Chapter Seventy-four
Bridgette’s stomach churned again when she thought about what the undesirables were supposed to be. The whole situation was disgusting! She couldn’t help but wonder if Bernard had the same intentions for her. “What happened?” Kane asked, frowning as he came to stand next to her. “Come with me.” She whispered, turning to go inside. Kane quietly followed her back inside. Neither of them spoke a word as they descended into the bunker and sat in front of the lit up screens. Bridgette handed him some headphones and started the audio over. She didn’t know if she could bear to listen to it again. Bridgette stood in the back of the room, her arms crossed over her chest. She couldn’t think of an

“Do I know you?” He asked, frowning. “Let’s go inside and talk. I’ll explain everything then.” She said, turning to lead them inside.“You guys did well keeping my secret.” She said, pouring herself a cup of coffee.“What the hell is going on?” Machine demanded looking at the three of them. “I can see why you would have a hard time grasping what is going on since we haven’t seen each other in over eight years.” She said, taking a sip of her coffee. “After all, I look a lot different now.”“Machine, this is… it’s Margo.” Dex whispered, looking at the ground.

“Margo!” Kane protested. “Stop calling me by that name! Margo died eight years ago!” She yelled. “So you’re saying you’re not Margo?” Machine asked, frowning as he looked between them. “Using that name will just get people killed! Why do you two insist on it?” She demanded, sheathing her knife.“Because that is who you are!” Kane shouted. “Kane, leave it for now.” Dex sighed. “She’s safe here so why shouldn’t I?” He asked. “Did you forget how easy it was for us to bug Bernard’s comp

Chapter Seventy-seven
“Have you seen a seven year old little girl stand bravely in the face of evil? I have. Her eyes stayed on me even as they went down the line slitting their throats one by one, starting with my father. Down the line they went. Her head was held high even as they held a large serrated hunting knife to her throat. She didn’t shiver in fear even as they slowly dragged that damn knife back and forth across her neck like a goddamn saw. Do you know what I did? I could only sit there, crying as I tried to shield Anna from their brutality.” She said, whispering that last part. “Even then I failed.... I had been quiet the whole time, not saying a single word, clutching on to Anna for dear life. Do you think that they stopped there and just let us go?” She asked, eyeing them with fury. "No! They didn’t because as soon as the

Chapter Seventy-eight
“It’s all been taken care of.” Horatio said on the other end of the phone. “Good. You’ve done exceptionally well. Are you interested in doing that other job I mentioned?” Bernard asked. “Would this have to do with the ad that you placed?” He asked. “Yes. It seems that even the best haven’t been able to locate my missing songbird.” Bernard hummed. Horatio chuckled. He knew who he was referring to. They were indeed very good, but it would seem that their prey was even better. She had to be if Fabian had failed. “It would seem that your songbird is incredibly resourceful if she was about to elude Fabian. That alone is proof that

Chapter Seventy-nine
Bridgette sighed and leaned against the porch railing. Her mind was swimming with many thoughts as she tried to get in the right frame of mind. At this point she was just hoping that all of this madness would be over with. “What’s on your mind?” Kane asked, coming to stand next to her. “I just want all of this to be over with.” She whispered, looking out into the afternoon sky.  ‘I know.” Kane said, sitting on the porch steps.  “Hopefully I’ll be able to sleep after this.” She whispered. “Once this is all over I might take a vacation.”  Kane chuckled. He could understand how she felt.  She had been dealing with this for years. There was finally a light at the end of the tunnel for  her.

Bridgette stared through the lense of her camera at her prey wondering  why he hadn’t gone inside yet. He was just standing outside looking at the overcast sky. His  hands were in his pocket and he looked deep in thought until he grabbed for his phone. Bridgette watched as he held the phone to his ear as he answered the caller. She snapped a few more pictures until he went back inside. Once Bernard was inside she sighed and leaned back in her seat. She was lost in her thoughts until her phone ringing startled her. She yelped at first before reaching for her phone. She looked at the screen and saw a number that she didn’t quite recognize. “Hello?” She said, hesitantly. “We got her!” Spencer’s voice screamed with excitement. “We got her and so

Chapter Eighty-one
Bridgette sighed in relief as they watched people start to arrive for the auction. Her neck and back were hurting and she could barely feel her butt. They had moved the vehicle around to see the front of the warehouse and watch who was going in and out. After nearly fifteen minutes she turned on the bugs that she had placed in the warehouse. She was sitting in the back of the van that they had arrived in with her laptops set up.  “Do you really think that we’ll get anything off of these?” Kane asked.  “You have no idea how sick some of these auctions can be… Especially when they’re hosted by Bernard.” She mumbled. “Oh… well this is odd…” “What?” Kane asked, looking at the screens.  “The auction is running late…. So they’re putting on a show… Oh no… I c

Kane sighed and sat down next to her. He couldn’t help but wonder what was running through her mind at that moment. He would give anything to know what she was thinking. He used to wonder the same thing everytime she would stare off into space like that in the past. Sometimes it seemed like nothing had changed.  Kane watched the night sky as it sparkled, thinking about how drastically things had changed. He took a sip of his coffee and sighed as he leaned back in his seat. So many things had changed for them all, yet not much had changed. Margo was still living in hell and Bernard was still loose. Once again he found himself sighing.  “What’s wrong?” Bridgette whispered, looking at his reflection.  “Nothing’s wrong… I’m just thinking.”He said, taking another sip of his coffee.

Chapter Eighty-three
“In the end it wouldn’t have done me any good to go barging in there. Honestly, thinking of how I had to keep Sammy and Marco safe was the only thing that had kept me in my seat.” She said, sighing as she cradled her coffee mug in both hands.  “I just don’t get how you do it. The man never did anything to me and I could barely control myself. I don’t get how you do it…” Kane whispered. “It’s not  like I have much choice…” She whispered. “I’m no good to them if I’m in jail.”  “Bridgette, I’m a little worried… What if someone finds out and makes them stop the investigation?” Kane asked.  “Honestly?” She asked, turning to face him.  “Yes. We both know that there’s a chance that could happen.” Kane w
