CHAPTER 31: Yesterday was a mistake.

{ Elena's POV } Rays of the morning sun hit my eyes, making me draw open my heavy eyes. I stretched my hands to feel the bed but it was empty. He was gone already. My eyes shot clearly open, blinking, I sat upright. “Yikes,” I muttered, recalling all of yesterday's events, “what have I done.” I had let him come too close, way too close and I'm so scared because I can't deny I liked the feeling of being in his warm arms. Every bit of it. I glanced over at the clock on the side table; 9:15AM—oh shit, I never woke up this late. I was about jumping out of the bed when I noticed a white piece of paper close to the table clock on the side table. I already knew who it was from so I reached for it and opened it. You look adorable when you sleep, Ma Lune—N. The Note read. ‘Ma Lune?’ I muttered, a smile forming on my lips. The name kind of felt special and I don't know why. I collapsed back on the headrest, “No,” I muttered, gripping my hair with my right hand, “I can't allow this. Not

CHAPTER 32: Not Happening.

[Nicholas's POV] She said it was a mistake. I let her believe I agreed.Elena Rivers doesn't yet understand the kind of man she fell for—there's absolutely no going back, Ma Lune.Never. Ever. Not when I'm this obsessed. Not when her pretty smiles haunt me in my dreams every night. Not when thoughts of me claiming invade my mind even at the most inconvenient times. Not when I've made her my top priority—even over my vengeance. She let me in, and now she wants to push me away. Not happening. Kyle had not said a single word since we left the apartment, and that was somehow worse than if he had. He'd been so close to marking her last night. My hands clenched around the steering wheel as memories of yesterday night flooded my thoughts. My legs stamped on the accelerator as I watched her calm expression from the rearview mirror—too calm for someone who's messing with my feelings. The Mustang was practically flying down the road. “Hey bro, slow down.” Ambrose said, gripping the da

CHAPTER 33: How Dare You.

{ Elena's POV } No. Oh my goodness, no. The menacing look on the man's face wasn't what was scaring me—it was the fact that Nicholas was badly injured and the effect of the silver was spreading fast; he was getting weaker every minute. We need to get him to a doctor as soon as possible or else… I don't even want to imagine it. I glanced at the men circling closer and then at Nicholas groaning in pain on the floor. I placed my hand on his shoulder, my other hand reaching for his back, “Hang a little bit; I need to take out the blades.“It's going to hurt, but I'll be quick.”“Just take it out already.” Nicholas said through clenched teeth. I rolled my eyes at him and slowly pulled out one of the blades, Nicholas groaned as I did so. “I'm sorry.” I muttered. “Take the second one out.”I did exactly as he said and pulled the second blade, earning a loud groan from him. Blood gushed out from the cuts—they were really deep. “We need to get you out of here, you're losing too much bl

Chapter 34: Ain't making mistakes no more

(Elena's POV) Ambrose and I carried Nicholas back to the car and drove fast to the nearest lodge we could find. Unlike the human world, we don't have hospitals you can rush to during an emergency; instead, each pack has a doctor, and we were too far from home. After paying for the room to the receptionist, Ambrose and I carried Nicholas up the stairs to the room. “Easy.” I muttered as we dropped him on the bed. Nicholas was already too weak to speak; he was silent all through the way here. Ambrose was already panting. “Is he made from steel? He's so heavy,” he said, rolling his shoulders. I ignored him and gently removed Nicholas' jacket and shirt, which were already drenched with his blood. He winced in pain, “The wounds are too deep. We need a doctor.” I turned to face Ambrose. “But we can't find one, so we'll go for the alternative.” Ambrose said, already thinking. “What alternative?” I asked, confused. “You, some warm water, and yarrow and Echinacea leaves—I can spot some

CHAPTER 35: Kiss me.

{Nicholas POV} “You pulled back from our mate. Again.” Kyle growled. “I know what I'm doing.” I shot back at him, my voice cold as I lay back on the bed. “Do you?” he said quietly. “She's not ready yet, so be tame wolfie.” I shut him out. That earned a snarl from him as he trudged in. I was not going to let Kyle make me act like a lovesick puppy. Never. Instead I'm going to make her want me, long for me, see me as the only man capable of loving her. I don't give a damn if the mate bond takes years to snap into place. She's mine. Mate bond or not. ********“Coffee?” Elena asked in a guarded tone, stretching the paper cup towards me as approached the arm chair across from where she sat with a coffee cup in hand. “Sure.” I said, my fingers intentionally grazing hers as I took the cup from her. She immediately jerked her hand away. I smiled inside me as I sat on the arm chair, taking a sip of my coffee. The torture just began, baby. “You should get dressed. We'll be heading bac

