Chapter X
The sound of wine dripping up to the tip of his cup was his sign for the servant to stop, the prince then gulps it in one go, emptying it in seconds. Still naked on his chair, prince Alexander remained quiet as he brooded on the second time that he has failed, he could not understand where he went wrong as he tried to control himself in order to make sure that the maiden was not harmed, he knew she was still breathing before they slumbered but when he woke up the woman was no longer breathing, and like all his previous concubine it looked like they were completely dried up. Infuriated by the mystery he raises his cup for it to be filled, making his two advisers move to intervene from the excessive drinking. “Please sire, don’t be so down on yourself, what happened was just inevitable,” lord Aizenberg’s voice was one that of soothing, trying to calm his lord. Yet Alexander just

Chapter XI
“Wake up!” A deep voice shouted. Several others grumbled as cold water splashed on Karilaya’s face, making her jolt from her slumber as she gasped for air. Flailing her hands up in the air, she tried to make out what was happening but before she could even open her eyes, hands were roughly grabbing her shoulder and hands. The princess was unable to do anything but scream in fear and surprise but was instantly silent when she was pushed down, face to the ground. She was about to speak out a spell when she felt the weight on her throat when she tried. “It would be wise if you do not try anything,” a deep and dark voice whispered to her ear before she felt her hair get pulled. This time Karilaya was finally able to open her eyes, though her vision was still not that clear she was now able to see that she was being surrounded by several people. “My lady?&rdq

Chapter XII
Dread and remorse were nudging at Karilaya, feeling her chest pound from the strong beat of her heart as the door to the throne room opened. She could not help the lump on her throat from forming, seeing the people that were now sitting there. Before she would be the one on that chair now she was on the other side of the receiving end, looking up at the being who was the cause of all her demise. Karilaya was being held by two soldiers on each side all the while chained. She was having mixed emotions right now, mainly they were fear cause she was scared that she’d make a mistake and put everyone who had helped her in danger, anxiety, thinking that she may not be able to hold her ground like what the captain wanted, anger because she was now facing the man that had killed his father, wounded her brother and took their castle, and awkwardness cause no matter how she felt right now, there was a part in her mind that kept reminding her about that thing be

Chapter XIII
She had never expected to be in this predicament right now, she never knew that the man would move so fast. The whole throne room was now filled with different kinds of ingredients, starting from vegetables, fruits, meat, poultry up to the spices and root crop, besides that the pots, pans, and cauldron were set up along with a hearth, and a makeshift oven was also built along with it, it only took them half a day to have it all placed in there, even the fresh pigs blood was readily available together with a whole pig that was neatly prepared on a nearby table. It was already midmorning so Karilaya had plenty of time to rest up, but she did not expect that her whole trial would proceed immediately. “Well, what are you waiting for? Cook!” lord Aizenberg howled as she just stood there. Karilaya was still a bit dazed from being woken up while in the dungeon and then being brought once again in the throne room onl

Chapter XIV
Prince Alexander could not remove his eyes off of the lady, finely handling the knife as she cut and slice. It was like he was watching a maiden dance to a natural rhythm while moving within the make-shift kitchen that they had made. She was like this fairy twirling around her little kingdom, making the fire burn with life and the food smell with hypnotic aroma. The prince was so enthralled that he did not notice that he was smiling under his helmet, all the while watching the maiden finish up her dish. His little personal world was only disturbed when all of a sudden he felt lord Aizenberg move about just beside him as the maiden was already preparing the food on a plate. “I don’t think you should eat it, my lord, this woman might have done something to it without us knowing,” lord Aizenberg whispers, looking wary and a bit worried as the maiden in question was now finishing her dish. “Lord

Chapter XV
Whispers, this was all that Karilaya could hear from where she was sitting. She couldn’t understand what the three men were saying to one another as she was a bit too far and she couldn’t move from where she was because all eyes were still basically at her. Her palms were sweating and her body felt so cold just being in front of the three men, she knew she was still under trial, seeing as how the men looked at her, what she could not understand is what was the reason why they seem to be so secretive even to the people around them. Deep in thought, Karilaya was startled when finally the three men had stopped talking to one another and began moving. “Everyone out!” the commander hollered making everyone move in a single line as they marched out of the whole throne room. Only Karilaya, the Black Knight, and his two advisers and three fully plated soldiers were left inside. Even t

Chapter XVI
Karilaya stood frozen when she realized where she was, so many things came playing inside her mind. Was she found out, do they know her, why exactly was she here, and for what reason? Those were the things that kept plaguing her mind when she was finally left within the confines of one of the royal guest rooms of the castle.   Though the place seemed the same, several things had been removed such as their banner and a few others things that showed the Lushan heritage and replaced with western empires.   Karilaya suddenly felt defeated right now, being caught halfway through it all, she could not understand how she ended up in that situation though she was so careful.   She took a peek at the terrace, three guards were stationed just below all looked well trained and were fully armored, she then proceeded to move towards the door silently and carefully nudging the door’s knob, it clanked but did not open.

Chapter XVII
“It seems you are not what you say you are. So tell me, who are you exactly,” the captain asks, as they were now threading the castle halls. It was already late afternoon and the sun was high up in the sky, besides that there were a ton of soldiers that were either patrolling around or standing guard on every corner of the place, so it wasn’t much of a problem for her walking along with the captain without a chaperon, besides the fact that she was still hiding her identity not to mention that even though she knows that the man was an enemy soldier she could not remove the reality that he has saved her before gaining her trust. “I am but a servant sire,” she answers making sure not to make eye contact with the man, remembering her nana’s advice a while ago. “The commander and the royal adviser actually have a different opinion on that,” the captain says giving her that trick

Chapter XVIII
“There’s currently a debate of whether you pose a danger to the prince or not, and if the leaders find out you are well versed in magic, that’s just going to make it even more complicated for the two of us since I did speak for you after all,” captain Maxwell admitted, forcing a laugh. Though it sounded like a big problem, the man did not show any fear at all as his face remained straight and seemingly unbothered but Karilaya could feel that tension that was seeping out of the man as he would sometimes end up in silence while they were walking. “Why...Why would you do that for me sire,” she could not help but say, feeling a bit guilty seeing as the man was being troubled. Captain Maxwell turned to her with an amused look, raising one brow as he smirked. “It is a knight's duty, to keep a lady safe, is it not,” he says with a playful tone. Though there ha

Chapter XIX
The full moon gave a mesmerizing blue glow that night, lighting up the whole kingdom from where she was. It was as if everything was like before if only there wasn’t so much misery and suffering that could be seen right now. From where she was the princess could see a lot of houses still left abandoned, broken, and burnt, people could be seen wandering around several parts of the town, scavenging for whatever food they could find, all the while trying to fend for themselves as some parts of the walls were broken down and the magical barrier was no longer there, allowing some of the beast to enter the town. Though the imperial guards would handle them every now and then, seeing as they do not bother to fix the walls only end up causing chaos and fear when night comes, as everyone no longer feels safe. Karilaya’s deep thought was only disturbed when she heard three loud thuds on the door, turning towards it she
