"
Mama's face lit up with that of a child's happiness. "S'il vous plaît. I'd love to see how you look in that dress."
I smile to myself before I walk out of my dressing room, and Mama stared at me in complete shock and adoration. I could see a tear rolling down her cheek.
"Mama, are you alright?" I ask, concerned why she suddenly started crying.
Mama wipes away the tear and envelopes me into a hug. "Oh dear, you've grown to be such a beautiful woman. I wish I could keep you to myself a little longer."
Keep me a little longer to herself? What does she mean by saying that?
Mama moves back from the hug and looks at me again. She smiles and kisses me on the cheek. "Come, it's time to go. We'll be waiting in the foyer for everyone."
With that said, she turns around and leaves my room, leaving me all alone to drown in my sea of thoughts about what she meant by saying those words to me right now. I sighed because I couldn't figure it out, so I decided to grab my things and go to the foyer where everyone will gather to go to the party. Something is not right.
As I descend the stairs, I could see everyone already gathered in the foyer. Papa was the first to notice me before Melissa looked up towards me, and after her, everyone followed her and Papa's gaze. Eugene was the last to look at me, but I could tell he was surprised when he saw how I looked because his mouth slightly dropped open. I saw Coraline giving him a look before he walked towards the stairs, where he stood waiting for me. I was surprised at first, but then I reminded myself he doesn't like me, and his mother forced him to do it.
As soon as I joined him, he took my hand, bowed down and kissed my knuckles in front of everyone before coming back to my level and looked right into my eyes. Ugg, I despise those icy eyes of his. He always catches me off guard with it all the time.
"You look beautiful." He says with a smirk.
I wanted to roll my eyes at his comment, but that would be considered impolite, now would it? So, I said what everyone else would have said in this situation. I thanked him. "Je vous remercie. You don't look too bad yourself."
"Thank you." He says rather cockily. "It was my mother and sisters doing."
He gives me a sly smile before he turns and gives me his arm to take. I link myself with him, and we join the rest where we walk towards the limos. My thoughts start to travel to one specific thing. Eugene looks quite handsome in a tuxedo. I would never have thought to admit the fact that maybe he looks good in anything he wears.
When we reached our limo, Eugene opened the door for me and held my hand to climb in. His manners are good, at least. After I was seated in the limo, Eugene closed my door and walked over to his side, where the chauffeur opened the door for him, and he got into the limo as well. We sat across to each other, both staring out the windows, not saying a word to each other. Well, I couldn't expect any less from the cold heir. He doesn't like me, and I made it pretty clear that I also don't like him.
The ride to the party was quiet, but it wasn't an awkward quiet. It was more like the type of quiet you get between enemies in a room. At least he didn't want to talk to me.
When the limos came to a stop, the chauffeur opened his door first, where he climbed out and walked around to my door to open it and help me out. As soon as I was out of the limo, Eugene gave me his arm again, and I linked myself with him. He then leads me to the rest of the group, and we all enter the dinner party. I hope this party is at least a success for Papa's business cooperation with the Wright's.
Well, never would I have thought things would take an unexpected turn at this party that would change my life forever. This dinner party was the beginning of a disaster.
Two years later"Rose, could you stop preparing things and sit down? It's not good for you to walk around like this."I peered at Mama as I sorted through all the fruits in the bowl,"I'm almost finished."As I reached to put the rest of the fruits in the bowl, Eugene grabbed my hands, forcing me to look at him."Dear, I'm not usually one to tell you what to do, but I think you should listen to your mother this time.""But,"I pouted as I glanced at the fruit,"I'm almost finished."
Rose’s POVI woke up to a throbbing pain in my right shoulder and a heartbeat monitor beeping. The sudden bright light that filled my vision as I opened my eyes was enough to make me blind. I squinted my eyes as I studied the room I was in and sighed in relief when I realized I was back at the hospital. We’ll more in the hospital than at the hospital if I studied my situation correctly.I groaned as I tried to sit up in the bed, the pain from my shoulder now spreading to the rest of my arm. Ugg, what is this pain?I looked towards my arm and noticed it was bandaged and hanging in a sleave. Oh, yeah. That right. I was shot. Yesterday? Two days prior? I don’t know how long I’ve been knocked out, so I’ll have to check the date on my phone.
Eugene's POVAfter I was called to the security room, it felt like ages before I could return to her room. In fact, I think only ten minutes have passed since I left her room, but that is enough time for anything to happen.I sighed and opened her door, expecting to see her still sitting on the bed, but she didn't. I studied the room, but I didn't see her anywhere. I looked towards the bathroom and saw a closed door. Maybe she went into the bathroom?I walked over to the door and knocked twice. "Rose? Are you in there?"I waited for her to answer me, but I heard nothing. I knocked again. "Rose? Is everything ok?"
After about a fifty minutes drive, we arrived at the harbour. The taxi driver didn’t want to go further into the vicinity. He dropped me off at the nearest place he could stop. I climbed out of the car, paid him, and watched as he drove off back into the city. I turned around and studied the harbour. I get why he didn’t want to go further because this was an abandoned harbour and no doubt someplace where the mafia people gather to collect their shipments. Now, if I wanted to commit a crime, this would be the place I would go.I took a deep breath and entered the vicinity. I couldn’t hear anything except my footsteps that echoed as I walked. It was high tide, so the ocean didn’t even move, and there were no seagulls in the sky. Everything was completely silent.I walked until I found a clearing where I saw Cassidy standing
7 months laterI was holding Lacey firmly in my hands. Not even a few hours ago, I was rushed to the hospital, and they had to do emergency surgery to get her out because I couldn’t give natural birth to her. The doctors told me I might die if I attempted to give natural birth because my body was too frail. Eugene was next to me and panicked when he heard I might die, so he lectured me. His outburst led to the nurses taking him away to calm him down while I was taken to ICU.Now here, after everything, here she was. Our beautiful baby girl. I rocked her in my arms when the door to my room opened, and in walked Eugene. The second he walked into the room, he paused in his steps and looked at me and then at Lacey. He rushed towards me, or rather, towards Lacey, and sat next to my bed. He looked at Lacey with utter admiration. I coul
Rose’s POVIt’s been nearly six months since I’ve been released from the hospital. The doctors kept me there for supervision for two weeks to make sure I was stable to be living my life again. After they took the bandages off my head, the blow to my head was still visible. The doctors told me that it would take about three more months for the wound to my skull to heal completely. So, I went for monthly checkups to make sure it was healing correctly. I also received my medicine for it during those checkups. The doctors also put me on anti-shock medication, saying it would help prevent any side effects from my blow to my head.I was grateful that I could receive such good treatment from the doctors. Eugene made sure that they took great care of me. He was also back to being himself, albeit more considerate and concerned for my well-being than he was before. Me
