A Very Unlucky Night I

SLAP! What a painfully powerful sound caused by a hand striking the skin of a well-sculpted face. Such reverberation sought the focus of everyone in the lobby, for it resounded in an unforgettable echo. Every bit of movement halted, and even the passerbys' outside the condominium's glass walls had to stop for a moment as they find themselves somewhat invested to witness such a scene unfolding. Giselle could feel people's gazes burning on her back. And everyone's eyes peered at the infuriated young man and woman who were in the spotlight of the show. The shocking murmurs of utterly puzzled people erupted simultaneously. There were horrified and surprised gasps of those who knew whom Giselle was opposing upfront. And they realized everything wrong she had done. But it seemed like Giselle had no idea who she was facing. In the sea of people in the condominium's lobby, she allowed herself to be that dense fish, getting caught in one of the dangerous fishing nets. Everyone knows th

A Very Unlucky Night II

Giselle appreciated the silence as they walked side by side. She liked admiring the night view of the place she resided with so much color from the lights decorated on the tree branches. It is unlike most of the roads in this city with street lamps that are barely working. The dimly lit roads make it dangerous for civilians walking back home or even vehicles meeting unfortunate accidents. She believes that this is a problem in the Philippines, and it should seek attention and action no matter how minor it is. Safety should be a priority. But even though she is fortunate enough to live in a heavily guarded community, Giselle knows that she must not take her chances lightly. She would always walk Yvonne to her bus stop after spending time in the cafe together for her safety. Giselle cares that much for her dear friend despite her unending chattery. "Can I sleep over at your place tonight? I do not want to go home to the clutter I created in my room. It's monstrous; it will eat me!"

Elevator Escape

The man held a firm expression even after the aching slap. Giselle's eyes could only widen upon realization. Her heartbeat could reach her ears, counting down the moments after her show of bravery. Her hand trembled on its way down, and she uses it to cover her mouth. Although her hand ached from the impact, she did not react to the pain. She was left stunned by her choice of action. It never occurred to her that she could slap a stranger out of anger. It never occurred she would get physical tonight or ever. She is just not that type of person. All her rationality and calmness to handle the situation vanished into thin air, and she was left shaking with fear. Giselle felt that the pressure from the people staring at them with their reaction was also not helping with the circumstances. Giselle hated that she'd act all tough in the spur of the moment and only retreat after the damage is done. It's one of the bad traits she had that she disliked the most. After trying to avoid the

Disastrous Morning

Giselle gripped the cold bathroom sink tightly, making her knuckles go white. She splashes some water on her face and shivers when she feels the morning breeze blowing in from her opened bathroom window. The tiled floor felt like pins under her feet; she does not understand why the temperature dropped extremely low this morning and worse, she felt dizzy from racking her brain all night. She could feel a migraine coming her way. Despite wanting to get a day off, there was no reason for her to miss school especially when she had such an important test today. Giselle gazes up and looks at herself in the mirror to see her face in complete ruin. She fell asleep with her hair tied into a bun, and now it has become a terrible knot. The dark circles underneath her eyes have gotten even worse. Giselle is as pale as a ghost, and her lips are chapped. Yvonne would go nuts once she sees her best friend’s face looking like this, and she'd blame it all on her late-night studying. Also, Yvonne

Sports Car

What other possible reason could there be for Emesto to randomly appear in front of Giselle's doorstep? One could believe that it could only be a mere coincidence, but the way he dismissed himself looked too suspicious that it was making Giselle uneasy. He seemed to have started covering up the real person he was looking for as soon as he saw Giselle. The look on his face was pure satisfaction. "He found me," Giselle breathes out again, frozen and dazed. Darius must have asked him to look through every door of the condominium for her. But why? Why go through such difficulty for Giselle? She couldn't have left a lasting impression on him as he mentioned that he looks at her. Giselle is also someone not worth chasing. Maybe the video posted online changed his mind about sparing her, and now he's out for blood. Darius has a reputation to keep and that video could have ruined it. Speaking about the video, Giselle has not seen it, nor does she ever want to watch it. She told Yvonne

Asuncion High

Once the shiny red door of the sports car was pushed open and Darius’ presence majestically revealed, the girls from every year level of Asuncion High became enthused. One could hear the heels from their sandals and shoes clicking loudly on the tiled ground as they jumped with excitement and admiration. Giselle does not understand how anyone could admire such a cold-hearted, arrogant man. She is sure that people would have seen his true colors with the video of their encounter. If that video online had only elevated his worth to people, then Giselle can agree that people can be very foolish. Both Yvonne and Giselle stood in front of the main office with walls made out of mirror-like glass. Giselle looks away from the scene unfolding a few distances beside where they stood. She notices the surprise with a hint of fear plastered on both of their faces. She grabs Yvonne’s wrist and pulls her away from the entrance and far from Darius and the crowd. Thankfully, Yvonne willingly went alo

Second Encounter

Three head-pounding examination papers later, it was already half past two. The lounging areas near the cafeteria are slowly becoming packed with students every hour that passes. The morning started with a drizzle of rain and a cold breeze that sent shivers down everyone's spine. And it also enhanced everyone's fears. The weather also sent signals of threat looming by, and that's the sudden occurrence in the lobby. Though some were excited for Darius to be on campus, some students found it annoying. It was an unnecessary disturbance on an early examination morning. Overall, the air that surrounded the school was ominous and exhausting. Nonetheless, the sun still managed to appear and fight away the gloomy clouds in the sky as the day progresses. By noon, it shone its brilliance on the traumatized faces of those students who are either still in their classrooms taking their papers or have finished. Giselle has always been part of those students that finish their papers quickly and c
