Chapter – 31
"What's this place?" Reyna asked as they descended the ancient stone stairs. Her head reeled as its never-ending spiral took them several feet under the ground. "This is a secret chamber that belonged to my ancestors. Only the firstborn of the alphas has ever been here." Reyna coughed, waving her hand in front of her face. Dust and cobwebs surrounded the place. She held him for support to avoid the dusty railings. Their feet made no noise as they continued. Darkness shrouded the place in its thick blanket. "This is where my father, his father, and his forefathers kept note of their life. In their time, wars were waged often." Aluxious stopped when she paused to take a breather. "They often didn't meet their offspring and most of the time died in the war. So they used this place to record their memories and pass their teachings to their younger ones." Reyna covered her nose with her flowing sleeves. "Why are we here?" "The answers to our questi

The shadow hovered above the altar. "I'm not against love. Now don't take me wrong. But who you fall in love with is very important." Aluxious' father sighed. "Falling for a wrong person can destroy everything for you." There was a short pause. The smoke moved again, this time facing away. "The woman, I fell in love with was a Fae. I was only sixteen when I met her in the woods right outside the Selene border. She was exquisite, an exotic beauty with green eyes and long curly hair. But...she was also my enemy." Aluxious's hand tightened around hers. "The fae were treacherous, cunning, and manipulative. I didn't know at that time it was a trap. The beast in me saw an enemy, but the human side saw a wounded and helpless female. I should have left her and gone my way." He exhaled again. "My sixteen-year self was bewitched by her beauty. Her tears forced my feet to move her way." Another chuckle slipped out as if laughing at his own sillin

Reyna contemplated approaching the beast. He now slumped in the center of the room, where once her chair sat. His breath came in short pants mixed with growls and grumbles. The shadow of her father-in-law hovered over the crystal as if he could sense his son’s mood. She then remembered this was an enchanted room and the memory was unlocked by Aluxious’ blood. It must have got something to do with their blood connection. She sauntered toward him and placed a hand on his furry shoulder. Aluxious didn’t move. She knelt beside him only to be scooped in his paws. A sigh slipped out of her when he rested his chin on top of her head. His fur receded into his body leaving him in his human form. A few minutes passed before he growled, “Continue!” The shadow moved again. “I know I committed a grave mistake by allowing her to breath, but never realized I would pay for it dearly.” His features turned grim. “Assassins killed Lucina when you were barely a few month

The evening breeze ruffled with his unruly hair. The fragrance of Yasmin soothed his mind. Oh, how much he missed these evenings in Selene. Most of his warm memories were made in this place, though there was only a handful. Beside him Daryn lay on his back, his arm folded under his head. His feet dangled from the cliff. They were at the Selene peak overlooking the valley. "Alpha, the ministers aren't happy with your choice of mating," Daryn spoke after a while. “I know you don’t care. But you must realize we can’t afford to turn everyone against us.” Aluxious regarded Daryn for a moment. "What about you?" Daryn shook his head. "It's not my place to comment." He sighed, looking at the distant sky. "But since you asked me, I will tell you." He turned to face the alpha. "I'm disappointed." Aluxious lay on his back and stared at the sky. The night sky brought memories of the nights he spent with Reyna in the Barrmount Hills. "Freya and I h

Aluxious pushed the stray tendrils of hair out of Reyna's face. Her luscious lashes shadowed her cheek. As he looked at her, the words she last whispered reverberated in his mind. "She's wrong." What did she mean by that? Did she find something? Daryn had said Freya wasn't the same after her return from the realm of time. What had changed? There were a few things they shouldn't mess with. Magic, especially the darker ones like the elf magic was dangerous. What did Freya bring upon herself? He sensed Daryn approaching his chamber.  "Come in." Daryn stormed in, fury coating his features, but he paused when he saw Reyna. His brows knotted. "Freya is hurt." His frown deepened. "She said that your mate ambushed her." Aluxious laughed with no traces of humor. "Yeah, in the private corridor meant only for the Royals." Daryn averted his gaze. "She lied." The alpha nodded. He still couldn’t fathom the madness he wit

