“And I picked her up, and though she was pretty, I could see she really wasn’t the type I was looking for. I did see, though, she was the type my father would want to be associated with.” Max said, and Henni looked at him a little funny, “She had money. My dad was a working type. He was a man’s man from that time. To have his son connected to that family would have made all his dreams come true.”“Oh, I see,” Henni said. “So what happened next? I didn’t go to a prom. I didn’t even go to high school.”“Lucky.” He said with a smirk. “We went to the dance. The more I got to know her, the more I knew this was a one-time thing, but she kept talking about how this was going to last forever and ever. It seemed she had mad

Mack and Max went into the office after Christian arrived, and even though the kids were all outside, the noise was overwhelming. Mack laughed as Max looked at him with widened eyes. “You learn to live with it.”“It is making me rethink the fact I want a few of those monsters,” Max said.“Well, if you want a few of those, you do have to do what Henni said,” Mack said as he looked at the younger man.“I know,” Max said as the thought passed through his mind. He didn’t want to think about how she was so preceptive that she could see the entire thing without even really trying. That was a problem and a solution at the same time.“We all have our issues, Max.” Mack said, “Now, what brought this all on in the first place. Though I know my wife often know

Max went back to his house again. The silence met him like an old friend. He started his normal routine of removing his clothes in various places of the house to make it easier to know where they were for the next day’s use. Sometimes on Sunday, he had a few hours to unwind, but this pace of pushing himself was getting old.The words that Mack had said to him were still echoing in his mind. He couldn’t get rid of them. No matter how hard he tried, he kept hearing them over and over. It was when he sat down on the couch in his boxers, and he looked around to the emptiness of the house, and he closed his eyes for a minute he really knew that he wanted something different than what was in front of him. This was stale, and he was tired of it.   “Well, that explains some of the change in you. Definitely, more than you used to be.” Harry said as he looked at him. He looked Max up and down, trying to size him up. “Why did you leave the military?”“I was medically discharged after being shot in the shoulder,” Max said as he looked at the other man. Knowing that sometimes having such a relaxed conversation, he could learn a lot more about the people involved. He looked at the man as he offered him a spot on a very well-used couch as a few of the kids came out of the hallway off t the side. They had to be the older kids that Samantha had before she was married to Harry. They were close to nine or ten.“Dad, can we go out and play?” The oldest girl asked. As Max looked at the girl, he could see why people might have thought she could be his. There were a lot of resemblances. Though he could see some of his brother in the gir

As Max handed in the evidence and then got the receipt for them, he went to his office and then made the call to his captain instead of going into the office. “Hi, Anderson.”“How did you know it was me calling you?” Max asked as he chuckled.“Well, I can see you and the fact I just got a phone call confirming again that you were the one handling this case even though they requested a different detective to handle the case.” The man said as Max laughed to himself.“Well, that is why I was calling you to tell you I do believe my first thoughts were wrong,” Max said.“Hold on.” The man said as he got up and hung up the phone. He walked through the room that separated the two offices. He walked into the office and then shut the door
