REGRET UNTIL SHE SAYS GOODBYE のすべてのチャプター: チャプター 131 - チャプター 140

THIRD PERSON’S POV The elevator hummed softly as it descended. The lights flicked over the numbers one after the other steadily.Derek's gaze roved over it briefly and then he readjusted the coat he had draped over his arms. The elevator bell rang a couple of seconds later, signalling that he had arrived at the lobby and when the doors opened, Derek got off and walked out, stepping into the dim lights of the underground parking lot.It was silent and the cars there were sparse. He was reaching into his pocket for his keys when a sound reached him, like the shuffle of a foot. When Derek reached his car, it was to see a woman standing there, leaning casually next to his car with a smile that was too bright for the hour."Derek," Alyssa called sweetly, taking a few steps closer to him."Alyssa," Derek called in return but her name off his lips sounded more like a sigh than a greeting."Finally," Alyssa said when he stood two feet away from her. She lifted a hand and brushed her fingers

THIRD PERSON'S POVDanielle chewed absentmindedly on her lower lips, stacking up her dolls on the couch. She'd been playing all by herself all day and was gradually beginning to lose interest in playing house when she heard the front door open. She paused and lifted her head, glancing towards the doorway to see who was making their way in when her whole face suddenly lit up.A wide smile bloomed on her face and she threw the doll in her hand on the couch and ran forward, yelling, "Mommy!""I missed you so much!" She launched herself into Sara's arms, hugging mommy tightly. She missed her so much and she was just grumbling to Mrs Rodriguez about how both of her parents never seemed to be home anymore.Sara glanced down at her daughter who was holding tightly onto her and let out a soft sigh. She hadn't debated her decision to come here earlier and had just acted on impulse but now that she was here, she was glad she did.She didn't think Danielle would be so excited to see her and the

SARA'S POVMy heart gave an odd leap in my chest as I stared at my computer screen. An incredulous look was etched on my face and my jaw was slackened in total disbelief. It was right in front of me, but I couldn't bring myself to believe it. The universe hadn't just heard my prayers, it had thrown a wild stroke of luck my way.Just last night, I'd had a talk with Danielle about my impending absence at her birthday and although Danielle had accepted it, which was quite surprising in itself, I still felt bad about my supposed subsequent action. In recent days, I noticed that she had changed a whole lot. She was more understanding of me and Alyssa seemed to be out of the picture, albeit not completely but Danielle had stopped asking of her and she had stopped taking preeminence in my daughter's life. All of these, consolidated together, made my guilt swell. However, all my problems had been solved and the mail that had turned out to be the solution was staring right at me, open on my sc

THIRD PERSON’S POVDanielle’s face lit up like stars in the night skies after mommy’s words. Mommy had shown up at her school earlier today, surprising her then took her out to get some ice cream. After getting scolded by Mrs Williams for not doing her homework properly, Danielle’s mood that had plummeted lifted and even though mommy had said she wouldn’t be staying the night like she thought she would, she was still happy.“Mommy, are you really going to be there? You aren’t traveling again? Did Uncle Alaric give you a break?” She fired a barrage of questions at mommy, unable to contain herself.A soft smile crossed Sara’s lips upon witnessing Danielle’s excitement. She didn’t expect her to be so happy, afterall, she always thought Daneille didn’t appreciate her efforts on previous birthdays she’d celebrated.Something told her Daneille really hadn’t but the change she had gone through these past few weeks had tweaked that mindset and caused her to begin to appreciate even the littl

SARA’S POVToday, I woke up really early. It was my day off from work but I had already made a list of things I planned to do today. When I woke up, I skimmed through my list again, verifying everything I had written down and reminded myself to get it for Danielle’s birthday.None of the things on my list were extravagant or expensive and were the right fit for a five year old turning six. However, there were more switches from last year and my focus this year wasn’t on what or how I wanted her birthday to look like, but how Daneille had mentioned to me she wanted it to be.There would be decorations, ribbons, a princessy dress and a matching cake and many other things she’d suggested.Somehow, it felt good to focus on just one thing, something simple that didn’t evoke complicated feelings within me and most certainly didn’t seem heavy or complicated or tied to the house I left behind. It was simply a usual practice, a yearly ritual I performed on my daughters behalf, one I hoped I wo
