blood on the huntresses blade

The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the deserted streets. Helena crouched in the shadows, the thick most of the night helping to conceal her, heart pounding with adrenaline as she scanned the area for any sign of movement. The air was thick with the scent of fear and the coppery tang of blood. She knew she was getting closer to her target, a rogue vampire who had been terrorizing the town for weeks.

Suddenly, a figure darted out from behind a building, moving so fast that it was just a blur. Helena reacted on instinct, whipping out her silver blade and charging towards the vampire. The two engaged in a fierce battle, their movements too quick for the human eye to follow. Helena felt the cold, dead fingers of the vampire closing around her throat, squeezing tighter and tighter until she could feel the life being choked out of her. With a fierce determination, she managed to break free, delivering a swift kick to the vampire's chest that sent him hurtling backwards. She stood over the fallen vampire, her chest heaving as she prepared to deliver the final blow. But as she looked down at the creature at her feet, something stirred in her heart. Despite everything she knew about the evils of vampires, there was a part of her that couldn't help but feel a twinge of pity for the dying creature. That twinge did not last long as she swung her blade and swiftly decapitated it.

The mist parted to allow her teacher and trainer, her uncle, Alaric Van Helsing. His clothes were well-worn and practical, with a long leather coat that had seen better days and a battered top hat that he never seemed to take off. As he spoke, his voice was rough as if he never used it, although she knew that to be a lie.

"I should have taken you half the time to track that thing down. Perhaps your training isn't quite finished."

Helena wished that she could wipe the smug look of his face as he said what he had been saying every solo hunt she did.

"Or perhaps I require a better teacher?" she replied back, knowing that it would irk him just enough that she wouldn't likely face retaliation.

Quicker than a thought a blade was at her throat.

"If you and I weren't the last of our line, those would have been the last words you spoke."

She wiped her blade clean on the vampires clothes. Contrary to popular belief vampires did not crumble into dust upon death. Instead she was left with a mess she had to clean up before any humans noticed. She walked over to the pack she had stashed earlier and pulled out the sheet of plastic she kept for body disposal.

"Are you going to help or just stand there criticising?" she said but as she turned to her uncle, all that was there was the mist swirling through the night. She hurried through the process of wrapping the body, making sure the head was indeed in there, she had made that mistake before, and proceeded to carry it to her waiting pick up truck.

The pick-up truck was a rugged, utilitarian vehicle, designed to tackle any terrain and withstand any challenge. Its body was made of sturdy metal, with a raised suspension and oversized tires that made it ideal for off-road adventures. The paint job was a faded shade of blue, with rust spots and dents scattered across its surface like battle scars. Basically it was the perfect vehicle in which to not attract notice.

Jumping into the drivers seat after depositing her cargo in the back, she breathed a sigh of relief.

"I made I through another hunt" she thought, her mind drifting to the memory of the night her parents hadn't returned. Steeling herself, she turned the key and set off into the waiting night.