"Look who's back." The mocking voice belonged to her little sister. Well, not exactly a sister by blood, but a sister by sect. In the world of immortals, everyone went by the code. One must never trust the word of the mouth. It never reflected the true intentions of their heart. "We agreed not to mess with the mortals. Yet, you indulged with them from time to time." The goddess ignored her. Her green, long flowy gown swished with her elegant movements. "Sheia is right. You broke our codes today and warned the immortal," her brother, the real brother by blood Eris came to her support. The scar on his left cheek stretched with the smile that didn't reach his eyes. Gaia smiled. "Eris! Long time no see." Her fake enthusiasm earned a scowl from him. "We aren't friends." His muscular arm tightened on the hilt of his sword strapped to his lean hip. "We know that Lycan is special to you. But you broke the code by warning him." The twin

"Didn't expect to find you here. That went really well." Aluxious ignored his best friend's jab and kept walking. "What are you doing here?" Daryn pushed away from the wall he was leaning and followed him. "I came to check on Freya. That was the worst consolation, I've ever heard." "Worst?" Aluxious turned. "How many consolations have you heard before?" Daryn shrugged. "Not much, but it sure didn't sound this bad." Aluxious threaded his hand through his now cropped hair. "What did you want me to tell her?" "You could have just told her the truth." "I told her the truth." Aluxious shrugged. He didn't have to give her the in-depth details. She didn't have to know about the intimate moments he shared with Reyna. Daryn shook his head. "I'm sorry, but you unintentionally gave her hope, my friend." Aluxious frowned. "When did I ever give her hope? I made it clear that we have no future together." "No, you made

Aluxious tapped his fingers on the handle of his throne. With a leg thrown over another handle, he slumped as if he had no care in the world. The announcement had stirred the pot as he expected. His ministers debated for the past half hour listing why Reyna cannot be their queen. They even went as far as to call his unborn child an abomination. His beast wanted to tear their throats apart, but he held the leash tighter. He couldn’t afford to lose control. The situation was critical. With the war looming over their heads he had to handle this carefully. “We know what the ancient law states, but it doesn’t protect a vampire,” Uren––the ever-growing pain in his ass––stated. “I don’t know if the alpha cares, but the women in our kingdom stopped going into heat long ago. A few she-wolves that used herbs to induce heat, miscarried, or delivered a dead child.” Another minister, Talon stepped forward. “Alpha, no one has ever mated with a vampire before. Ever

Reyna closed the door behind her. Their bedroom chamber was still the same, minus Freya’s scent. Initially, she wanted to tear the lycan limb to limb just for being inside the room. A deep breath relieved the tension in her lungs. But that didn’t lift the weight from her heart. It had been a while since she spoke to her mother. The last time she said her father went berserk. Aluxious’ word replayed in her mind. If the vampire and elven kingdoms waged war at once, the lycans stood no chance of victory. She headed to the open balcony. In the distance, she saw the lycans running here and there. The sounds from the village echoed in the air. Growls reverberated in the air. The ripe scent of the females teased her nostrils. She could only imagine the state of the unmated males. On her way, she heard someone mentioning that this was the first time so many females going into heat. Her fingers tapped at the railing. The restlessness inside her heart kept grow

The fall never came. Because the old bat, she called father caught her before she touched the ground. “You thought you could take me down?” His feet touched the ground. She crashed into the snow again, but didn’t respond. What the hell was wrong with her? She stared at her hands. Her claws had disappeared. A frown marred her features. Oh, Gaia! What sick game is this? She staggered to her feet and turned to stare at her father. He paced the ground like a predator. His eyes stalking her every move. She spat blood and stared him dead in the eye. Time to drop the act. Reyna let her shoulders slump and let the tears fall. “No matter what I do, you won’t accept me.” She shook her head. The monster in front of her halted in its track. He blinked tilting his head. “It was always Killian,” she wheezed, brushing away the blood from her face. Her tears mixed with blood. She ignored the slight burn caused by her busted lip. “In your eye