CHAPTER 36: Where were you

{ Elena's POV } Kiss him! He actually said that.I managed to laugh despite the way my heart flipped hard and breathing came out rather faster than usual. Because what else do you do when Nicholas Hale looks at you like that and says kiss me like he's asking for directions. After what happened last night. “You're out of your damn mind.”"Am I?" he whispered, leaning in closer as his hand tilted my chin up. I could feel the warmth of his breath on my lips. A smirk formed on his lips. “Answer me, Elena.”His face hovered over mine and I couldn't stop my eyes from falling on his lips—they were rough and sexy and I could not help but imagine how they will feel like on mine. My hand had found his shirt without my permission. Just the fabric. Just to steady myself.Goddess. What's wrong with me! Why do I want to kiss him so bad. The car's horn blarred suddenly, snapping me out my trance. Nicholas cursed under his breath. I jerked away from him. Ambrose was such a dick. “I had to rin

CHAPTER 37: Father Knows.

{ Elena's POV } I froze on the spot. My breath caught. What was I supposed to tell him? That I was out all night nursing an injured Nicholas to health? He doesn't even know who he really is or what we've been doing together. Dad would give me the scolding of my life if I told him Ambrose and I together with a stranger got involved in a fight that has nothing to do with our pack. And I never lied to my father. Dad's voice came quiet and even. "I asked a question.”I blinked my eyes rapidly, an awkward smile forming on my lips as I came down from the stairs. “I… Uhmm….”Oh this stupid brain of mine. Think of something fast. “I–I had to attend to something really urgent.” I quipped. “Personal issues.”Dad raised his brow, giving me that I know you're lying kind of look. “Follow me to my office,” he said, already leading the way. I swallowed hard. “Yes sir.”I'm in deep shit—that I know for sure. I dropped my head low and followed him. We passed through the main corridor, everyo

CHAPTER 38: The Black Daggers.

{ Nicholas POV } “I don't understand, what are you trying to say?” she said, her voice breaking as she stepped away. My hand dropped down to my side. “Trust me, it's nothing you need to worry too much about.”She let out a small laugh. “Trust you? You're fucking keeping things away from me! And still have the guts to tell me I'll be angry when I find out? Who the hell are you!? “Elena—”I reached for her arm but she stepped back.“We're supposed to be a fucking team!” The crack in her voice made something move through my chest. I had known from the beginning that keeping my real identity from her was a calculated risk. Back then she was just a mission—a complication with a mate bond attached. But somewhere between watching her cry in that garden and taking three silver blades without thinking twice, the calculation stopped being a calculation. She was not a complication anymore. I was not even sure what she was, only that my mission had rearranged itself around her without asking

CHAPTER 39: Tell Me To Go Away

{ Elena's POV } The last three days have been the driest time of my entire life. I sat, legs crossed on my bed, my chin resting on my palm. Three days. No text. No call. No note. No explanation. Nothing. I haven't heard a single thing from Nicholas Hale—or so he calls himself. How am I even sure that's his real name? I just felt like I don't even know shit about him and he knows more about me than I do. I felt cheated. I ran my free hand into my hair. Maybe I was overreacting. He had done his homework and I had not bothered to do the same. I had just believed him.Idiot. Now I feel stupid for liking him and fantasizing about him. And maybe for trusting him. Now it's feeling like a betrayal or maybe not. Gosh. I'm still overreacting. I pressed my palms flat against my eyes. Idiot. I let out a low groan and dragged myself out of bed, changed into something more presentable—being on my pajamas since morning and it's already 1pm.“Come down, we need to talk.” Ambrose’s voice

CHAPTER 40: Kiss Me senseless.

{ Elena's POV }The kiss wasn’t soft.It felt like three days of silence and every unsaid longing hitting me at once. His mouth was hot and rough. One hand stayed beside my head while the other gripped my waist so tight I could feel it through my trousers. A low growl vibrated through his chest and went straight down my spine.I should have pushed him away. Stopped this madness. Instead my fingers twisted in his shirt and pulled him closer. He kissed me deeper, using his body to tilt my head back. When his tongue flicked against mine, a small soft moan came out of me before I could stop it. He answered with another growl and bit my lower lip—not hard enough to draw blood, just enough to sting and send heat curling low in my stomach. His scent hit me. Cedar and warm sandalwood that made my skin tingle. He removed his mouth from my lips and dragged his nose down along my throat, breathing me in like his life depended on it, then bit down just under my ear. The sharp feeling made my kne
