When I woke up, I was staring at the same familiar ceiling. The smell of disinfectant was still sharp. "You're finally awake." I heard a cool, hoarse voice beside me. I turned my head and saw Chloe sitting by my bed. She had lost a lot of weight, and there were dark circles under her eyes, but her eyes were brighter than ever. "I'm still alive?" Chloe nodded and handed me a cup of warm water. "Yes. The doctor said you were lucky. You only broke a few ribs and had a mild concussion. You'll be fine after a few months of rest." I took a sip of water to soothe my dry throat. "Where's Samantha?" Chloe answered calmly, "She's been charged with attempted murder. With all the other crimes the Baileys committed, she'll probably spend the rest of her life in prison." I looked at Chloe with mixed feelings. "You..." She raised an eyebrow. "What?""Why did you stay with me?" She could have taken the money I'd given her, left with her family, and started a new life while I was unconscious
