When Silence Met Fire의 모든 챕터: 챕터 11 - 챕터 20

Maya walked into the dining hall Friday afternoon and found Idris already at their table. Two trays. Two coffees. His usual smile. “You’re early,” she said, sitting down. “You’re late.” “Three minutes.” “I counted.” He pushed a tray toward her. “Got your usual.” Maya looked at the sandwich. The chips. The apple. Exactly what she always got. “You’re very consistent,” she said. “I’m very observant. There’s a difference.” She laughed. “Is there?” “Absolutely. Consistency is boring. Observant means I pay attention to what matters.” He met her eyes. “You matter.” Maya’s cheeks warmed. She looked down at her sandwich. “You’re doing it again,” she said. “Doing what?” “Saying things that make it hard to look at you.” “Good.” He grinned. “That means I’m doing it right.” They ate in comfortable silence for a few minutes. Around them, the dining hall buzzed with Friday energy—students laughing, trays clattering, the week finally ending. “So,” Idris said eventua

Maya's pen moved steadily across the page. Calculus problem seven. Almost there. The library was quiet. Third floor. Back corner. Wall behind her. Full view of the entrance. Same spot she always chose. Someone slid into the chair across from her. She looked up. Idris. He had a book. A notebook. A pen. Already opening to a marked page. Maya waited for an explanation. None came. He just started reading. --- Five minutes passed. Maya returned to her problem. Finished it. Started the next one. Idris turned a page. Scribbled a note. Turned another. The silence wasn't uncomfortable. Just... present. At 8:30, Maya's stomach growled. Loud. Idris looked up. "Was that you?" "No." "The building settling?" "Exactly." He almost smiled. "There's a vending machine by the stairs." "I know." "You should use it." "I will. Eventually." He nodded. Returned to his book. --- At 9, Maya closed her textbook. "I'm taking a break." He looked up. "Vendin

Maya walked across campus Tuesday afternoon with no destination in mind. Classes were done. Homework could wait. The air was warm. Students lounged on the quad, soaking up the last of the daylight. Her phone buzzed. You on campus? — Idris She stopped walking. Why? Come to the architecture building. First floor. By the main stairs. She stared at the screen. Now? If you're free. She was free. She hadn't planned to be, but she was. Five minutes. --- The architecture building lobby was quiet. Maya pushed through the main doors and looked around. No sign of him. Then she spotted him standing in front of a glass display case near the stairs. Hands in his pockets. Staring at something inside. She walked over. "You summoned me." He turned. Smiled. Small. Real. "Thanks for coming." "You said first floor. I'm here." He gestured at the case. "Look." Maya looked. Inside were photos. Awards. A trophy. A younger version of Idris, holding that trophy, grin

Maya woke to gray light and an empty room. Jess had class. Her side of the room was already made, sheets tucked tight, pillow fluffed. The kind of neat that meant she'd been up for hours. Maya reached for her phone. 9:47 AM. No messages. --- She lay there for twenty minutes, staring at the ceiling. Her mind kept circling back to yesterday. Idris's face across the library table. The way his jaw tightened when his phone buzzed. The flatness in his voice when he said tomorrow's going to be ugly. She sat up. Grabbed her phone. Typed: Thinking of you. Hope it's okay. Deleted it. Typed: Let me know when you're done. Deleted it. Typed: I'm here. Sent it. --- At 11, she went to the dining hall alone. Sat at a table near the window. Picked at a sandwich she didn't want. Her phone stayed dark. At 11:45, she walked to the library. Found a carrel on the second floor. Pulled out her textbook. Read the same paragraph four times. At 1:30, she gave up and wal

Maya arrived at the library at 6:50. Idris was already there. Same corner. Same table. Two cups of coffee. He looked up when she sat down. Pushed a cup toward her. "You're early." "You're earlier." "I've been here since 6." He shrugged. "Couldn't focus in the studio." "Still having trouble?" "Always." He opened his textbook. "But it's better here." --- They studied for an hour. Or pretended to. Maya read the same page three times. Idris sketched something in his notebook that wasn't related to architecture. At 8, he closed his book. "I need air." "Now?" "There's somewhere I want to show you." He stood. "If you're done pretending to read that page." She looked down. He was right. She hadn't turned it once. "Fine." --- He led her out of the library, across the quad, toward the architecture building. The building was quiet at this hour. A few lights on upper floors. Empty hallways. They took the stairs to the top floor. Then another set she hadn't
