CHAPTER 23: APOLOGY
The next day, the sun was shining brightly and the weather was unbelievably good that Gavin decided to take on Maya’s offer to join the archery lessons with the pups. He told the beta about it at the cooking house. He went early to have a chat with Nana, and maybe convince her let him help too but he obviously failed again, and Maya happened to be there too.
“Really?” she asked, momentarily dropping the hares she was skinning to face him. Gavin hummed in answer, his eyes never straying from the vegetable he was holding. It’s some kind of a plant that only grows in the pack territory and he is tasked to pluck the leaves.
“I do not really have anything to do around here. So, I figured joining you would be good,” he answered.
“That’s great,” she said, picking up the hare to continue her task. Gavin glanced at her, and then down to her bloodied hands. He wrinkled his nose

It’s been days since Gavin last got out of his shack. It’s like he was back to square one, back when he still wasn’t comfortable to come out. His meals are delivered by Maya. The next time Gavin opened his eyes, it was to darkness. He’s lying somewhere soft but he could not figure out where he was beyond his clouded senses and vision. For a second, he thought he was dreaming again, panic immediately settled in his chest, his breathing quickly turning erratic. An involuntary whine built up in his throat, high and pitchy—a distressed call. His body grew taut with tension, legs curling close to his chest as he threaded closer to another pit of panic attack when a door to his left burst open. He could not see the person well, with the sudden flood of light blinding him, but he was able to catch his scent. The warm hands cupping Gavin’s cheeks is the only thing keeping him grounded at the moment. The soft mattress dipping under his weight, the darkness of Ainar’s cabin with only a few candles providing them of small light and the akoha’s spoiled scent is barely keeping him afloat. Gavin took a sharp intake of breath. Ainar is silent in front of him, his mouth is open but not a single word has come out of his mouth after the omega’s confession. He has been silent, but his eyes are loud, glinting gold in the darkness of the room, and even more so, his scent, that is struggling to remain neutral in an attempt to soothe the distressed omega despite the anger that is threatening to implode.“How long?” Ainar asked in a whisper, his eyes are searching.
