REGRET UNTIL SHE SAYS GOODBYE のすべてのチャプター: チャプター 121 - チャプター 130

THIRD PERSON'S POVDerek's hand rested loosely in his pocket while he stood by the doorway, gaze scanning the room quickly. His eyes drifted to Sara first. She sat by Danielle's desk, in a little chair meant for kids. It would have made for a comical sight were it to be someone else seeing this but Derek wasn't amused.Sara has her head buried in concentration and she pursed her lips, as if what she was working on was a thesis paper and not a kindergarten project. He stared for a minute then averted his gaze to another corner of the room where his eyes landed on Alaric. They narrowed a bit in surprise. He wasn't expecting to see him here. Although he'd heard Danielle mention a child once, he could faintly recollect Danielle saying her name was Clara and that she was Alaric's niece who schooled here too but he didn't think Alaric would be the one to show up today as well. His eyes flickered as he watched him say something to his niece who laughed merrily then called sweetly to Sara acr

SARA'S POVThe crayons were scattered across the little wooden table, a mix of color that made Danielle’s eyes shine with joy.I sat beside her with the sleeves of my blouse rolled up to my elbow, quietly getting overwhelmed by everything happening around me.At first, I thought it was nostalgic but now, not so much. Derek's presence beside me had erased every positive feeling I had about today and now, I felt stifled.I had thought he wouldn't show up, I expected him not to, so seeing him standing in the doorway to Danielle's classroom was still a surprise even though he'd told me over the phone that he would come.Danielle grinned proudly, grabbing my attention as she tapped her crayon on the illustration board before her. Her voice rose a notch higher, "Mommy, you draw this part, I'll draw this one."She paused for a second as if contemplating then glanced at Derek, "Daddy, you draw this one."I smiled, a tug of my lips that didn't feel genuine and muttered, "What part am I drawing

THIRD PERSON'S POVThe drive home was silent.Danielle had fallen asleep, leaving Derek with a quiet that wouldn't have been possible if she was awake and still chattering. After they parted ways with Data, Danielle had fired a barrage of questions at him when they returned to the car, asking why Mommy was still so busy, why she wouldn't come home with them and if he had done something to annoy her.Derek couldn't think of anything he could have done to make Sara mad. They had barely even spoken while they were at Danielle's school and she had seemed more interested in talking to Alaric than talking to him.She had even hugged him...He paused on that thought then exhaled loudly. He hadn't meant to intervene earlier, when Danielle had asked to go with Sara, it just slipped out before he could stop himself. He'd eventually ended up being the one to pacify Danielle, telling her that Sara had something important to do at the office.Danielle's response to that was, "Mommy, can't you do i

SARA'S POVMy question hung in the air and I almost forgot to snap my jaws that had dropped in disbelief back into place.Seeing my look of astonishment, Alaric smiled, as though he had expected it. His calm was a very huge contrast to my shaken up expression and his assuredness was also very different from my disbelief. My lips parted but I only let out a wisp of air and when I finally could get my words out, all I said was..."I'm honoured."At that moment, that was exactly how I felt, honoured.Surely, there were other employees in the company that had worked for much longer than I had, had more accolades to their name and even better work experience and Adrian was a well known man in the industry, who, no doubt, had worked with a lot of people. So, to have him consider me out of all of those people was an immense privilege. As though he had read my thoughts, Alaric said, "You have earned this solely by your own capabilities. We chose you because we know you can handle it."Adrian l

THIRD PERSON'S POVDerek sat in the stillness of his office, holding a buzzing phone to his ears. The faint sound of breathing came from the other end too and his lips pursed. He didn't know why he had called and Sara's silent wait on the other end was an indication that she didn't know why he had called as well.Earlier, he'd moved like someone possessed and reached for his phone to dial her number, only pausing after he did to consider what he wanted to say. There were so many issues he'd shelved aside to discuss with her but his mind numbed when the time for it actually came. So, he let the slow, deep, drag of air continue until Sara's voice came through the receiver a second time, "Hello?"Derek's lips flattened but he still didn't say anything and just pulled the phone off his ear and clicked a button to end the call. The confusion in Sara's voice right before he ended it was evident and he had to admit that he was just as perplexed by his silence as she was. After the call ended
