The Hunter's Call

The hunter's safe house was a fortress of sorts, hidden away in a remote corner of the countryside. Its walls were thick and sturdy, made of rough-hewn stone that had been weathered by centuries of wind and rain. The windows were narrow and barred, and the heavy wooden door was reinforced with steel bolts and a deadbolt lock. Inside, the house was sparsely furnished, with only the bare essentials necessary for survival. The living room was dominated by a large fireplace, where a blazing fire crackled and flickered, casting shadows across the room. The walls were adorned with various weapons, including silver blades and stakes, as well as maps and charts detailing the locations of known vampire lairs. In the corner of the room, a large wooden table served as the hunters' command center, where they could plan their attacks and strategize their next moves. Despite its austere appearance, the safe house was a place of refuge for the hunters, a sanctuary where they could rest and regroup before heading out on their next mission.

Displayed proudly above the fireplace rows upon rows of master vampires fangs lined the wall. Master vampires over 500 years old are among the oldest and most powerful of their kind. They have survived countless battles, witnessed the rise and fall of empires, and accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience that sets them apart from their younger counterparts. These vampires are often solitary creatures, preferring to keep to themselves and avoid the conflicts that come with ruling over a group of vampires. However, when they do choose to engage in battle, their power is unmatched, and even the most skilled vampire hunters must proceed with caution. To face a master vampire is to face, for the majority of hunters, death.

Helena strode into the room, a trail of mud following in her wake.

"Well, well, well look what the cat dragged in? Did you get lost or something?" Viktor mocked.

"I wish I had gotten lost rather than have to see you as soon as I walk in." she retorted.

"Is that anyway to speak to your betrothed?" he sneered, knowing full well she hated the fact that her future, as the last of the van helsings was being decided for her.

"well... I guess you could always be my first husband. I could easily become a black widow if I had to marry you."

"you will be mine" he said striding forward and grabbing her arm hard. "it has already been decided."

Ripping her arm out of his hand, she smiled as he stared at the mud coating it, as if it hadn't occurred to him just how dirty she was. "the real question though" she said as she stepped away, heading towards the dorms. "is whether or not you are alive enough to keep me."

**********************************************

The council of hunters had gathered in the dimly-lit conference room, their faces set in stern determination as they discussed their next move. In the center of the room stood a large, circular table, around which the hunters were gathered. At the head of the table sat Alaric Van Helsing, his piercing gaze scanning the faces of the assembled hunters.

"Our intelligence tells us that the rogue vampire, Drake, has been spotted in this area," he said, his voice low and authoritative. "We cannot allow him to continue his reign of terror unchecked. We must take him down, and soon."

A murmur of agreement rippled through the room, and several hunters nodded their assent.

"But who among us is best suited to the task?" Van Helsing continued. "Drake is a formidable opponent, and we must choose our hunter carefully."

The room fell silent as the hunters considered their options. Finally, a young woman spoke up.

"I will hunt Drake," she said, her voice firm and unwavering.

Helena's declaration was met with a mix of surprise and admiration from the other hunters. She was young and relatively inexperienced compared to many of the others at the table, but there was a fire in her eyes that spoke of a determination and resolve that could not be ignored.

Van Helsing regarded her for a moment, then nodded his approval.

"Very well," he said. "Helena, you have our blessing. May the hunter's creed guide and protect you in your mission."

"With all due respect, Van Helsing, " Viktor said, his voice dripping with skepticism. "Helena is young and inexperienced. She has never faced an opponent like Drake before. It's too risky to send her out on her own and being the last female of your line, she should stay here. "

The other hunters murmured their agreement, casting uneasy glances at Helena, who stood at the back of the room, her eyes fixed on the floor.

Van Helsing raised a hand, silencing the room.

"Viktor, we appreciate your concern," he said. "But we have faith in Helena's abilities. She has proven herself to be a skilled and dedicated hunter, and we believe she is up to the task."

Viktor opened his mouth to protest, but Van Helsing cut him off.

"That is our decision, Viktor," he said firmly. "And it is final."

The room fell silent, and Viktor reluctantly nodded his assent. He knew better than to argue with the council's decision, but he couldn't shake the feeling of unease that settled in the pit of his stomach. He had a bad feeling about this mission, and he couldn't shake the feeling that things were going to end badly.

Helena stood at the back of the room, feeling numb with shock. She had always looked up to her uncle, and his approval meant everything to her. But now that she had it, she wasn't sure she was ready for the task ahead.

She had heard Viktor's objections, and a part of her agreed with him. Drake was a master vampire, and the most dangerous opponent she had ever faced. But she couldn't let her doubts show. She had to believe in herself, in her training, and in the hunter's creed.

As the other hunters began to file out of the room, Helena approached her uncle.

"Thank you, uncle," she said, her voice shaking slightly. "I won't let you down."

Van Helsing gave her a small smile.

"I know you won't, Helena," he said. "You have a strong spirit, and a keen eye. Trust in your training, and remember what the vampires have done to our family."

Helena nodded, feeling a surge of determination rising within her. She would not let her mentor down, nor would she let her own doubts hold her back. She was a hunter, and she would face this challenge head-on.
