Second Chance

Amber’s POV

After we crossed the RaeganHill territory, Lana gave me one last smile and faded. I suddenly felt lonely.

Dave wasn’t helping the situation either, he took his sweet time in getting us to the new territory. He kept on making random stops to pee or buy something, as if he was taking me to a secret location.

Wait. What if he is a bad person, I wondered.

“Are you sure you know the way”, I asked.

He flashed me a nervous smile and made another stop 15 minutes later. Irritated, I forced myself to take a nap.

I had that dream again. I was in a field of flowers, daisies and lilies, it was a beautiful place and the sun shone so bright. Then I saw a droplet of blood fall on a white daisy. Immediately every flower became soaked in blood and it died. Something started chasing me into the darkness and I came before a throne. A man came out of the shadows, my heart acknowledged him as mine. He drew me into an embrace, today he felt cold, he started to strangle me and I opened my eyes.

I don’t know how long I was out but I woke up to cheerful sounds all around us. I saw Dave trying to suppress a satisfied grin and I angrily rolled my eyes, sneaky wolf.

People in this place looked like royalty unlike my old pack. You would not be able to differentiate a noble from the rest from what I've seen so far.

They are strange though, they keep bowing to Dave, the omega, as we drive by but he looks unbothered and his aura has changed too.

I tried asking about the strange greeting but each time he finds a distraction. “Woah, look at that fountain, or look at the field”, he says

He is so childish and annoying, so I stop asking. I will find out for myself later.

We finally get to the main pack house, he gets out to open my door for me then the Alpha of Eaglestone appears.

“Welcome Al….”, Alpha Derrick begins and stops.

For a second I see fear on his face then he smiles, “Welcome to back Eaglestone Pack”. Then the Alpha Derrick takes a bow.

I hear Dave curse beneath his breath, he was bothered about the bow after all, I wonder.

Dave curls his hands into a fist and his expression hardens. The 2 men stand silent for a minute as if communicating internally.

What did Alpha Derrick mean by “welcome back”? This is both our first time. What pack was Dave from before he became a rogue? What happened to him?

My head kept on exploding with unanswered questions that I lost track of the conversation going on. I only heard bits.

I heard we will stay at the pack house for observation before we officially get our residency sorted. I didn’t argue, it is a wise move.

Alpha Derrick snaps his finger and a maid comes out. She frightens upon seeing us but bows facing the Alpha instead. However her eyes dart to Dave in that position before she corrects her posture.

“These are our new guests, help her to her room”, he orders her.

The maid goes to get my box from the car and escorts me to my room. I tried to have small talks with her but she only either gave a one word answer or a nod. This place is really beginning to spook me.

I find out my room will be on the same corridor as the Alpha and not the servants. I try to find out if it's a normal thing but I stop, she hasn’t been resourceful so far.

This room is large and beautiful. It even has a big bathtub beside the large window. I waste no time to undress and soak in the bath. The ray of sun against my skin calms my nerves. I finally feel free.

A knock on my door interrupts me and I quickly change into one of the new clothes in my room. A lady pushes a trolley of assorted meals into my room when I open.

“The Alpha insists you eat something before tonight”, she bows and exits. The platter has the right portions of my favorite meals.

The clothes fit so perfectly. Everything feels unreal, like they knew I was coming. I am not complaining though, I really can get used to this soft service here after labouring for others. I shake off the sad memories. “Happy Thoughts, New Beginnings”, I chant.

That evening at their town hall, Dave and I are introduced to the rest. I felt overwhelmed from all the hugs and inquiries. They genuinely wanted to know if I was okay. It was from the older women mostly.

The young ladies were not as welcoming, I guess I would too.

Before I realised a week has passed in my new home. I had a lot of time to explore the pack community and learn their ways. No one made me feel unwelcome. Mainly because I was kept under house arrest. The few I met were kind and generous to me.

By the end of the week when I finally met him, I asked Dave to put in a word for me with the beta to start training with the pack warriors.

“I was once a fighter”, I said to myself mainly when he looked at me uncertainly. I thought about the days I used to fight alongside Cornel and Alpha Logan, these were days before I found out I was next in line as Luna.

Kathrine told me to stop being a fighter and focus on being a submissive wife to the future Alpha and my pack. It was during this period I started having stomach aches. The pack doctor diagnosed it as a gut allergy and Kathrine recommended the pills.

I started gaining weight.

I used to blame my weight on lack of training and having to taste test different dishes as I learnt to prepare, I now realise it was a set up.

Alpha Derrick agreed to my training. Early Monday dawn I got up early to run a mile before training began. I ended up going for training late because I lost track of time. I blamed it on my weight and this environment.

“Next time you come late, fifty push ups”, the commander barked at me. I gave a nod and looked around. This training ground is intense, egos were high. I felt small without my wolf but I am determined to rise up again.

I got paired with a wolf named Zoe for the next set. She kept on blocking and hitting me. Her blows felt personal, she began calling me rude names. I ignored her, I was reading her moves.

She went harder, “the wolfless fat omega who follows Dave like a lost pup”, some people laughed.

I was triggered. The first people who called me a pup went unharmed, but I don’t give second chances.

The others stopped sparring to watch, I swung my hand, she blocked with her right again and hit my stomach. Gotcha I smiled.

Right handed same counter. I take some steps back to the entrance.

I take off my jacket and charge towards her screaming, "I am not a pup”…..
