Chapter 21

Yin Xiaoxiao knew that Yin Ruoyun was expressing concern for her on the surface but was actually trying to mislead Jing Liyuan. She was trying to hint that Yin Xiaoxiao was a shameless woman! Yin Xiaoxiao looked at her sister coldly, as though she was looking at a clown who was making a fool of herself. However, she didn't say anything even as she looked at Jing Liyuan sitting on the sofa.

She felt a little uneasy because she didn't really know Jing Liyuan well and wasn't sure what his decision would be. After all, no family would accept someone with a scandalous reputation as their daughter-in-law. She would accept his decision if he decided to divorce her as Yin Ruoyun had hinted he would.

When Yin Ruoyun caught sight of Yin Xiaoxiao's expression, she couldn't help but smile when her back was turned. She had been drawn to Jing Liyuan's perfect looks from the very first time they'd met, and to make things worse, he was the husband of the hateful Yin Xiaoxiao. This made her very resentful so she had come up with a way to tear them apart. Yin Xiaoxiao would probably have called Yin Ruoyun a demented bitch if she knew what Yin Ruoyun was thinking.

Yin Ruoyun stepped forward and looped her arm through Yin Xiaoxiao's. This time, she didn't use any force and gently held her sister's arm. She seemed very anxious as her gaze darted back and forth between Jing Liyuan and Yin Xiaoxiao. She then said softly, "Sis, you should explain things to my brother-in-law as soon as possible. What are you going to do if he divorces you? If it becomes known that you got a divorce the day after you got hitched, you wouldn't be able to marry anyone else again for the rest of your life."

Yin Ruoyun seemed to show a lot of concern for her sister, but Yin Xiaoxiao didn't even look at her. Yin Xiaoxiao looked at Jing Liyuan and was about to speak when he stood up from the sofa, pulled her to his side, and asked with a slight frown, "Why aren't you dressed yet?"

Yin Xiaoxiao looked down and when she saw that she was still in her pajamas with a large print of Snoopy smiling goofily at Jing Liyuan, she wanted to find a hole in the ground and crawl into it. How did she somehow always manage to embarrass herself when she was with him?

"I'll go get changed now," she said weakly. She turned around to run back upstairs when she suddenly felt the familiar warmth of his hand on her wrist. She turned back to look at him in confusion and wondered if he was regretting her "proposal".

"What happened to your arm?" he asked. He was a doctor, so he was very adept at spotting injuries. He had noticed the injury on her arm the moment he'd seen her on the staircase. He had pulled her toward him earlier because he had noticed that Yin Ruoyun had been holding Yin Xiaoxiao's injured arm.

Yin Xiaoxiao froze for a brief moment but she felt very touched because Jing Liyuan was the only person apart from her brother who truly cared for her in a way that even Xiang Chen had never done.

"I hurt myself by accident," she said. She didn't want to lie but she didn't want to make the situation worse.

She wouldn't rat out Yin Ruoyun because she wasn't very well acquainted with Jing Liyuan, so she wasn't sure whether he'd believe her words. Was there a need to make herself look like the bad guy in that case?

Jing Liyuan shot her a meaningful look, his expression inscrutable. Yin Xiaoxiao felt a little flustered and tried to pull her hand away but he had let go of her before she could do so.

"You should take more care in the future. Head upstairs and get changed," Jing Liyuan said calmly and didn't pursue the matter any further.

Yin Xiaoxiao nodded and headed back upstairs. She ignored the fact that Yin Ruoyun was trying to engage Jing Liyuan in conversation because her heart was beating too strongly on its own accord...
