Prologue
PROLOGUE
The beast was not home so she was able to sneak into the forest to play and sit close to the lake for a while. After a while, she decided to go home because the beast found out that she wasn't home, she was going to be punished. She opened the door and the beast awaited her.
"Where did you go," he asked and I remained silent
"Answer me girl"
"I-I-I---went"
"Stop stammering"
"I went to the lake"
"What did I tell you about going to the lake"
"Nev-er---"
"Don't you dare stammer"
"Never go to the lake"
"So why did you go"
I didn't answer
"Did your mother know"
"No," I said with fear evident in my voice
"Good," he said with a full-blown smirk
"Go to your room" he commanded
"I don't want to go"
"Go or your punishment will be worse"
I entered my room and he locked the door behind me. He removed the belt holding his trousers up. Time for the worst. He unleashed strong strokes on me.
"Jack stop beating my daughter" I heard my mum's voice from the other side of the door
"This is none of your business" the beast yelled
I didn't know what happened next because I blacked out

Great, just great. You'd be surprised at the things you didn't know. Lila had said that. She knew, she knew that Ace liked me and she kept quiet. Who does that? Was that why she wanted me here? I groaned out in frustration. I hated my life right now. "Are you okay?" Etienné asked, standing in front of me. Why did he have to show up in front of me? "No. People suck. Guess what? Yes, Lila and I are back together. We made amends over the week. I feel at ease with the St Clair case- mostly because I haven't seen him in a while but whatever. These last few weeks have been total hell for me. I lost a friend-we were more than friends-Krystabel. Meredith is pregnant with a baby I'm not ready for. My life just tipped into disaster. I sighed as I sat on a bench kicking stones. I wish everything could be normal, maybe if Krystabel didn't come to Paris…… Who was he kidding? He wouldn't trade meeting Krystabel for anything. His phone buzzed in his pocket. He brought it out and then answered the call. "We need to talk" she spoke over the line and hung up before I replied. I hated that phrase 'we need to talk'. Every time it was used, there was always bad news attached to it. My mum had told me we needed to talk, I found out she had cancer. Chapter 32 I closed my laptop and let out a breath. I was done with sorting out work emails for today. My remaining plans for today included sleep and eating junk food. Nothing more.
