I would recognize that voice anywhere. Only he could make my body respond the way it did to his voice. My heart knew he didn't belong with me then why couldn't my body get the memo?   I turned to face him.   "Who comes to a carnival without money?" I asked him, concealing whatever inner battle my heart was fighting against my body.   He smiled softly.   "I didn't say I came without money. I asked if you mind buying for me" he told me.   I scoffed and collected the cotton candies.   "Same difference" I responded   "Actually…."   "Yes" I answered flatly   "What?" He asked confused   "Yes, I mind buying for you" I answered again.   He laughed and I thought I'd faint right there. His laugh was throaty yet it sounded like melodious music to my ears. &nb

My head felt heavy and it hurt. I felt like bricks had been thrown at my head. I opened my eyes and blinked a few times so that my eyes could adjust to the lights that lit up the room. The smell of disinfectant wafted past my nose. I didn't like it, it made me want to puke. Only hospitals smelt strongly of disinfectant. I didn't die. I was in a hospital   A monitor beeped, prompting me to tilt my head to see where the sound came from. There was a drip attached to my left arm.   "Good morning Miss Andez" A doctor dressed in scrubs greeted me.   I tried smiling but my face felt glued together so I stayed still instead.   "How's your head?" the doctor asked.   He picked a pen from his pocket and started writing something on his pad.   "I'm going to need you to answer me Andez"   I liked the way he pronounced my name.   "

Chapter 32 I closed my laptop and let out a breath. I was done with sorting out work emails for today. My remaining plans for today included sleep and eating junk food. Nothing more. It was a near-perfect schedule. It would have been completely perfect if Lila hadn't come knocking at my door.   "Hey" Lila greeted with balloons in her hands.   I stood with my hands crossed against my chest, communicating to her that I wasn't letting her in. She seemed to understand because she nodded.   "These are for you," she said, referring to the balloons.   The balloons were red and five in number. Three of them had the words 'Happy birthday best friend' written on them and the remaining two had 'I am sorry' written on them. All in capital letters.   I closed the door on her face, went to my bedroom to grab a pin then opened the door to face her.   I shoved the pi

I needed to apologize for what Lila had done. At least that's what I made myself believe.   I blew out a breath and then knocked. The door opened.    "You?"    He looked confused. Like he didn't expect it to be me. I didn't blame him though. I wouldn't have expected it to be me either.   I flushed.   "Me, "I said   "Oh, hi" he greeted.   I shifted my weight from leg to leg. I didn't know how to start up this particular conversation.   "Is there something you needed?" Etienné asked.   "No. Actually, I came to apologize for what Lila did the……" I trailed off not knowing how to continue.   He seemed relieved. What did he think I came here for?   "No problem," he said with a tight smile.   "You and Lila didn't seem to be on good

These last few weeks have been total hell for me. I lost a friend-we were more than friends-Krystabel. Meredith is pregnant with a baby I'm not ready for. My life just tipped into disaster. I sighed as I sat on a bench kicking stones. I wish everything could be normal, maybe if Krystabel didn't come to Paris…… Who was he kidding? He wouldn't trade meeting Krystabel for anything. His phone buzzed in his pocket. He brought it out and then answered the call. "We need to talk" she spoke over the line and hung up before I replied. I hated that phrase 'we need to talk'. Every time it was used, there was always bad news attached to it. My mum had told me we needed to talk, I found out she had cancer. Meredith had told me she needed to talk, I found out she was pregnant. I stood up from the bench and made my way to Krystabel's apartment. Was she pregnant? Is that why she called? I can't have two ladies with my baby at the same time. That would be….. I quickened my pace and got to her

Guess what? Yes, Lila and I are back together. We made amends over the week. I feel at ease with the St Clair case- mostly because I haven't seen him in a while but whatever. "Ace told me you're leaving," Lila said as she came out of the kitchen with a bowl of cereal in her hands. "I might, I might not. I'm still thinking about it" I responded. "Let me know when you make a decision," she said with a sigh "You don't seem happy about it. You're not going to talk me out of going?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. "My best friend is leaving and I'm supposed to be happy? Well, I'm not. Ace said I shouldn't try to talk you out of it, something about birds and not being meant for their cages" she replied flatly. "He told you that too?" "Did you understand?" Lila asked. I shook my head to say no and we both burst out into laughter. "Why did you start listening to Ace?" She shrugged and ate her cereal. Silence. "What's on your mind, Lila?"I queried when I noticed Lila frowning. "I

Great, just great. You'd be surprised at the things you didn't know. Lila had said that. She knew, she knew that Ace liked me and she kept quiet. Who does that? Was that why she wanted me here? I groaned out in frustration. I hated my life right now. "Are you okay?" Etienné asked, standing in front of me. Why did he have to show up in front of me? "No. People suck. Lila sucks, Ace sucks and most of all, you suck Etienné. You suck more than everybody in this world" I told him, pointing a finger at his chest. Tears were rolling down my cheek. Why was I even crying? "I know "he replied solemnly. Of course, he did. My head felt woozy. I felt like I was being carried away by the wind. I needed to think clearly but here I was, high on alcohol. Alcohol sucks too. I laughed. I was crying and now laughing. I think I'm losing it already. "I'll take you home," Etienné told me as he attempted to get me off the bar stool. I pushed him away from me. "Listen…." I spoke with a slurry
