Would I soon wake up in the car, on the way home from campus, and all of this was just a daydream?I glanced at the fireplace.Inside the blazing fire, several pieces of paper were still burning. The marriage contract papers. The paper that had been my prison for this past year, the paper that bound us, restricted us, and at the same time brought us together.A few small pieces of that paper flew through the air, falling into my lap, onto my face. I didn't brush them off. I just stared at them, seeing the burnt edges of the paper, seeing the writing that was beginning to fade, eaten by the fire.
