Friend or Foe

Ambers POV

“I AM NOT A PUP..”, I screamed and charged towards Zoe.

When I retreated she thought she had successfully gotten under my skin and that I was leaving the grounds.

I actually did that to disarm her guard and also weigh down on my available options. Her back was towards me, she was chatting with some fellows. When they were all fully engrossed in their conversation I charged towards her without a second thought.

I felt super heavy charging towards her, it felt like the ground beneath was shaking. I was panting a lot.. whew…I got a lot of shedding to work on.

I managed to connect my fist into her jaw right before I stumbled. I heard her curse harshly, “You fat fat fat pup”.

I smirked and held my fist the rush excited me and I forgot the battle hadn’t ended. As I stood in a haze embracing the pain from hitting her, I felt a deeper pain in my gut.

“You freaking newbie”, she said after hitting me

She recovered immediately and swung her right arm against my chest when I stood up. Oh that hurt so bad, I stumbled backward and clutched my chest gasping for breath. Panic crept on me as I saw her signal to her group to hold me down so she could continue her attack.

Two strong guys came behind me and each grabbed an arm as I struggled to break free. I looked around for help but everyone was on Zoe’s team, typical high school behavior. I was forced on my knees with the two holding my arms wide apart.

Zoe slapped me hard on the cheek. “You think one hit at me gives you an advantage huh?”, Zoe brags, “I am the best warrior here, nobody has defeated me, not even you can”. She slapped me again.

I spat the blood out and said, “mm.. I'll retract that statement… cat”.

I intentionally stressed the last word out to irritate her. “Right now I can’t say you’re the best for sure cos you got your kittens lapping over me, poor big kittens”, I looked at each man with a sad mocking smirk.

I heard my left arm snap, but I didn't shout, I bit my teeth in agony. If they want to break me they would have to try harder. I’ve been through worse in my own parents house. The reminder made me sad.

After I got situated in the main pack house and close to the Alpha’s room I knew I was bait. And I’m not going to lie, I looked forward to some rivalry. Mainly because I missed fighting. Back home I had to stay still as Kathrine and Annabel and Bryan took turns torturing me. They called it Luna training. In case a stronger pack invaded ours and Cornel was down, I would have to be immune enough to be a shield for the pack.

“Why do I need to be a lady of the pack but a shield in case of attacks”, I asked once and got bruised so badly I thought I died.

When I woke up Bryan said, “this is why”, I never argued again.

The hardest thing I did was to give up on being a warrior to become the perfect luna. I had never been the favorite daughter so when I showed interest to join the warriors they happily agreed hoping I’d die or be captured.

When they realized I kept rising in the ranks they sought for a way to tame me, unfortunately I got mated to the Alpha’s son. I was untouchable for a while until Alpha Logan died and Cornel took over. That is when the stupid perfect luna training began.

I still woke up early in the morning to watch them from my window, their chants and grunts cheered me up before I faced my parents and the pack.

After I took time off the field Brody and I started growing apart. He became busy with maintaining order out there while I was swarmed with learning etiquettes and laws. The distance didn’t help with the constant ridicule from my sister and mum, eventually I found comfort in food. I would cook a lot and eat a few but I did still work out. I watched my weight because I hoped that after our mating ceremony I could return to the battlefield to fight alongside my mate.

I cannot recount exactly when I became obese but I remember feeling fatigued a lot and resting a lot more.

My maid once asked if I had missed my period. That thought made me blush then, now I know she was actually being offensive.

Zoe brought me back to the present, “ Ok get up, lets fight. Just you and I, no cheating or backup”.

“Naaa… I’m bored of your cat calls and fight”, I replied

“She’s scared”, I heard someone shout

Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!, the chant begun

I forced myself up and took a stance. Zoe however kept moving around me in circles. She threw a fist towards me, I dodged but tripped and fell. She got on top of me and raised her hand in a fist to slam into my face. I closed my eyes and braced myself for the impact.

“…. ENOUGH!. Training is over, get out of here”, the commander barked at us.

I heard the others leave but Zoe still stayed on top of me. Then she leaned into my neck, I know your secret.

I shifted away from her and she forced me to stay still. I stopped struggling and asked, “ Humor me, what secret am I hiding cat”.

“You got skill, I’ll give you that. But there is something missing.”,

She leans in again and takes a deep sniff of my scent.

“Oh I see, You don’t have a wolf, pup”, she smiled triumphantly in my face.

I do need a solid plan B sooner….
