“What are you trying to do?”

My eyes were still shut, my breathing was hoarse but somehow my mouth betrayed me. I just had to ruin the moment.

“Nothing”, and he went stiff

That was all I got from him. He removed his hands and backed away from me like I was a plague.

“Don’t start forming any ideas in your head, I still love your sister.”

I watched him run his hands through his raven short hair as he paced back and forth in my room.

“You love my sister?”, I scoff

“News flash, she dumped you for a man with status.”

I walked up to him as I asked, "Does that refresh your memory?”

He stops pacing and gets in my face with a look of disdain in his eyes, “And you? What's to say you wouldn’t do the same too?

After all you both share the same blood”.

Slap. Slap.

I raised my hand to hit him again… he caught my hand in time and closed the space between us

“Should have exhibited this energy on your ex and your family my love”

He let go and headed towards the door

“I am not my sister, never make that comparison again”, I scream after him as he leaves.

“I’m in love with your sister”, I mimic

I heave a sigh and lay on my bed. It still smells like Dave. I shake off his memory, get up and take off the sheets.

I still can’t believe he just acted like that over a near kiss. I didn’t even want to kiss him. He came unto me, but somehow I’m like my sister?

I get to unpacking the rest of my belongings. It's only been two weeks over here, I wonder how well the pack is doing back at home.

I made sure to leave them a slow burning surprise.

I smile as I remember the exact timeline, 3 months is all they have until hell breaks lose on them.

They’re in for a surprise if they thought they got rid of me that easily.

Something falls from the book I picked. It was grandma’s favorite locket. It had a picture of a silver wolf. Grandma used to tell me back when I was a child, “You are rare, my child.”

I interpreted it then as being a freak because I couldn’t shift although I had Lana. Grandma and Elsa my best friend knew I had been communicating with my wolf but no one else knew.

That is why Annabel has always been our parents favourite.

Elsa had been away to London when the mating ceremony took place. She would have gone crazy on Cornel. I laughed thinking about her antics.

For the rest of the pack, they all respected me because I was a great fighter. And because my mate was their Alpha.

Nobody questioned how we both knew we were mates. They assumed he pitied the young girl who has always had a crush on him.

He didn’t even ask, I sometimes wondered if his dad forced him to honor our bond.

“Enough of the old”, I scolded myself and put the chain on. “

“I miss you Lana.”

Dinner was very tense. Dave and I barely made eye contact and when our hands collided on the same item he went stiff.

Things also seemed tense between him and the Alpha. I'm guessing it's from their heated argument earlier.

“Amber, I spoke with the commander and we think it’s best you have a personal training of your own”

I drop my fork on the plate and look at the Alpha

“Its not permanent, it’s just until you can keep up with them”, he casually adds

“Yes yes of course it's not permanent. I really was a fool, huh.”

“It’s not always about you”, Dave interrupted

“Of course it’s not, you’re an expert at reminding me of that lately. Thanks a lot for having my back.. Dave”

I excused myself from the table before I could cry or scream or break something.

“Let her go”, I heard him say

I spent the next 3 months training on my own and working on my speed. News that I had disrespected the Alpha spread all over so I wasn’t the favourite anymore. I appreciated the opportunity to escape my people for a while but now I wanted to go elsewhere.

I absentmindedly walked into the pack house avoiding the sneers from the maids when I heard my full name.

“Amber Andrea Cole.”

I would recognise that voice and authority anywhere.
