Chapter 41
We run inside the cave and blinding darkness invites us. I can't even see Jessica beside me. I look around and find no source of light. Even the entrance is gone. The only thing that's flashing are the digits of my timer watch in neon red. As they said, the timer has already started. Indistinct voices of people wave around. They are certainly the other students looking for their way. I take a step ahead and just then, the waves of something strange enwrap me. It's as if the air beside me is shifting. And it tells me I should duck. I do so and nothing happens. The energy disappears and a scream erupts under the darkness in front.  What happened? Finding no other way, I keep taking small steps until the air shifts again and this time before I can duck again, something hard and flesh hits my face. I fall on the ground with a thud, hitting my ass in the process. Just then, something heavy and flesh falls over me making me grunt in pain. "Ugh! Bloo

Chapter 42
I slowly flutter my eyes open to the warm light. Everything is hazy and my head feels like a bag of heavy stones. I grit my teeth and hold my head. A warm hand touches my shoulder. I blink a few times to adjust to the vision until the blurred images take a shape and I see a girl sitting at my side. For some reason, I know that girl. Her hazel brown eyes look at me with sheer concern. Where have I seen that before?  Her lips move apart to speak. "Cinn? Are you alright?" Cinn? Hmm. I know someone who calls me by that name. Oh wait. I know her! Tessa!  My eyes shoot open and I look around myself. The place is familiar. The same curtains and the rows of beds. All of a sudden my throat feels dry. "Water." I manage to spell out and Tessa rushes to get me a glass of water. The liquid down my throat feels like heaven. Water is heaven. Especially when you are parched.  "Where am I?" My hoarse voice cr

Silence. Only the ticking sound of the clock and the birds chirping outside stay profound in the room. Even the sounds of my heartbeat ring in my ears. What will he say?  "You...want me to train you?" Tristian raises his eyebrows.  "Yes."  He chuckles and looks down. "Are you joking? Or do you mean it?"  "Do I look like one who would lay a prank like this?"  He clicks his tongue. "Not really. But why?"  "It's simple. You are the Academy champion. And I want to be the next. What's better than to learn from the best?" I say.  "Now I am worried. Complement from Miss Aurora Hemsworth? Hmm. I didn't come prepared." He clutches his heart dramatically. "Poor me. "   I roll my eyes at him. "Would you help me or not?"  "Why would you think tha

Chapter 44
"A cloaking spell huh? Not bad. But I don't know how to do it. Then who will you ask to do the dirty work?" Alex saysI frown. "But you won the contest, Alex. You should know the spell, shouldn't you?" Alex licks his lips. "Uh, I didn't really tell you the whole story, did I?" "Uhh,no?" "The thing is…" he motions his hands forward. "Branson did most of the work. He told me the exact steps to win the contest and I just followed them. He also told me that he will have my back. So when I was going through those challenges, he maybe did some spell or something, but everything happened on it's own. I just had to go through it." "Oh." I look down in thought. I surely wasn't expecting that. And for some reason, I wanted to hear that he did it because of his hard work. "Then, we approach Branson." "I don't think that's a great idea, Aurora. He helped me a lot. He did a lot for us. And we are just tak

This time I lean close to her and whisper. "About the Kyle thing. Tristian is the Alpha of this place. I'm sure he knows a good deal."    "How can you be so sure?" She whispers back.    "Uh…" Shit! I can't tell her that Tristian saved me the day of that weird creature's attack. Nor can I talk about how I eavesdropped on his conversation and he caught me. Moon God! I sound like a stalker. "Isn't it obvious? He is in charge of this Academy so he must know things. Else, he's not worthy of being an Alpha. Duh!"    "Yeah, right…" She nods her head. "But would he tell you?"    "That's the point. He may not. I have to convince him enough so that he can tell me everything he knows."   "Doesn't sound easy. Last time, he threatened you about Branson's case. I don't think he's easy on trust." Tessa adds.    "How do you know? I mea

Chapter 46
I stand still, rooted to the ground as it's my only life support. Tessa stands in front of me with big round eyes that stare at the back of me. Tristian walks in front of us and looks at us casually. "What is going on here?"  Tessa exchanges a look with me and I gulp the lump in my throat. I don't understand what I am more stressed about. The way his skin shines under the ray of sunlight falling from the huge window beside us or that whether he heard our conversation or not. Calm. Take a deep breath. Act normal. "We were just talking. Girl stuff."  Tristian raises an eyebrow and looks at Tessa who smiles and nods her head. "Well, alright. So be it."  "But,why are you here?" I ask.  "You have a bad memory of Barbie doll. We had a deal, remember? So, today is your training." He says and a lopsided grin marks effortlessly on his lips. Oh how can I forget about the deal.

Chapter 47
"Are you serious?" I walk around the place, my arms holding my hips and my mind lost out of all reasons as to why we are going to play football!  "Absolutely. Do I look like a joking person to you?" Tristian says. I turn at him and raise my eyebrows. He tilts his head. "Alright, maybe I do. But I am serious about this one. We will be playing football today." He drops the ball on the grass and holds it with his one leg balancing over it's head.  "If this screws up, you are so dead!" I say and he smirks.  "Is that a threat Barbie doll?" His face darkens for a flash of a second. "Because I thought I am the one who gives them." All the hair in my body stands straight. And irrespective of fear and anger, all other types of feelings whirl inside my body like a wave. Why does it feel so—sexy?  "Whatever." I scoff and turn around to hide my face from him. My cheeks fee

Chapter 48
"You guys did what?" Tessa knits her eyebrows and gapes at me.  "We played football." I say and hop on the bed.  "But—b—how is that a part of the training? I mean, does the second contest have a football match?"  "I don't know. All I can do is either trust him or lose the only mentor I have now." I put a pillow on my lap. Since the time I came back, I can't shake off the time that we had when I was over him. And I am definitely not including that as a part of the training for Tessa.  She sighs and sits in front of me. "It's weird. I never heard of something like this. I wish Gav was so sporty. All he made us do was sit-ups, push ups and sword fighting. "  "I know right." I smile. " But it did help us somehow."  "Yeah. But that's not the point. The point is, do you trust the Alpha? I mean what if he is pl

"Mom?" My voice breaks as I choke on my tears.  "Aurie! It's you!" She screams in joy and sniffs. "I have been missing you so much. Where are you? And why did you run away?"  "Mom, I—I can't explain it to you right now. You won't understand."  "Why wouldn't I,sweetie? All my life I supported you. But leave that, how are you? Are you safe?"  I close my eyes to restrain my tears and exhale sharply. "Yes mom. I am completely fine. How are you? How is everyone?"  "We are not good, sweetie. Thomas has been crying since you are gone and your dad is so silent. He doesn't talk to anyone. He locked himself in his room and MoonGod knows what he's doing."  "Oh, I'm so sorry. I know I screwed up mom. But I...I thought this is the best option."  "But where are you, honey? Is it far?"

Chapter 50
I don't feel like waking up from my bed… I lay there, for half of the day, thinking about my fault. "Cinn? Are you sick?" Tessa pulls the cover off my body and I grunt.  "No, I'm fine. I just—I don't want to wake up."  "Huh? But why?" She tilts her head and sits on my bed.  I sit on the bed, with my hair all over the place and wearing my PJs. "Last night, mom called me."  "Salty sugars! How?"  "She searched in my room or I don't know...did some spell." I move my hands frantically. "She told me that—" I gulp in the lump of my throat. Everytime I think about it, I feel terrible.  Tessa sighs and rubs my back. "It's okay. We can talk about it later—"  "One of our pack members is dead!" I say out loud.
