CHAPTER SIXTY SEVEN

KENZ’S POV

Breakfast felt weird.

I couldn’t explain why, but the whole table felt quieter than usual. Normally, breakfast at the Alexis house was loud enough to make you forget you were eating. Toria would be talking about something random, Mrs. Alexis would be complaining about somebody not eating enough, and Dan would somehow find a way to annoy everyone before he even finished his first plate.

Today, nobody was really saying much.

I sat at the table with my glass of apple

  • what we shouldn't be   YOU NEVER WANTED ME ?

CHAPTER SEVENTY FOURFIONA’S POVSomething was definitely wrong with Kenz. For days, I’d texted and called him, but still. None of them were responded to.At first, I assumed he was busy. Then I thought I annoyed him. My head was filled with thoughts on why Kenz didn’t return any of my calls or texts. He never ignored me, not like this. I took a deep sigh and stared at our chat for a minute. My last message was still sitting there. Are you okay? That was it. I was still left on delivered.I took another sigh and tossed my phone onto my bed. Today was a new day. If he wasn’t going to answer me, I’m going to find him myself.“Fuck, I have to be at Mum’s appointment.” I said, while pinching the bridge of my nose.I picked up the tossed phone from my bed and texted my mum. I wasn’t going to make it today. And even though she was more important, I needed answers.I can’t make it today mummy, I have school work. Love ya.Now that was over, I needed to be at the Alexis house soon.I grabbed

CHAPTER SEVENTY THREE KENZ’S POV I woke up much later than I usually did. For a few seconds I just stared at the ceiling trying to remember why my chest felt so heavy. Then everything came back. Dan. Toria. The conversation. The betrayal. I closed my eyes again because I did not want to think about any of it. I reached for my glasses on the nightstand and slowly sat up. My room was unusually quiet. No footsteps outside. No Toria knocking on my door. No stupid voice asking if I was awake. Nothing at all. I rubbed my face before getting out of bed. I needed water. Maybe food. Maybe just something to distract my mind from the mess that was still sitting in my head. I walked downstairs slowly. The moment I reached the living room I noticed something right away. Her suitcase was gone. I stopped walking and stared toward the spot where Toria usually left her things. It was completely empty. For some reason seeing it made everything feel more real. She was actually gone. I knew sh

CHAPTER SEVENTY TWOTORIA’S POVI barely slept last night. Anytime I closed my eyes, I saw Kenz’s face. The face he had on when he walked into me and Dan’s conversation. Betrayed. Confused. Shocked. Like he couldn’t decide which one hit him first. My suitcase was already packed by the corner edge of my bed. I kept staring at it like I was in a staring contest. My head was filled with nothing but the thoughts of me betraying my best friend.I slept with his ex.And now Dan was in the middle of it somehow too. I couldn’t stop replaying the second Kenz’s eyes found mine. The way the air changed. The way everything I’d been trying to bury just sat there in the open.I kept telling myself it was one night. That it didn’t have to mean everything. But at three in the morning, with the suitcase staring back at me, it felt like the only thing that meant anything.I took a deep sigh and paced round the four corners of my room.I was actually leaving New York. And the thought hadn’t really dawne

CHAPTER SEVENTY ONEDAN'S POV“What did you guys share?”My heart dropped hard when I heard that. Kenz stood right there in the doorway staring at both of us like he had just walked into something he was never meant to see. His face looked pale but his eyes were full of anger mixed with confusion and a whole lot of hurt. I knew exactly what he had overheard and there was no point pretending otherwise.I opened my mouth and tried to get something out.“Kenz…”He looked at me first then shifted his gaze over to Toria and then back to me again.“What did you guys share?”His voice came out louder this time and it made the air in the room feel heavier. I swallowed and forced myself to answer.“It’s not what you think.”His laugh was quiet and there was nothing funny about it at all.“It’s never what I think.”“Kenz, just listen to me.”“Listen to you?”He stepped further into the room and kept talking.“First it was Ethan.”My chest tightened the second he said that name.“Now Toria?”“To

CHAPTER SEVENTYTORIA’S POVThe front door slammed so hard that the glass almost slipped from my hand. I turned toward the entrance and watched Dan walk in, but the moment I saw his face, whatever I had been about to say died in my throat.Something was wrong. Really wrong. His jaw was locked, his shoulders were stiff, and there was something about the way he carried himself that made me stop what I was doing. He looked like he was barely holding himself together. I could feel the tension coming off him from across the room. My grip tightened on the glass without me meaning to.“Dan?”He didn't answer. He walked straight past me without even looking in my direction. I stood there for a second, still holding the glass, waiting for him to at least glance my way. He didn’t.I frowned and watched him head for the stairs. “Dan?”Nothing.I set the glass down on the counter and followed him, the uneasiness in my stomach getting worse with every step. I had never seen him like this, not even

CHAPTER SIXTY NINE KENZ POV I really just wanted to bury my face in my pillow and sleep the whole day. I had spent my night thinking about what Ethan said. My head just kept replaying those words. We kissed. It felt like I was living my worst nightmare already. My only plan was to sleep and forget everything clouding up in my head. But I guess that plan was cut short when I heard soft knocks coming from my door. It opened a moment later, and Mrs. Alexis stepped in with a bright smile already on her face. “Good morning, Aunt,” I said while cleaning the lens of my glasses. She took a step forward and finally settled at the edge of my bed, sitting next to me. Mrs. Alexis grabbed my chin and smiled. “My baby looks a little bit tired. Seems like school isn’t the only thing making you look less handsome,” she teased. I gasped. “How dare you?” I widened my eyes, pretending to be deeply wounded. “You just look stressed, my baby. I’m genuinely worried.” Before she c

Kenz's POV Chapter THREE “Shit,” I muttered under my breath. Jeremy pulled away from me so fast it almost made me laugh, but it would be stupid to do that with my situation right now. “Kenz?” my sister called again from outside my door. My stomach dropped. I was as good as dead. Ellie was

Kenz’s POV Chapter TWO I stared at the text for so long, not knowing what to do. Why the hell was Jeremy texting me? He had ignored me completely after spending the entire summer together, yet those few words he sent shifted something in me, and I really hated it. I finally decided to reply,
