Part 1| Puerto Vallarta

John Martínez walked quietly through the streets of Puerto Vallarta. A tourist town on the peaceful coast of Mexico, this beautiful city is known for its lush beaches and the lust of nightlife. The man walked through the darkness of the night while everyone went out to have fun in the meeting points of the city, he wandered alone somewhat sad and thoughtful.

Martinez is a businessman, who has great purchasing power, and just over a week ago he had divorced his wife, Emy. With the end of the relationship the woman left, taking the couple’s two small children with her. The man could not overcome the end of the marriage, staying at home literally was torture to his head. Every day since the breakup he goes for a walk at night, little did John know that that night would change his life forever.

During long hours on the street, John was far away from his apartment, he was in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in his city. The place was made up of dark and gloomy alleys, and it was in one of them that the man heard the screams of a woman.

- Help! Help! - The woman screamed with desperation in her voice.

- Shut up, bitch. Shoot her already. - Another male voice echoed through the alley.

Upon realizing the situation, John hid, feeling afraid. He didn't know how to act or how he could help the woman. The only way he found was to grab his phone and call the police. Hopefully, there would be enough time to save her from the criminals. This hope of saving her was brutally ripped from his heart when he heard five gunshots coming from the alley. Martinez froze, his eyes widening.

- Sir? How can we help? The Mexican police were on the other end of the line, trying to grab the man's attention.

Quickly, the assailants got into a car and fled. As the black car sped past him on the avenue, the man hung up the call without saying a word to the police and dropped his phone as he ran towards the alley. Upon arriving at the scene of the shots, Martinez came face to face with the woman's lifeless body lying on the ground in a pool of blood. He approached the body slowly, searching for any signs of life, but soon realized it was too late - the woman was dead.

The man began to move away from the body, overwhelmed with guilt for not being able to help, for letting those criminals brutally take the life of that young woman who, even covered in blood, seemed to have a pure, innocent soul. Martinez wiped the tears from his face and patted his pockets, realizing that his phone was nowhere to be found. He started searching frantically. How would he explain to anyone that he had lost his phone at a crime scene? No one would believe he wasn't involved, or they would arrest him as an accomplice.

- No, no, no, shit! - He muttered to himself as he searched for the device, but had no success in finding it.

The police sirens began to blare loudly through the streets, making John realize that the officers were getting closer. In that instant, the man headed towards the entrance of the dark alley and began to walk slowly, trying not to raise suspicion. He soon spotted a patrol car turning the corner and abruptly stopping at the location where everything had happened minutes ago. Commander Petter looked at the man walking from a distance, and something intrigued her.

- I want you to do a thorough search of the area, collect everything you find. - She instructed one of her officers. - And you, stay here with the body and wait for the forensics team. I'm going to see if my intuition matches my gift. - She nodded towards the only man walking in that area.

She ran towards Martinez, who, upon noticing the woman's movement, picked up his pace. Suddenly, his steps became much faster until he started running in an attempt to escape.

- Hey, wait! - Petter shouted.

The closer she got, the faster Martinez ran. He was desperate. What had happened to the calmness of his daily walks? Now he found himself in the middle of a murder case, fleeing from a police officer. It simply had to be a nightmare.

John runs into another alley, and unfamiliar with the place, finds himself cornered. "This will surely be my end," the man thinks. The commander appears with her hand outstretched, pointing her gun at the man, who tries to quickly think of a way to escape the situation.

- Hold on. Or I'll shoot. - The officer communicates. - What do you have to do with that woman's murder? Are you armed? - She questions the man who remains silent.

- Speak up, damn it! - She raises her voice impatiently.

- I have nothing... I don't know what you're talking about. - The man speaks nervously.

- Then why did you run? - She approaches, trying to intimidate the man in front of her.

- I already said I don't know anything, I swear.

- That's what we'll find out. - The woman swiftly grabs the man in a move that prevents him from escaping.

- Where are you taking me? - He asks.

- The police station. - The woman retorts.

Now Martinez was literally knee-deep in the case, he was at the mercy of the commander, and only a miracle could save him. Suddenly, the trash can lid falls, making a loud noise that grabs Petter's attention, causing her to stop abruptly and point her gun at the trash can.

- Your accomplice? She briefly glances at John.

When the man realizes that Petter's attention has shifted away from him and towards the trash can, he seizes the opportunity and delivers a decisive blow to her, causing her gun to fall to the ground, surprising her. The two quickly engage in a struggle to see who can grab the gun first, and this time Martinez is faster.

- Stay still! Or I'll shoot you. - The man says, holding the gun, and upon seeing the officer completely taken aback, he runs as fast as he can to avoid being found by the other police officers.

- Shit! - Petter laments.
