Amber’s POV

“Yes you’re right, I don’t have a wolf”, I told her

There’s no need to tell her about my strong white wolf when she is dormant.

“However, I have something you’re very interested in”, I said with a sly smile. “If you stop grinding against me I can think clearly”.

“Ew.. I was never grinding against you fat omega”, Zoe says with an embarrassed blush.

“But you were”, I replied with a sad pout, and she immediately got off me. I brush away the hand she extends to me and get up on my own.

“So, what is it you think I need?”, Zoe says

“You like the gentleman I came with. You and every other female who sees me as the threat, but I'm not… for now”, I taunt her

“I can give you an advantage over the others but I will need something else in return”

“You don’t get to bargain here newbie. Also I don’t like Alpha Da..”, she stops then continues, “I meant I don't like the Alpha”

“Which of the Alpha’s don’t we like.. cat”, I brush the dirt off my palm and start circling around her slowly, “Alpha Derrick or Dave”, I press on, maybe she will slip on and get me some answers to our first day incident here.

“We.. I recognize only one Alpha of Eaglestone and that is Alpha Derrick. However I will like to know what you can offer, maybe it could get me to reconsider ”, she says

“Well.. I guess I assumed wrong. Since you do not like Dave, I don’t think we should discuss it any further”, I turn to leave

“Stop. Okay you win. Damn, you’re impossible. His presence is commanding even without him uttering a word. He is very handsome and attractive spare a girl”, she blurts out

I didn’t mean to but I burst into laughter. Seeing her fawn over Dave when Annabel didn’t even blink twice in rejecting him was not on my bingo card. Who knew Zoe had a heart.

She grabbed a hand full of my hair and lifted my face to meet hers.

“Zoe… Zoe you really need to stop trying to seduce me”, I whisper against her lips and blow a kiss to her.

She pushes me back and says, “Don’t be stupid omega pup, now what do you want in return”.

I pretended to be thinking then I said, “A kiss”.

I watched her shift through at least three different reactions from shocked to embarrassed to defensive. Then I corrected, “I don’t have anything in mind yet, but I will collect it later. In the meantime we are not friends, keep being the mean bitch you are”

I don’t wait for her reply, I walk away.

I feared news of my conduct at practice would have reached Alpha Derrick so I quietly slipped into my room.

I soaked myself in a hot bath to help with my healing. Zoe really did a number on me even without using her wolf. She would be a great mate for Dave.

I convinced myself that if I want to regain my rank on the battlefield I would need a strong ally. One who wouldn’t hide behind the shadows to cause malice like Annabel did.

I got dressed and headed out to look for Dave. He has been unavailable a lot since we got here. I do see the Alpha more than I see him which is weird because it should be the other way round.

A maid informed me that she saw him go towards the Alpha’s office and I raced after him. I couldn’t clearly hear what they were saying but it looked like they were in an argument.

As I turned to leave I heard, “You cannot protect her from the truth forever”. It was Alpha Derrick’s voice. I got lost in my thoughts that I didn’t hear the door open and close.

“Are you hurt?”, I heard Dave ask as he wrapped his arms around me. “Let’s get out of here, you can tell me about training”, he took my hands and we headed out.

He had a pissed look on his face but his grip on my hand was gentle. As if sensing that I was staring at him, he managed to put on a half smirk but didn’t turn to look at me. I stopped looking at him also and we silently made it to my room.

“What was that about?”, I asked

“Nothing”, he replied with ease and took a seat on my bed

“You know it's rude to make yourself at home on my bed”, I said

He smoothed the fabric over the bed and said, “It feels so cold on here, you do owe me a thank you for the warmth darling”.

I rolled my eyes and sat in front of my vanity.

“How was your day”, he asked

“Cool, I was a bit late but it was fun”, I said. “Enough of me, I heard you yelling back there, what was it about?”.

“Nothing”, he said again

I lay the brush down and said, “You really have to do more than nothing Dave, we are a team”.

He smiled and got up from the bed. Then he started walking towards me, and I also got up and turned to face him. After Cornel and my dad, I promised to not be intimidated by another man or woman.

I thought he would stop when he got in front of me but he didn’t. He kept pressing forward until our feet touched. I felt a flush of embarrassment and stepped back until I was trapped between the vanity and him. I grabbed the edge of the table to steady myself as I leaned backward against the vanity. He didn’t break eye contact as he also leaned into me. He slowly brushed his hands against my arms then wrapped it around my palms against the table's edge.

Heat rushed all through my body. His eyes grew dark with lust, I guess I'm not the only one affected. My heart started pounding loudly in my ears. My eyes voluntarily closed and I puckered my lips waiting for him to claim them with his.

I could feel his breath against my lips now. The moral l me was screaming to not submit to my desires but I couldn’t care less.

There was no Lana to talk me out of it.

At this moment I realized how lonely I had become over the past two years. I haven’t felt this desired by a man in a long time and I would not back out this time.

It's just going to be a one time thing, I assured myself. We both need this, just this once. Dear Annabel, karma is here.
